Scribe
“Why do I have to be stuck with my first decisions?”- Qillathe Amakiir, elven scribe
The wizard has a large selection of spells, but can only cast what he chose for that day. The sorcerer can cast any spells he knows, but knows only a limited number of spells. The scribe takes the best of both, the spell selection of the wizard with the casting flexability of the wizard.

Adventures: Scribes go on adventures for the same reasons as wizards and sorcerers, to gain knowledge of secret arcane lore and to master and surpass his limits of spellcasting.

Characteristics: Scribes cast arcane spells, just like sorcerers and wizards. While scribes have spellbooks just like wizards, they can cast any mix of the spells they prepared that day, sort of like the sorcerer.

Alignment: Overall, scribes tend to show a slight trend toward neutrality, since they have a mix of studying like wizards and the free spirits of sorcerers. They’re tends to be an even mix of good and evil scribes. Scribes can be of any alignment.

Religion: the rigorous training to become a scribe leaves little time for one to be devoted to a god. However, most scribes do find time to pay at least some respect to a deity. This tends to be Boccob. The more macabre scribes have been known to worship Wee Jas.

Background: the learning process to become a scribe is tough, even tougher than becoming a wizard. Apprentices must spend hours upon hours of how to learn to channel arcane energies to cast any spells they want, not just the ones they chose for the day. Even then, it seems that just practice alone can not give you the gift of the scribe. Most scribes feel like there is a needed inborn talent to become a scribe. Scribes can be from either a school, much like most wizards, or could be self taught, much like a sorcerer.

Races: Humans and elves are most likely to become scribes. Among the other races, they are rare, although not entirely impossible. Among the monstrous races, only kolbolts have shown any interest in the class, and even then it’s barely picked up by kolbolts over wizardry or sorcery.

Other Classes: being very weak combatants, Scribes like to work with other classes, particularly those who can hold the front like of combat, hence scribes’ liking of barbarians, fighters, monks, rangers, and paladins. They also understand that although they have great powers, their power is much different than a druid's or a cleric's. Wizards and sorcerers might look at a scribe with either awe or disgust for their unique use of magic, this is usually decided if the scribe is snobby or not. Scribes have no strong feelings about any of the other classes.

Role: The scribe is best as a back line fighter who cast offensive spells into the fray; therefore they can easily take the place of a wizard or sorcerer.

Class features
All of the following are class features of the scribe.
Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Scribes are proficient with all simple weapons. They are not proficient with any armor or shields, armor of any type interferes with a scribe's movments, witch can cause his spells with stomatic components to fail.

Spells: A scribe can cast arcane spells. A scribe can cast any spells that are on the sorcerer/wizard spell list. Like a sorcerer, a scribe knows only a small number of spells. However, each day a scribe can change the spells he knows. When a scribe studies each day to gain his spell allotment, he studies a spellbook and decides witch among the pages of the book get to be in his list of selectable spells for the day. If a scribe knows any metamagic feat, he applies them to his spells as he is studying for his spells for the day. For example, an empowered magic missile would take a 3rd level spot instead of the normal 1st level. A scribe could decide to use a 1st level slot to have magic missile and a 3rd level slot to have an empowered magic missile both in the same day if the option is available to him. A scribe can not choose to alter his spells with metamagic feats on the fly like other spontaneous spellcasters, like a sorcerer or a bard. Scribes using metamagic feats do not have increased casting time as sorcerers do. A scribe must rest for 8 hours before they can study to gain new spells.

Familiar: A scribe can get a familiar in the same exact way a sorcerer or wizard can. See the Player’s Handbook, pg. 52-53 for more details.

Scribe Scroll: The Scribe gets the Scribe Scroll as a bonus feat at 1st level.

Bonus Feat: At 5h, 10th, 15th, and 20th level, a scribe gains a bonus feat. At each such opportunity, a scribe main gain a metamagic feat or item creation feat. The scribe still must reach any prerequisites for the feat. These feats do not count toward feats gained at every 3rd level.

Spellbooks: A scribe must study his spellbook each day to prepare his spells, much like a wizard. He can not prepare any spells not in his spell book except for read magic, which he can prepare from memory. A scribe begins play with a spellbook containing all 0-level sorcerer/wizard spells plus three 1st-level spells of your choice. For each point of intelligence bonus the spellbook contains an additional 1st-level spell of your choice. At each new scribe level, he gains two new spells of any spell level or levels that he can cast based on his new scribe level.
