Hank is trying to be stealthy, and a loud fighter would disrupt that stealth.

SNEAK ATTACK!

My dagger disagrees.

wouldn't yelling SNEAK ATTACK! perform the same effect of unstealthyness?:smallconfused:

But apparently, Monks do not. Notice the use of Stunning Fist when Miko kicks Roy? http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0408.html

The problem is she's kicking him, and there's no analogue of "fist" for feet in the English language. What's she supposed to say? "Stunning clenched-foot?"

She's gone "Stunning Kick" before.

Maybe the move is a house-ruled attack called "STOP TALKING!".

That's where my vote lies. :smalltongue:

I think calling your attacks (for non-spells, anyway) is optional in OotS-land. For example, the half-ogre here (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0216.html) repeatedly yells "Attack of Opportunity!" while the Azure Captain here (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0437.html) gets one without having to say anything.

If you don't call out your attack in OotSverse, the Gods create a sound-effect. Notice the captain's swing going AOO.

It probably scares the **** out of people so they just yell.

I DM a D&D campaign, and my players always yell out what they're going to do for an attack. Maybe that's the natural translation into OoTS!

For game purposes, Hank has it backward. Sneak attack is automatic, and does not need to be announced. Power Attack is a decision, and needs to be announced in advance. ["I rolled 5 over the number needed to hit? Oh, I forgot to mention I was power attacking for exactly 5..."]

I dunno, I have to make sure to announce that I'm sneak attacking or my DM questions why I'm rolling so many dice.

Although I don't have my 3rd edition book with me right now as I recall it does actually say monks attack with fists, elbows, feet, knees, foreheads and eyelashes

While I don't remember the last two, the idea of elbowing someone to death is awesome enough. STUNNING ELBOW!

Due to the fact that the elbow is pretty hard, a hit from the elbow could/would be pretty damaging.

Yep - this is usually why someone announces their attack in rl. If you don't it generally just leads to more explainations, and occassional assumptions that you are cheating. Saying what you are rolling for beats the hell out of half an hour explaining exaxtly what feats/special abilities you have and how/why you have them.

I believe that, since the world revolves on principles of gaming, attacks must always be announced (like they are at the gaming table) unless it advances the plot. Anything can be done, reguardless of physics or logic, as long as it advances the plot.

(I know its a cop-out, but I'm right!)
