Morning all,

Talking to my dm last night as im close to 3rd level and I was thinking of taking brew potion as my 3rd level feat. Im a cleric that has focused on healing so heading towards RSP, but my question is,

As I have taken augment healing and as it does not increase my caster level should I be able to create potions of CLW that do 1d8+3 rather then +1??

Cheers

I'd suggest just buying potions if you really want them, brew potion is a waste of a feat, especially later on.

You can create a potion of any 3rd-level or lower spell that you know and that targets one or more creatures. Brewing a potion takes one day. When you create a potion, you set the caster level, which must be sufficient to cast the spell in question and no higher than your own level. The base price of a potion is its spell level × its caster level × 50 gp. To brew a potion, you must spend 1/25 of this base price in XP and use up raw materials costing one half this base price.

When you create a potion, you make any choices that you would normally make when casting the spell. Whoever drinks the potion is the target of the spell.

Most Potions are made with the lowest possible caster level because of the cost seen here, however it is my understanding that any metamagic or natural augmenting you can perform on a spell when cast normally can be bestowed into a potion (I know for a fact that it works that way with scrolls, I can only assume potions work the same).
Remember that potions also cap at 3rd level spells, however the caster level can be higher (so long as you are that high) so if you want to be doing this later on its a good idea to do that for the extra oomf in the potion.

I would agree that spending a feat on something that burns XP and can just be bought is a bit weak, however it does allow better potions to be at hand, you can sell them for a profit, and the XP loss will return easily if you eventually fall behind a level with it as lower levels get more XP. So, its up to you as to if you really want it, but it would do as you assume if you did.
