Midget on a Horse

I am proud to present Christopher of Hastings' Midget on a Horse!
After a thousand years the epic tale of this ancient tapestry can finally be told!

I will be posting one piece of the ancient tapestry per day, and I will edit this post with them. So for the next umpteen days, enjoy Christopher of Hastings' Midget on a Horse saga!

Pretentia aside, this is (for the purposes of this forum, but I prefer to think of it as a continuous work) a webcomic I'm doing for a laugh, in the style of the Bayeux Tapestry, which many of you should be familiar with, if not, Wikipedia and Google are your friends (hopefully) and will help you there. It's just my take on this sort of thing, which will be sometimes funny, sometimes ridiculous, but tongue-in-cheek throughout. Anyway, enjoy!

Currently up to Piece 84 of the Second Saga!

Well this is new.. and different.. and really, really weird.
Sounds like it could work, I'll be watching this thread. :smalltongue:

By the way, if anyone has any questions, ask away and I'll add an FAQ to the first post.

Can't really judge it without a comic, but this seems like it has the potential for much hilarity.

I will be watching.

That sounded less creepy in my head. :smalltongue:

Here's piece 2 of the tapestry, where the narrative begins!

2009-01-13, 07:39 PM
That's either a very small horse or a very tall midget.

Fifty-Eyed Fred

Very small horse, more like a Shetland pony.

Anyway, Piece 3!

I'd just like to say that the term "midget" is offensive for us vertically challenged people!

And just for the record, "little people" is equally demeaning. :smallannoyed:

Dispite offendedness, I shall continue to read these strange comics.

I was just about to say the same thing, Q:smallannoyed:

Seriously, not cool.

But go ahead if you really want to then.:smallannoyed:

I like how it's very medieval authentic. I'm not too sure if the rider counts as a midget. He looks to big on the horse. It kind of bugged me. Aside from that, I like what I see. Looks like something with much potential.

Fifty-Eyed Fred

It's a small horse. His name is merely descriptive, as you'll find with many characters, such as Ultimate Power Archer:
So, the plot begins to take form! And yes, that is dialogue. Hopefully it's not too hard to follow. The words wrapped around objects is taken directly from the Bayeux Tapestry by the way.

The latest strip, #4, two things:

dividing the words with that tree makes them harder to read
the line "My arrows will tear down the wall" or whatever it was instantly made me think 300. There should be a follow up line like "Then we shall fight in the ruins," or something like that.

Fifty-Eyed Fred

Nice idea. Trust me, there'll be plenty of opportunity for 300 references with this character later.

Oh, and the text around the tree is an imitation of the Bayeux Tapestry, in which words will often wrap around the pictures where there is little room.

Anyway, here is piece 5!

2009-01-16, 06:21 PM
The fact that you even got this idea wins you an instant 10 internet points!

Having seen the Bayeux Tapestry myself, I cannot help but feel that this is incredibly interesting. Keep it up-a.

Ah, lovely internet points! Always a pleasure.

The introduction is now over, and from here onwards the plot will move faster and there'll be more content per strip. Everybody's a winner.

Is it Grywrdnedythfhdu or Grywrdnedythfhdv?

2009-01-19, 12:54 PM
I think it's a 'U'.

2009-01-19, 05:55 PM
I think it's a 'U'.

Makes it easier to pronounce either way <.<

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-01-20, 02:34 PM
It's a "v". I tried a name that was Welsh-ish and difficult to pronounce :smallwink: (deliberately, obviously). But I'm glad you like him, because if you try and fight him, well...
And that's him being impassive.

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-01-21, 02:33 PM
Here comes Piece 10!
Double figures! May they become triple.

2009-01-21, 02:47 PM
You really got a talent here. It is intereting. How do you draw this, what programs do you use?

2009-01-21, 02:51 PM
This is getting good.

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-01-22, 03:20 PM
Piece 11 is here, but not Midget on a Horse's beloved peanut butter...

You really got a talent here. It is intereting. How do you draw this, what programs do you use?

I use this very nice Historic Tale Construction Kit: http://www.adgame-wonderland.de/type/bayeux.php
There are also characters that I have taken from photos of the Bayeux Tapestry, and others that are from drawings by me/photos and have been edited in the Bayeux Tapestry style. All in all I've tried to keep as close to the tapestry as possible, such as only using the colours of the tapestry's threads.

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-01-24, 07:31 AM
A bit late due to the forums being down, but here's Piece 12!

2009-01-24, 07:38 AM
I do like the absurdity of this.

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-01-24, 02:42 PM
Glad to hear it! Here's Piece 13:

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-01-25, 12:22 PM
Time for some answers in Piece 14!

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-01-26, 01:36 PM
Let's get to know The Dread Donkey of Grywrdnedythfdhv:

2009-01-26, 07:20 PM
Just in case I have not said it yet, this comic is awesome.

2009-01-26, 07:30 PM
This comic is awesomely quirky. And I don't mean Little Miss Sunshine quirky...I mean genuinely quirky. And it works.

Good job.

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-01-27, 08:27 AM
Cheers guys. It's great to know Midget on a Horse is appreciated . Here's Piece 16, and a brief spell of Gerdinand:

I also made the first Midget on a Horse Extra for someone on another forum, featuring Gerdinand:
I'll do these occasionally, when I think of something that won't fit into the saga itself.

2009-01-27, 08:50 AM
Very unique.

2009-01-27, 12:06 PM
That second one makes it look like the sun is firing a burning spike trap at his face.

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-01-28, 02:28 PM
Piece 17, 'tis here!

That second one makes it look like the sun is firing a burning spike trap at his face.
It's supposed to be a fireball type effect, that was fired from his finger and is moving right. I realise Halley's Comet from the Bayeux Tapestry is quite limited, but for the time being I don't need anything more than magical blasts, ultimate power arrows and mind control spells.

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-01-29, 02:49 PM
One does not simply post Piece 18:
Oh wait, one does.

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-01-30, 02:40 PM
Piece 19 Piece 19 do you have a Piece 19

The Neoclassic
2009-01-30, 03:49 PM
So very odd, and quite unique. I am strangely compelled to read more.... *Off to the archives*

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-01-31, 06:07 PM
Well well, here we are at Piece 20!

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-02-01, 01:33 PM
This last backstory bit is my favourite out of the three. Let's learn about Gerd...

Plus a bonus - I thought I'd demonstrate how I can edit images into the tapestry, so I tapestried my avatar:
If anyone else wants theirs done, ask away!

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-02-02, 05:17 AM
Piece 22 c'est 'ere!
Plus, in honour of the massive amount of snow engulfing south-east England (the heaviest snowfall for many a year), here's a new Midget on a Horse Extra!
Again, if anyone wants their avatar tapestried, let me know!

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-02-04, 04:22 AM
So the forums are finally back. It's still Tuesday somewhere in the world, so have yourselves a Piece 23!
This one is definitely one of my favourite ones I've done.

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-02-04, 03:17 PM
A rather dramatic Piece 24:

By the way, the offer of avatar tapestriage still counts, so if you want yours done, post here. I can do it in the original colours, or the colours of the tapestry, either way is fine.

Plus feel free to post any suggestions, speculation, opinions, etc! It's useful to get feedback on these things. :smallwink:

2009-02-04, 06:41 PM
Can I get this picture (http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd233/SzilardG/MtysFountain.png) tapestried?

Fifty-Eyed Fred

Piece 25 Piece 25 haben sie ein Piece 25:

Can I get this picture (http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd233/SzilardG/MtysFountain.png) tapestried?
Of course! Do you want it in the original colours or those of the tapestry, and would you like it on a tapestry background (by the way, for everyone else who wants one done, specify these and I'll get it done a lot faster!)?

2009-02-05, 06:53 PM
Of the Tapestry would be nice, and on a tapestry background.

Green-Shirt Q
2009-02-05, 09:40 PM
Again, if anyone wants their avatar tapestried, let me know!

I will request it, even though I don't know what tapestried means. No need to explain.

Please? Thanks.

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-02-06, 05:00 PM
Piece 26 time!

Szilard, here's your picture tapestried:
Q, yours is nearly done, when I have a bit more time I'll complete it.

2009-02-06, 06:52 PM
Thanks, now I just have to figure out what to do with it...

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-02-07, 05:59 PM
Piece 27, 'tis here at last!

2009-02-07, 06:14 PM
I'de like to see what I(oots form) would look like, tapestried.

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-02-08, 11:43 AM
And Piece 28 comes in the NIIIGHT!
Q, here's yours:
and CrimsonAngel, here's yours:

2009-02-08, 11:52 AM
Cool thanks.

Green-Shirt Q
2009-02-08, 04:30 PM
Q, here's yours:

Looks beautiful. If I wasn't feeling too lazy at the moment, I'd give you and your comic a "The_Q Seal Of Approval".

Maybe later.

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-02-09, 12:39 PM
Yay, potential approval! Things are looking up.

However, things aren't going quite so well in The Realm:

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-02-11, 01:56 PM
It's still Tuesday yesterday, so technically I'm updating on time back in time.
Plus today's:

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-02-12, 02:33 PM
The battle between Gerd and The Dread Donkey of Grywrdnedythfdhv begins!

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-02-13, 01:43 PM
The battle rages!

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-02-14, 04:18 PM
Gerd might be losing, but can he turn the tide?

2009-02-14, 04:47 PM
This comic is still amazing, and I am letting you know that i am still reading this.

2009-02-14, 05:35 PM
Surely the Dread Donkey isn't capable of flight. Burn the boat, Gerd!

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-02-15, 04:28 PM
Ah, but Gerd doesn't know if The Dread Donkey of Grywrdnedythfdhv can swim or not. Besides, he has other plans...
Thanks again for the praise guys, I really appreciate it. Here's one particular review of Midget on a Horse I've had that's an epic quote in itself:

This is like the bible, but online. And with more donkey warriors.

2009-02-15, 06:59 PM
Ah, Gerd might not know that -- but does the Donkey know that? Better yet, does the Donkey know that Gerd might not know whether or not the Donkey knows what Gerd knows? You know?

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-02-16, 11:46 AM
Now you can know what Gerd knows by reading Piece 36! That Gerd's plans are finally being revealed:

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-02-17, 11:24 AM
The tables have turned!

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-02-19, 05:03 PM
A double update since the forums were down! Piece 38:
and Piece 39:

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-02-20, 02:03 PM
Piece 40 is here!

2009-02-20, 02:47 PM
It's like watching Ye Olde Anime. :D

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-02-21, 05:31 PM
He's finished charging a huge Ultimate Power Arrow!

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-02-22, 12:29 PM
Piece 42:

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-02-23, 12:25 PM
Piece 43, and a new aspect of Gerd's plan becomes clear!

2009-02-23, 01:45 PM
I just found this:smallsmile:
Interesting change compared to other webcomix, keep up good work:smallcool:

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-02-24, 01:57 PM

Piece 44 approaches!

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-02-25, 02:20 PM
The situation just gets more and more dire:
I've just had a thought: it'd be interesting to know how many readers I have. It could be done if everyone who reads it posts here, otherwise I don't see how.

As usual feel free to post speculation, suggestions and such, I really value your input .

2009-02-25, 03:59 PM
Well...count me as one of your readers:smallsmile:

2009-02-25, 06:57 PM
I'm still reading.

Rae Artemi
2009-02-25, 07:11 PM
I'm reading, and also Ultimate Power Archer missed one, but he died from too much exposure to pure awesomeness.

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-02-26, 02:32 PM
Good stuff. Piece 46, and the danger triples:

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-02-27, 03:46 PM
Piece 47:

So, how will The King get out of this one?

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-02-28, 05:47 PM
Piece 48!
I bet you didn't see that coming.

2009-02-28, 06:48 PM
Actually, rocket chair thingy was second option I thought about:smallamused:
(First was using a holy hand grenade)

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-03-01, 11:48 AM
Ah, how shrewd of you. Piece 49:

2009-03-01, 06:08 PM
Gotta love the absurdity.:smallwink:

2009-03-02, 08:24 AM

All this needs is the Holy Poke Ball of Antioch.

You know you're insane when you mix Monty Python and Pokémon.

2009-03-02, 09:27 AM
So, a free-falling throne is dodgeing fireball things?

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-03-02, 02:28 PM
I really can't believe I'm posting Piece 50. This is quite the milestone. Cheers again guys for all your support. You're awesome.

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-03-03, 02:52 PM
Piece 51:
So, what now?

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-03-04, 01:58 PM
Piece 52:
And that is that.

2009-03-04, 02:14 PM
Poor king:smallfrown: I somehow hoped he'll survive...

Oh, and I forgot to congratulate you:smallsmile: Hope you'll reach 100 soon!

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-03-05, 01:49 PM
The King is dead, but who will be the new king?

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-03-06, 02:07 PM
The call sounds. The hero rides.
So, just out of interest, what does everyone think of this so far?

2009-03-06, 03:03 PM
First thing what went through my head was something like: "Throne for the donkey warrior!"

Ok, seriously...I dunno how they manage to avoid Ultimate archer's army:smallredface:
Maybe they brought their own:smallsmile:

2009-03-06, 05:09 PM

I bet it has something to do with peanut butter flavour. :smallamused:

2009-03-07, 07:31 AM
Why are all the spoilers in the first post empty?

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-03-07, 01:34 PM
They aren't?

Anyway, Piece 55:

-skimmer-, you have a good instinct. Threeshades, you're not too far off either; your inklings of the importance of peanut butter will serve you well in the near future...

Rae Artemi
2009-03-07, 01:39 PM
Isn't "flank them on both sides" a bit redundant?

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-03-07, 06:49 PM
Included because there are two armies coming in from opposite directions, so I wanted to make it clear that both armies were getting flanked and not just one. I know it would normally be tautology though (my personal favourite being "Torpenhow Hill").

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-03-09, 06:35 PM
A lovely double update since I time travelled a day too far.

Piece 56:
and Piece 57:

2009-03-09, 07:10 PM
I like the comic, its different and amusing.

However the whole !!!111!!one!1! thing was old before the comic even started and you use it in half your comics and in some cases several times in one... it just gets old.

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-03-10, 06:35 PM
'Tis but the black speech of Gerd. Who knows, if someone shuts his trap the world could be saved from "leetian" forever! :P

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-03-12, 02:38 PM
I have no idea where yesterday's post went (maybe I was dreaming lol) but here the battle begins!

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-03-14, 07:06 AM
A late update since the forums were down, but it's only just not yesterday in the Pacific or somewhere.
Plus the third Midget on a Horse Extra!

2009-03-14, 07:32 AM
Once again, for me the "Saga" spoiler on the first page is empty (or rather, it is full of smaller spoilers that are empty. Please fix?

2009-03-14, 09:27 AM
He landed on a sword?:smalleek:

But...but ultimate archer jumped off donkey of Grywrdnedythfdhv by himself! He should know where he land!

Or maybe he is the kind of hero who do things before he think about it...yeah thats it, who else could call himself "Ultimate power archer"

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-03-14, 06:10 PM
A simple injury can have such adverse effects:
Meanwhile in Irgas:

That's some pretty good insight of yours -skimmer-, which has pretty much just been confimed :D

Person1123, that's the images inside the spoilers not loading on your computer, which I have had happen to me in other threads. There's nothing I can really do to help you, you'll just have to read through the thread if they load in normal posts.

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-03-15, 03:07 PM
The battle rages in the Inner Realm:
Meanwhile, in Aurien:

The information within The Adventures of Pepin Hurdy-Gurdy Master will be valuable later by the way.

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-03-16, 02:46 PM
Who could have foreseen that Gerd would have such a simple weakness?
Meanwhile, in Aurien:

Congratulations to Threeshades, whose peanut butter inklings have now come to fruition.

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-03-18, 05:00 PM
Wow, with the forums down and stuff, not only is this a double update, with the extras you get 4 new pieces. Lucky you.
Anyway, Pieces 65 and 66:
and Extra Pieces 7 and 8:

It's strange... since I've been moved to the Fan Comics forum my readership has really dwindled. I should advertise more :P

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-03-20, 06:40 PM
Another double update, but I've been really busy. Ah well, 'tis done now.

Pieces 67 and 68:
Extra Pieces 9 and 10:

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-03-22, 05:32 PM
Another double update since I've been a busy person:
Pieces 69 and 70:
Extra Pieces 11 and 12:

The end is coming soon. I won't post anything beyond the first saga here for now, unless there is a real call for it.

Hope you come back someday...

Fifty-Eyed Fred

Piece 71!
Very well, I will let you, the fans, decide:
Shall I continue updating this thread? If so, can you guys help me out? What are some good ways to advertise on these forums, to get more members reading?

2009-03-24, 08:38 AM
Sure, you just need banners, and then more banners. Then you need people to use them. I'll free up some space in my sig later for one.

2009-03-24, 08:55 AM
Best and most used way how to attract new readers is starting some contest with awards, cameos and such.....well, I can help you with drawing awards, but I never did that before and unfortunately I can draw things only in oots style (with few exeptions where I tried mimic other art styles)

I can also offer adding your banner in my signature and/or make you new avatar...If you know any other way how I could help, just tell me:smallwink:

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-03-25, 03:05 PM
We're nearly at the conclusion!

I have made one banner already and it's on the front page, and I will upload some more. Make sure to link the banner. I really appreciate this. I'ver been thinkiung about a contest: I might start one tomorrow.

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-03-26, 05:21 AM
And so, at 73 pieces, the first saga comes to its conclusion.
However, do not lose hope, for the Second Saga begins this time next week! I'll probably finish The Adventures of Pepin Hurdy-Gurdy Master, technically a part of the First Saga that I started too late, in the interim.

So, thoughts? Speculation? What did you think of the First Saga? You guys have a week until the next one.

Thank you to all of my readers here; I hope you'll love the Second Saga.

2009-03-26, 05:41 AM
I wonder if we see King Midget on a Horse in second saga.....or it will happen many years later without him?

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-03-29, 12:55 PM
I said I would finish Pepin's adventures during the interim, and I have. Here's three Pieces for today (there are five in total).

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-03-30, 06:29 PM
The conclusion of Pepin's adventures:
The Second Saga starts Wednesday.

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-04-01, 05:54 AM

Well well, welcome to the Second Saga! I guess this answers your question -skimmer- :P.

But wait! It is time for our first competition! And guess what? It's the:

That's right, I'm giving you all the chance to make your own character (including image, but you don't have to worry about tapestrying it, I'll do that), the winner of which will star in a Midget on a Horse Extra, or possibly in the main narrative itself!

You all have two weeks to take part!

My recommendations: Thin lines make for easier tapestrying. If it looks medieval or fantasy based it will seem a more natural character for Midget on a Horse, but don't let that bind you - an extremely odd character would make for a nice contrast :D. You should know by now what works for this and what doesn't :P.

2009-04-01, 06:59 AM
Well thought contest, really. This certainly could bring here more readers:smallsmile:.
But maybe it would be better idea to wait at least 3 weeks and draw attention by puting it in the title. As you may noticed, not so much people watch this thread regurarly....yet.

2009-04-01, 09:28 AM
So image and a short description?
I'll get to it!

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-04-03, 08:58 AM
Piece 2, and we meet some of Midget on a Horse's court!

How do you change the topic title?

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-04-03, 02:53 PM
Piece 3 ahoy!

I also made a new banner:
http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/ww230/RufusChamberlain2/MidgetonaHorseBanner4.png (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=102030)

2009-04-03, 04:25 PM
How do you change the topic title?

Dunno, I actually never started any thread so I can't even try to figure it out:smallfrown:
But it is possible, there are artists who change title of their comic with each update...

By the way, the courtier on a pole was already one of my favourite characters, and now I know how he is called! Yay:smallsmile:

2009-04-03, 05:53 PM
How do you change the topic title?

You edit the first post, but you can no longer change the title after 30 days without the help of a mod.

Also, a character for the contest, none other than Henry Clay!

He must have lived forever, because he was a part of every major event for the first century or so of the United States of America.:smalltongue: He is a master diplomat, and is also known for starting a war or two.

Here's the current picture, but I'll make a better one later.

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-04-04, 07:33 AM
Piece 4!
So, our first contender!

Edit: By the way, I made a new thread for this in the main Arts and Crafts forum: http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=5957166 so Szilard, you might want to post yours in there :D

2009-04-05, 09:12 AM
Just want to say that this is an epic saga worthy of any tapestry. It need more reply, so here I am.

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-04-05, 03:33 PM
Why thank you :D. I know what you mean though, considering GitP's traffic I get surprisingly little correspondence, so it's always appreciated.

Piece 5!

Get your entries in for the contest guys! If you didn't see it, there's a thread for it here: http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=5957166 so post them in there! Szilard, you may want to repost yours :P. The new deadline is April 15th by the way.

2009-04-05, 05:16 PM
Why thank you :D. I know what you mean though, considering GitP's traffic I get surprisingly little correspondence, so it's always appreciated.

Well I think some of that is because it doesn't seem like I want to post about trivial stuff in the thread because it seems kind of like it sort of derails the comic. Also, while epic, the story is a bit silly and it doesn't seem like it warrants long discussions and picking it apart. I'm sure other people feel the same way.
You get some comic threads where there is 15 posts for each comic that is posted and there is no way to know when its just some idle chatter or a new comic. Those comics also seem to be the ones where they get 8 comics in and then never get updated again.

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-04-07, 12:15 PM
Piece 6!
Luckily derailing it isn't really an issue since I'm updating it every day.

I know it's a bit silly, it's an intentionally quirky take on this sort of thing, but I have tried to sow as many little seeds of character motivations and stuff as possible (for example: Gerd was a far better planner and tactitian than he seemed at first, but only in long-term plans; he couldn't think well on his feet at all. I showed this in his battles, particularly in the ones against The Dread Donkey of Grywrdnedythfdhv and the final one) to make it more interesting to read.

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-04-07, 04:50 PM
Piece 7!

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-04-08, 11:27 AM
Piece 8 has arrived:
Get entering the contest! You only have a week left!

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-04-09, 11:11 AM
Piece 9!

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-04-11, 05:40 AM
So, Piece 10 arrives at our shores!
So far there are 2 entriexs for the character creation contest, so if you submit one now you've got a damn good chance of winning!

2009-04-11, 04:55 PM
Is the Witch Gerd's Sister? Maybe she's also allergic to Peanut butter.
Personally though, I don't see why anybody would want to avenge Gerd's death. He is teh noobiest!!!

Maybe Gerd's wife has cloned herself or something. Then she'd be powerful enough to control the orks.

Nope, if gerds wife and that shadow is really one person, then she must be an orc!

I'm afraid that dreaded exam season has come upon me, and so for that reason I will be taking a 5 day break until Saturday. I'll try and do this as little as possible, but for now I'll have to take breaks occasionally until my exams are done. See you on the 9th!

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-05-09, 05:56 AM
I'm baaack...
If you were wondering, my first exam went very well. I may be unable to update for part of next week. We'll see.

Now, I'm seriously considering making a website for Midget on a Horse, to be ready for the start of the Third Saga, but I won't be able to work on it until June. I also need hosting and such. In light of the possibility of making a website, I'd like to put some questions to you, the fans.

I'll make the first one open-ended. What would you like to see on the Midget on a Horse website? Obviously the sagas will be on there, but what else?

2009-05-09, 02:32 PM
It's a trap!!:smalleek:

For the website, I'm not sure if you really need it, but it's your decision. If you make one, maybe you can add there some tutorial for tapestrying and such, I'm thinking about learning this art style a little bit too:smallamused:

A trap indeed.

Anyway, interesting, I wasn't expecting that. A tutorial for the style is more than possible and would actually be quite comprehensive, since there are many ways I went about it depending on what I wanted.

First of all, apologies for the massive delay. I have been very busy and very tired of late. Secondly, I have some tentative announcements for all of you:

The website is planned for Late July/Early August and will include the First and Second Sagas to begin with, and the Third will start on there. We will also have various extras that go 'behind the scenes' and if popularity increases we will have merchandise and eventually a forum. However, I do not doubt that Midget on a Horse's audience will grow due to a currently secret project. More on that in due course.

Last of all, have some Pieces:

Good to have it back:smallbiggrin:

Green-Shirt Q
2009-06-29, 08:47 AM
Hello, Fifty-Eyed Fred. Firstly, I would like to apologize for not reading this comic. I missed it for a couple of weeks, and got overwhelmed by the archives, and didn't even attempt to slog through them. For that I apologize, since it looks like you're doing an amazing job, here. I will try to read through the archives. :smallfrown:

Also, I have just come to remind you about the latest webcomic Secret Santa (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=115392). Just because there is a lack of artists signed up for it, just in case you missed it.

Good luck, Fred. :smallwink:

Hey guys, sorry about my extended absences. I've been extremely busy and I thank you for your patience. Over the next few days there will be several bumper updates until I'm fully caught up. I'll go to the end of the Second Saga and then post the Midget on a Horse Extra for the Second Saga that should've started a while ago afterwards until the website launches.

So for today, it's Pieces 77 to 83!

And Q, I have joined the Secret Santa .

Green-Shirt Q
2009-07-15, 08:32 PM
And I have finished reading the first saga, and have enjoyed it immensely.

I will begin reading the second saga soon, and I am looking forward to it. Keep up the good work, buddy. :smallwink:

Fifty-Eyed Fred

I'm going to start updating one Piece a day again, and I'll start the Extra plotline now. I can't keep posting these in blocks. The erratic updates end here, and thanks for sticking with this as always.

I have also added a fantastic guest comic that Mad Mask did for me to the first post.

Piece 84:
And The Tale of the Green Knight begins! You knew this was coming, -skimmer-

2009-07-29, 07:17 PM
I was losing all my hopes already:smalltongue:

I'm curious if he was inspiration for Gundulf the Green a little bit, or it was a mere coincidence?

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2009-07-30, 05:41 PM
Gundulf the Green was inspired by one particular figure from a particular fantasy novel (well, superficially anyway), and his name was the name of a Norman architect who came over after the Norman Conquest of England (making it Bayeux Tapestry relevant) who worked on a number of cathedrals as they were being remodeled in the Romanesque style (like the castles they built, it was intended to show the English who was in charge as a psychological thing). Hence the joke; a Bayeux Tapestry Gandalf.

Fifty-Eyed Fred
2010-05-18, 02:02 PM
Sorry, but I don't have time to update this webcomic, let alone start fiddling around with the front page, at the moment. I will, however, take this opportunity to say to anyone who might see this that while Midget on a Horse is on hiatus at the moment, it will be back at some point this summer, with a few important changes made. I will probably make a new thread for that when the time comes though.

Look forward to it! :smallwink:
