Hello all :)

A few members of my normal PnP group are going away for the holidays so our GM has decided to run a short-level-1-wizards-written adventure with the idea that we make quirky characters.

So I made a Kobold Druid specialising in tracking called Tom-Tom...
He's going to make most use of his summoning spells for flavour, but I also want him to have some Trained animals along with him. I already have in mind a Hawk called KPS (Kobold Positioning System) and a Guard Dog, but when it comes to a Guard Dog I'm not too sure on how I would write up the stats? Yes it's a Dog for all intensive purposes, but it's also 'trained for war' since its Tricks are attack based, so would it have the stats for a Riding Dog (already have one as my animal companion) or for a regular dog?

Also is there anything anyone would suggest for either now or later on? I guess my Kobold is more of a zoo keeper than a Druid.

Thanks in advance :)

This category includes working breeds such as collies, huskies, and St. Bernards.
Carrying Capacity: A light load for a riding dog is up to 100 pounds; a medium load, 101–200 pounds; and a heavy load, 201–300 pounds. A riding dog can drag 1,500 pounds.
Combat
If trained for war, these animals can make trip attacks just as wolves do (see the Wolf entry). A riding dog can fight while carrying a rider, but the rider cannot also attack unless he or she succeeds on a Ride check.

Yes but I'm not having a Riding Dog other than my animal companion, I'm having a Guard Dog that isn't trained to carry anyone. A Guard Dog itself is mentioned in the SRD (above riding dog iirc) but it does not give stats for it, so I wondered if it used the riding dog stats or the normal dog stats.

I'd ask your DM. If I were your DM, however, I'd use the riding dog stats.

That would seem reasonable, I had one dm that used the regular domestic dog stats. Not worth the money, Until the druid awakened it and it became a monk dog.

Oh you've just given me a nice idea :D
However I think I'll ask the DM for the Riding Dog stats just without the ability to trip, since for 25g I could buy 3 with my starting gold and that would be a bit silly. I'd be running around naked with no weapon but nothing would be standing up long enough to bother me anyway.

Remember, though you may be a Kobold, you're still a Druid and you don't really NEED a weapon. You are a weapon, and one from level 1, unlike a Wizzard.

Not in my copy of the SRD

Try looking at other places than the Riding Dog entry and you might see it in "your" SRD. It's under Goods and Services in the Mounts and Related Gear table. It gives the prices for a Guard Dog but no other information, which is why I was asking in the first place. I wasn't asking for a smart-ass reply assuming that I can't read.

Not with 8 Strength I'm not. I only have my animal companion, summoned monsters and these bought trained animals at my disposal. Unfortunately Druids don't get many spells at level 1.
