View Full Version : Epic Adventure - help?

So, as some of you might know - but probably not - I've recently completed my latest novel, a thrilling recount of my adventures through Africa and America, the quest to reach Alaska and so forth - all very good, fun stuff. The novel is coming along well especially with some helpful direction from a good friend. But I need some help with the title.

At the moment, the novel is entitled Felix's Odyssey, which I like, but the thing is... Odyssey doesn't fit exactly. For one thing, the Odyssey was a return home, where as mine is an initial venture. Felix's Illiad wouldn't fit though since that was about a war, not a journey.

So, can anyone give me some examples of epic adventures, perferably well recognized in the literary world? Bonus points if it was a Journey somewhere, or a coming-of-age story. I just need something that fits in a Felix's (insert here) format.

Well you might go with iter itineris, which means something like ''journey'' or ''start/enter a journey'', but you would have to check.
This is just from my one year of latin....

Felixaar's Walkabout

Walkabout refers to a rite of passage where Australian Aborigines would undergo a journey during adolescence and live in the wilderness for a period as long as six months.[1] In this practice they would trace the paths, or "songlines", that their people's ceremonial ancestors took, and imitate, in a fashion, their heroic deeds.

"Felix Conquers The World"
"Felix on Foot Across a Couple of Continents"
"Felix's Travels With Dreadlocks"

EDIT: Actually, 'Felix's Walkabout' isn't bad either.

Hey, that's not half bad.

I was currently thinking of something to do with Aime Felix Tschiffely - maybe Felix's Ride or something simillar.

"Felix Conquers The World"

Shhhhhhhhh! They cannot know ahead of time!

"Felix's Walkabout" is nice. Alternatively, how about "Felix's Guide to Surviving the Perils of Africa and Middle America"?

EDIT: Any possibility of us outside of Australia getting our hands on a copy?

Why not Felixaar's Epic Adventure, to steal directly draw inspiration from the thread title?

Of course. What kind of author would you be if you didn't charge a high price for a signed first? :smallamused:

Felixaar's Walkabout

On a walkabout. (Bass line)
You can do it in a city you can do it in a zone! You can do it with a shuffle you can do the unknown on a walkabout!

The didgeridoo original man with the dream... I believe the aborigine!

Whoever gets the reference gets a cookie.

Oh, and Felixaar - sorry, I have no clue. I know how you feel about trouble with naming novels, though. Ugh. It's hard.

Of course, the whole 'being 14 and never finishing a novel' thing gets me, so that might be part of it, for me, at least.

So, sorry.

You CAN trademark them.

Heh. I hate to dissapoint everyone, but I ended up changing it to Beyond the Black Stump - for now, atleast. Im also finally finished editting, so it's time to take a nice break. Thanks for all the fine efforts though - I even learnt a few new words and got some neat ideas for bits to include in the book, even if not to name it by.
