I've let a player take assassin from level 1 in a campaign I'm running, except giving him spell progression as a bard. He's having a lot of fun turning invisible and death attacking or hiding in plain sight then sneak attacking something for too much damage.

My question is:
What would the class give beyond 10th level? What 5th & 6th level spells would be good for the assassin list?

I know I've seen some Assassin base class homebrews floating around the forums. Maybe try one of those?

Follow the current progression?
Sneak attack at 1st and 2 levels after 1st (like the Rogue).
+1 save versus poison every even level.

I'd give Evasion at 11th level and Instant Death (1/day)
Improved at 16th level.

Instant Death is at 11 and every 3 levels after: you can Death Attack without studying 3 rounds.

Spells? Unsure

You could also try the Assassin's Handbook from Green Ronin. I like adding it because it makes it feel like 1st edition.

Instant Death (1/day)

Is Instant Death an actual ability? If so, where is it from?

Here's one from the homebrew forums:

No. At least I don't think so.
EDIT: I'm probably wrong, though. Complete Scoundrel, maybe?

No, I took the Pathfinder Assassin and changed the name and gave it as progression.

Ther Pathfinder Assassin has no spell casting, but gain Swift death at level 10 of their assassin.
