Hi, I didnt see a thread for this yet so I thought I would ask: WHat was your favorite gift you received over the Holidays? (If you dont celebrate, then what was your favorite gift ever?)

This Christmas I have a toss up between 3: The Dark Knight dvd, Suns/Cav's Tickets, and an 8 gig iPod that doesnt work on my pc cause I dont have windows xp or vista:smallannoyed:

Well, I didn't get a Dark Knight DVD for Christmas, I got it the week before. :smalltongue: What I did get was a Gotham Knight DVD. :smalltongue:

My favorite gift though was probably the Ice Cream machine (the cool gigantic ones that require actual ice, not the mini ones with coolant) and accompanying Ice Cream recipe book. Mmmmmm. Homemade Ice Cream, and you can't have any. :smallamused:

EDIT: Waaaaaaaaaait, it was a month ago, I should really start to pay atention to dates.

EDIT2:@V: I'll answer you like this because I'm enjoyin the simetry of our posts. Yeah, it's an awesome movie!

I was just thinking, You know that the Dark Knight was a good movie when It actually competes for top present with things like ipods and every other gift you receive....

As good as TDK is, it can never compare with an Ice Cream Machine! Never! Or, even better, eat your homemade Ice Cream, while watching TDK. :smalltongue:

Probably a book:

George Selgin's "Good Money: Birmingham Buttonmakers, the Royal Mint, and the Beginnings of Modern Coinage, 1775-1821"

It's about how Gresham's Law (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gresham%27s_Law) doesn't apply when people have the choice of which means of exchange to use and... No, it's really good. It has all these great anecdotes about just what sneaky, skullduggerous rogues the great figures of the Industrial Revolution actually were...

Shut up! Don't judge me! :smallfurious:

(I'm also happily humming at WallE on DVD  )

Holy cow Oregano:smalltongue:, that's enormous!:smallwink:

Probably my favorite gift was a copy of The King of Things and the Cranberry Clown by John Callahan, which is a much deeper book than it appears to be on the surface. My GF found a copy online which was as good as new (it's been out of print for ages)! That and my new 16gb iPod (which I can't use because I need to update iTunes to v8.0:smallyuk:)

Either the Necronomicon (collection of some Lovecraft stories) or Spore. Can't get the latter to work though, unfortunately.

I can't decide whether I like my $20 Target gift card, or the normal $20 bill I got.

Definitely the gift card.

Bah, Lovecraft wins either way, Troll.:smalltongue:

If you're into him, this (http://www.loa.org/volume.jsp?RequestID=223) was a fantastic buy for me. I got it at Borders.

Oooo...Just looked up what Necronomicon you were talking about, and nevermind, that's probably got more in it than mine, though mine is probably a bit less cumbersome for travel purposes... :/

My favorite gift this christmas was a new tv (it cost about 4000Sek (Sek means swedish coins(i think 1$ is about 10Sek)))

but i also likes the movies i got, i got 17 different horror movies.

(12 of the horror movies was bought in something called a bodybag so i think it didnt cost close to as much as it would if they bought them one at a time).

Spore. It is so amazing. The reviews didn't really do the game justice; it just gets better as you go on.

My new digital camera.

The old one sucked (it had a broken switch on top of the fact that it's older than I am), and this one's beautiful.

I also liked that I got Juno on DVD, $30 cash, and a $25 Barnes & Noble gift card.

And then my brother got Dark Knight on DVD. :smalltongue:

My favorite present is probably the new camera (which I got to choose myself today), but there's nothing wrong with the others, either, such as the Forgotten Realms Player's Guide, Dungeon Master's Guide, and Night of the Dragon.

Twelve-pack of Mini-Cons. I love those wacky Mini-Cons, with their crazy over- or under-sized feet, balance issues, and tiny tiny articulation.

All the Lego was nice, too. But it's not Mini-Cons.

It's a Transformer. A midget one (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Mini-Con). In this case, specifically these li'l' dudes (http://www.hasbro.com/transformers/universe/default.cfm?page=News/Item&newsID=958387D0-D56F-E112-4A37D17798536AB0).

Two days with the one I love. Best gift ever.QFT - Only the one I love is much more different then the one Cassie loves. :smallwink:

That aside, I'd have to say for material things, it would be the wooden ornament my uncle made for me. Hand carved, and made out Jerusalem Olive - which is quite the thing since the Olive is from trees that aren't cut down for their wood. The way they obtain the wood is by picking up branches that fall off the tree. So the fact he went through a very eco-green friendly way to make the ornament = epic win in my book for a gift.

I think the gift that's going to see the most post-Christmas use is going to be the toasted sandwich maker my cousin got me. I love toasted sandwiches, but not quite enough to buy my own device for making them.

My favorite gift would probably be my hat, proudly featured in the you thread on the head of yours truly. It's supposedly a fedora, but I think of it as more of some sort of mentally disabled lovechild between a fedora and a bowler hat. Ah, a doomed love if ever there was one...

I love my hat.

Also, I got my old headphones fixed. Yay! It wasn't really a Christmas gift, but it was around Christmas, and someone else paid for it, so I count it as one. And they're great (still)!

However, I consider Persona 4 (which I bought 5 days earlier) to be an adequate gift.

I got Dark Knight as well.
But my best gift was from my Mom, she etched the names of the Characters from my D&D game at school onto a set of mugs. It was incredibly sweet.

My parents gave me three Cohiba cigars and a check for $250 with an order to not spend it on anything practical. I've already smoked two of the cigars and they're possibly the best I've ever tasted. And the money's going to take my Eldar 40k army from cool to aaaaaaaaaaawesome!!!

Oh, it's also gonna get me Fallout 3 ...

My aunt got me a necklace that reads "Not all who wander are lost", which also was awesome because it wasn't one of those 'I need to get a gift for X' presents, but just something she saw and felt compelled to get for me.

That and the digital camera my parents got me. Was perfect for recording my christmas-mohawk.

I got a cute cow soft toy. It is not much special in itself but I got it from someone very dear to me. A female long time friend who lives far away and I didn't expect anything from her (nor did I remember to send her anything. :( ). When I got that and the card that game with it... It really made my Christmas.

Beat that.

I'm not sure if it's my *favorite*, but it's definitely the most noteworthy:

I was talking to Llama a while back about Zelda games (a shared passtime) - specifically that I'd played Link's Awakening (first Zelda on the original b/w GameBoy) back when i was in junior high and got stumped at the end of the second-to-last (i think) dungeon and was wondering if i'd be able to get through it now...

...So he took this somewhat off-hand comment and for christmas he got me an old, used b/w GameBoy along with the game so now I can try it again...

So far, i've conquered 3 dungeons. I'm on my way...

Just another reason why our resident Llama is a great guy.

While I got some cool swag this year I'd say the best was the look on my mom's face when she got her present. Made me feel all warm, happy, and tingly inside and still does when I think on it.
