View Full Version : Computer Fail: Videos Don't Work

My computer has...stopped playing video. It's quite annoying, actually.

This means internet video type things. The way in which it doesn't work varies by site. For example:

Zero Punctuation (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation) videos load all the way, and play, but have no sound.

YouTube has no sound and stops playing at 2 seconds, but the bar loads the rest of the way.

Videos tend to switch between one of these two.

Any advice for how to fix this? I'm guessing that it is a problem with my settings, but it could be a virus of some kind.

remove all cookies and temp files and what not. If it still doesn't work, try a different browser.

What browser are you using and did videos work before?

Clear the cache. It usually works with, well, most things.

I use Firefox and always have. They've worked fine until recently. Let me try some of those...

This happens to me infrequently. Restarting has always worked for me, if you haven't tried it already.

As the previous posters have written, clearing the cache is probably your best bet. You'd be surprised how much junk you can have in your temp folder, some of which can be pretty nasty.

Success! I cleared the cache and the cookies, and it fixed it. Had to re-log into a few websites, but it worked. Thanks for the help!

This happens to me every now and then. Like in your situation, the Youtube videos stop after 2 seconds and there is no sound in those 2 seconds.
I just restart my computer. It usually fixes it, for a long while at least.
