Hello,

I love linguistics, though I've not gotten a formal education in it.

As most of my language knowledge is West-Germanic, I'm afraid I can't help with language questions dealing with languages not from that family, but I'm sure there are people here who can.

Now, I'm currently doing a little bit of sound change hunting on Dutch, mostly for the fun of it, because I know all of it's been done before.

Yesterday, I got a bit of a breakthrough, I strongly suspect /e:der/ <eder> turned into /i:r/ <eer>, but I had a big problem with that theory. The name of the Netherlands (Nederland) didn't agree. I found out that the old anthem was "Wien Neêrlands Bloed", similarly to archaic spellings "weêr" ('Again', cognate to German Wieder), modern weer.
