Hey...
Starting play with a new group next week, and im trying to make my character my own. There are some places where id like to reduce my attratubes below 8.
Using the point buy method in the book (I think 22 points) do i get any points back for going below 8 points in an attribute

Or lowering a second attribute from 10 to 9 or 8?

You can't uber-dump stats anymore. You get five 10s, and one 8, and you can't lower them to get extra points.

Actually you can lower one other stat to 8 for an additional 2 points

Really?

Cool

I want to play an adolescent in an up coming game ( i feel i can do the job with out descending in to silliness ((yes, given my behavior i know that may be hard to believe)))

Alternative to the 22-point buy in the PHB is the 32-point buy. All your stats start out @ 8 instead of 5 10's then an 8, then you invest as normal using the tables. You still have to pull a stat up to 10 to get it any higher though.

The 32 point buy system is a bit simpler than lowering stats to get more points, but it achieves the same thing. Alternately, your DM could make a houserule that allows you to lower stats below 8, granting howevermany points (likely 1 for each step below 8, or perhaps 1 for every 2 steps).

True,

But the GM has insisted on 22 points, so i would need to find a way to do it with in that

Maybe not by the RAW, but it's your game; you can do what you like in it (contingent on DM approval).

I'd suggest that you just recycle the point buy table from 3E if you want to dump stats deep into the single figures.

Remember, though - using 3.x point buy system means you end up with higher stats than with standard 4e point buy.
