View Full Version : Iron Avatarist: OotS on Film

Roland St. Jude

Welcome to the latest edition of...
Iron Avatarist

This Iron Avatarist contest will be judged by

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c273/AwakenedDreamer/Tribbles/OriginalStickTribble.gifhttp://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b259/RolandStJ/Oblivion.gifhttp://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b259/RolandStJ/bookman1el.gif
(Vorpal Tribble/Oblivion/Bookman/Possibly Pirate Roland)
(Final lineup subject to change - If any of you want to draw instead just let me know!)

Our theme this month is...
Film

What if your favorite films had been made in the OotS style? Or what if your favorite OotS characters starred in them? Any film, any era, what would it look like OotS style? What I'd love to see, are some of those iconic movie poster rendered in the OotS style. And finally, could we see an appearance by the animated concessions?

Remember: All artwork must be your own. Do not take, alter, or use any of the The Giant's art. Thanks.

As usual there will be a First through Third place award for each of the following, with trophies by Oblivion:

Best Movie Avatar (anything roughly avatar size)
Best Movie Scene (anything bigger than ^)
Best Movie Poster
Best Movies Erf-style
Best Rookie Entry

And, as always, the Best Overall award.

As usual, I'll be giving the Academy-approved Roland’s Choice Award to the avatarist's creation that most appeals to my, admittedly cinematic, sensibilities.

Every entry must include a bolded introduction as to what category you are trying to enter in.

Every entry must include a bolded introduction as to what your entry is.

For example:
Best Movie Scene
Life Moves Pretty Fast
[IMAGE]

Only the avatarist who created the avatar may submit it.
However, you may submit old creations as long as they have never been entered into an Iron Avatar Thread before. It does not have to be something made specifically for this thread.

All entries must be posted by March 7 at Noon Eastern Standard Time.

Good luck!

What's the limit on foul language in these entries? Say, is the word "Hell" accepted? It's in the comic, so I don't THINK it'd be an issue, but it can't hurt to check.

As for mine, well...let's just say it's a good thing I didn't have to include any quotes from the film in particular, or the forum censors would dogpile it and taser it into a heap of smoldering pixels.

Still...

"Stupid meals! The cornerstone of any nutritious breakfast."

Two questions: 1. If you've submitted an avatar as part of a scene before, but not on its own, does that count as "already submitted"? For example, I made a black Spaceball long ago. It was part of a "Spaceballs Villains" scene, and I don't think I submitted it on its own, but I do have it separate. Could I submit just the black Spaceball, and not the scene?
2. Is Kurama from a movie, or a TV show?

Shaddles of Griddle: Thanks. Drag, I'm proud of those avis... Ah well.

Also, no dibs allowed. Or at least, none listened to. If you want to submit something, you can, no matter whether someone else has already.

Roland: I just went through the Sci-fi contest, and it seems I intended to submit them all separately, but I ran out of time. So, I'll submit 'em here instead, but most of them aren't that great and I may redo them anyway.

Revan, it's preferred that you keep entries outside of spoilers, and I don't think yours needs one anyway. At least, it'd be a good idea to put the headings outside the spoilers...

Got something pretty epic started. One of my favourite scenes ever...

KK I had to do this twice, the program I use has an odd habit of closing out if you try to make it do something it doesn't want:smallannoyed:. Anyway I may submit one more if I get the chance.

Toss on, no idea is reserved in any way - and it might help someone.

Well, it's a damn good thing I didn't enter into the OOTS part of the contest. Otherwise my back-tocks would be beaten down like a child-headed step-red.

Instead, I stuck to Erfworld, where all I have to complete with is some inconsequential guy named Dr. Bath, who is in no way an avatar-ing legend. Smart move, m'right?

No results for the Rawhide contest OR this?

:smallannoyed: I'm going to start disqualifying or otherwise penalizing people who ask about results before they're due. :smallannoyed:

With one exception ever, results have always been posted according to this self-imposed schedule: before the next contest closes. (Typically, this is about one month to six weeks after the contest itself closes.) I'd appreciate the courtesy of no one stating or implying that I'm late until I'm actually late.

As for the Rawhide contest, that's his baby, not a regular IA contest.

Exactly.

Judging is a complicated process, involving several people--tense as it may be for the contestants, its not gonna happen overnight.

I actually find the best solution is to pretty much stay away from this thread for the next few weeks, then start checking in infrequently.

Also to join another contest. That way, you can obsessively worry over THAT one instead.

Hehe, even through my usual mist of art-narcissism I saw that I couldn't be certain to even hit top 3 with either of my submissions (the goal I set out with, other than improve my general standard of submissions).
And as it is popular to speak your own view: my two favourites in the category was Kaytara and Desouulm (a great first submission from him).
As for my own submissions, now when the aforementioned mists have disappeared I see at-least a dozen parts which I should have done better to be satisfied with them.
Tough competition, and I wouldn't have wanted to be in the judges uhm, sunglasses, shoes or baggy pants this round.
