So, I was thinking of making a reusable battle grid by laminating a couple of A3 pages that have 1 inch squares drawn on them and use an eraseablemarker to draw borders and stuff.

My question is simple: is there a computer program that allows me to generate 1 inch squares on a piece of paper so I wont have to actually draw them myself ? (had to draw about 5 schematics for different refinery instalations and dont wanna see any pencils/rulers anytime soon)

Quick Answer: PSP, Photoshop or Gimp should allow you to make 1" square layouts.

More Detailed: Newbie DM (not sure if it's our Newb DM, or someone else) on this very subject. (link (http://newbiedm.wordpress.com/2009/01/13/newbiedm-tutorial-printing-battle-maps-to-a-1-scale/))

Bayar:

You are looking for this site to generate graph paper. (http://incompetech.com/graphpaper/plain/)

Set it at 1 line per inch spacing. Print out as many as you want and tape together.

Thanks for the link! I'm not the same guy...

You can also find premade grid mats that are pretty much exactly what you're talking about, if you prefer not to have to make it yourself.

I just bought plastic tablecloth with checkbox design and it works nice, and protects the table from food and drinks that are always spilling during sessions :)

I had the grid that came with the 3.5 dmg photocopied and laminated, it worked for a while but got cracked and stained quickly. What you, and probably everybody with the same problem should do is order a steelsquire flipmat (http://www.steelsqwire.com/prod01.htm) they sell them at paizo and other RPG stores. Those things are perfect. They can stand up to mayor abuse, and even permanent marker will dry wipe of it after a week! I own two, one is at my home and the other is at the local game group, being used every other day or so and after 2 years its still in good shape. Perhaps even better, their quite cheap respect to other mats of the same kind. Making your own would perhaps be a bit cheaper but I guarantee this one will be worth the few extra bucks.
