My friend showed me this game about 4 months ago. It is amazing. It's an old school DOS style game. Give it a shot.

I remember these threads coming up before.

One thing that was jaw-droppingly amazing happend to me: My samurai got Excalibur on one of the early levels! Of course that means it's bound to get stolen, or my charcter get mugged.

EAsy come easy go seems to be a law of nethack.

Not to mention ADOM (http://adom.de/), Angband (http://www.thangorodrim.net/), Crawl (http://www.dungeoncrawl.org/), and Slash'EM (http://slashem.sourceforge.net/). All great games, and if you manage to beat them all... well, you'll be an old, lonely nerd. :smallwink:

Myself, I play mostly NetHack, although, I've played ADOM a bit tonight (it's the game that first got me hooked on roguelikes). I've only beaten Nethack (Arc, Bar, Hea, Pri, Ran, Rog, Sam, Wiz), but hopefully that will change someday.

Lets see... best story... Well, just recently I'd beaten Master Kaen (the monk quest nemesis) for my first time, and had kept on going... I killed Vlad, killed the Wizard, killed the high priest, grabbed the amulet, and was on my way up. The damage I was dealing was a bit lower than I would have liked, so when Rodney duplicated himself, I killed a cockatrice and started wielding it. I killed one of him, and prepared to kill the other. But moments later, my monk---a pious, chaste individual---was accosted by a succubus. "Take off your boots," she said. "Take off your gloves." And my monk, my foolish monk, did so.
He died a virgin, at least.

They seem interesting but i stay away from roguelikes. High difficulty and lack of good graphics means the epic adventures i want to have are never gonna happen. Truth be told, no game has ever really delivered that to me.

One of the closest i saw was the first Disgaea game but it didnt have enough character customizations, still had somewhat weak graphics for my taste, and isnt on any console i own or can right now afford.

Perhaps one day.

I remember that game, great fun, although the cheats being easy to use kinda killed it.

To be honest i loved the X-COM games to death.
