. . .this (http://www.chrisdaneowens.com/video/Shine_large.html). You may already be familiar with it, but it covers every base for the things you'd want to do in a campaign.

I think maybe it's too epic.

I'd have to say that my favorite part is where that swashbuckler-guy swings his sword and the ship explodes. I want a character that can do that. Heck, I want to do it.

Then why aren't you playing HeroQuest (http://glorantha.com/) already?! It's par for the course. In the main (only?) canon novel, King of Sartar, Harrek the Berserk is targeted by a sunbolt fired by hundreds of magicians supported by hundreds of more magicians. It melts off his and his troops' armor, but all the magicians (including the ones miles away) go blind from the backlash. He then proceeds to singlehandedly win the battle.

Then again, King of Sartar is a collection of in-character documents and legends, almost all long after the fact, but it's generally accepted that the depictions of heroes' powers are relatively accurate, and all the inaccuracy is about the politics and who actually performed which great deed...

Would smearing a sword with Oil of Fireball work?
