In response to this (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=102806) thread, I decided to come up with a feat to help tanks be able to tank better...

Battlefield Control Specialist
Prerequisites: BAB +13, proficient in all martial melee weapons, Improved Trip, Improved Bull Rush, Combat Reflexes

Benefit: This feat allows the following tactical options

Expert harrier A Battlefield Control Specialist is well trained in how to keep nimble opponents from completely bypassing them as easily. He is able to contest any Tumble check to avoid provoking an AoO due to movement with an attack roll. If your attack roll meets or exceeds his tumble check, then his movement is halted, although you still do not get the AoO. This ability may only be used once per opponent per round.

Defensive Bastion If you take a Total Defense action, you provoke AoO's when someone moves into a square you threaten, rather than out of one, however this does not bypass the limitation on only provoking an AoO due to movement once, regardless of how much they move in the area you provoke.

Grounding Strike One of the worst problems a Battlefield Control Specialist has to deal with is flying opponents. If a flying opponent flies within the area you provoke (including your range up), and threatens an Attack of Opportunity due to movement, you may make a special Trip attempt against that opponent. If the trip is sucessful, you slam your opponent to the ground, where your opponents falls prone. If your opponent was directly above you, he lands in the 5' square in front of you. As this is a trip attempt, you still gain any free attacks granted by Improve Trip.B

I like it. I'll let you know if I come up with any more specific comments.

nifty. i am going to yoink this.

i do have some issues though. first of all, you mix up the words threaten and provoke a few times. nothing bid, and we get what you mean. but still.

second, for the defensive bastion, i'd just make it fight defensively instead of full defense. full defense sucks balls unless you are getting annihilated. in fact, it wouldn't be too powerful to say that both full defense and fighting defensively trigger the foe to provoking AoO's with its movement.

like i said though, cool feat.

No, and here's why: Fighting on the Defensive, but Charge for full Power Attack/Shock Trooper/Leap Attack/etc...etc... then have Defensive Bastion active after that. It's too much of a win button.

And Defensive Bastion is pretty sick, if you think about it. You provoke when you enter his threatened range. So a typical Medium sized guy gets an AoO on you as you get next to him to attack. Basically, as though he had a weapon of reach, only without the reach. Now do this with Spiked Chain. You're wanting more of a finesse dex build for this to really work, but you could easily pull off a metric TON of AoO's. Combine this with the first option to stop them cold even when they tumble and you've got someone who negates any chance of an opponent hitting the 'rear row'.
