I'm thinking of drawing some oots styled characters, is there some blank templates somewhere I can check out?

http://www.trazoi.net/tutorials/inkscape/oots/ has a tutorial for creating the basic male and female templates.

And I think Gorbash or someone had a big lot, too.
If you're just starting, I recommend looking for one of the Giant's avatars or a scene from the comic that about matches the pose you're looking for and work closely next to it. Hell, I still do that now sometimes, though my templates have mostly replaced it...

I just drag a character off one of my comics and delete its armour.

Indeed.
Though I've uploaded them onto my computer so I could look through them.
Note, that these are examples, you shouldn't/may not use them but you may trace them. I think, Gorbash said that.

wouldn't simply tracing them be reinventing the wheel and largely get the same result? Assuming I am reading correctly I at least should not use the say weapons templates but I can "trace" them, how many different ways really are there of making a sword look different its source? 2 px smaller?
