I'm playing in an arena game right now with some of my friends, starting at ECL 1 and moving upwards from there. As of right now, I'm ECL 2, with 300 XP to go to ECL 3.

Now, I'm playing a battle sorceror. Yes, yes, I know: BSORC EEEEEEEEW. Whatever, it fit the idea and I'm going with it. The plan, right now, is to go Battle Sorceror 5/Spellthief 1/Spellwarp Sniper 5, but that'll only take me to ECL 11. What do I do for the last nine (or more) levels? (note: if we make epic, Epic Spellcasting will not be available. Expanded Spell Slot Capacity, however, will be.)

I'd like to stick to being a raycaster (hence the Spellwarp Sniper), so sneak attack dice without CL loss would be great. Abjurant Champion is an option, but I'm not really keen on it: it's more frontliney than I really feel like going with, but if it can work, I can run it.

I rolled amazingly for stats, so I've got Str 16, Dex 17, Con 17, Int 16, Wis 15, Cha 18. I'm using the PHB-II Metamagic Specialist variant, so no familiar, but quick metamagic a couple times a day. I have Eschew Materials and Spell Focus (Evocation) right now. Again, yes, I know Evocation sucks, but I'm going with it. What can I say? I like setting people on fire with my ray of flame, and it'll make any nonwarped fireballs and (warped or not) great thunderclaps more difficult to resist. I'm planning on taking either Smiting Spell or Weapon Focus (Ray) for my next feat, but I'm not sure about either of those.

I know at ECL 6, when I take my Spellthief level, I'll take Master Spellthief to avoid CL loss, maintain my Armored Mage (Light), and make my raysniping capable of thievery.

I haven't run the Uncanny Trickster trick past my DM yet, so I dunno if that'll work for my purposes here. I doubt it, knowing this DM.

Thoughts?

By that level, you should have NO problem qualifying for USS or AT. Both advance casting 10/10, with AT giving more dice, but USS giving more skill points, and MUCH cooler features, including access to Divine and Ranger only Divinations like Hunter's Eye (lots of SA!) and Divine Insight (REALLY make that 1 important skill check today) or Gravestrike.

Hmm...I'm not so hot on Unseen Seer for two reasons: 1. no one in my group owns that book; and 2. It'll knock down the CL on my non-divination spells. However, Arcane Trickster is a decent idea, and it'll let me get into Epic Arcane Trickster and start nabbing epic feats. Hm. That could work. It'd also let me fuel my spellthievery with Impromptu Sneak Attack.

It only affects your CL, not your spells/day and whatnot. Practiced Spellcaster makes up for the loss. Alternately, shouldn't Master Spellthief make up the gap as well? Since it makes your CL the sum of your ST and Arcane caster class levels?

And yea, Improptu SA is ok, but by that time, you should be Imp Invising nearly every fight. Also, Quickened Grease + SA helps too. Take a look at the Circlet of Rapid casting for an awesomely cheap way to Quicken lots of low level spells/day without using a rod.

An excellent point. BSorc 5/SpTh 1/SpSn 5/USS 9...is there a USS epic progression around anywhere?

The other thing I was looking at was Daggerspell Mage, but I've never actually heard of anyone using it.

DSM is typically considered....not so good. By the time you get most of the good stuff, you are terribly squishy to be out and about mixing it up in melee. Plus, draws away a bit the niceities you'd be gaining with SWS.

I'm thinking you are gonna use Wings of Flurry, Breath of Frost, and the Thunderclap spells primarily for warpage?

Split Ray is a nice one for a SWS as well. Its a volley attack, so you wouldn't get multiple SA dice, but its a nice multitarget disable when you can split a Breath of Frost and daze 2 people, no save, even if you only get SA against one of them.

Yeah, I thought that too, but sometimes I see something that I think sucks and I'm later proven to be incredibly wrong.

And sometimes other people see the Spellthief and think it sucks, and then you prove them incredibly wrong. :smallamused:
