I'm planning a 2nd edition Gurps one-shot with some friends, where they'll play as caravan guards in a Mad Max/Falloutesque universe, defending a huge tanker while it travels through bandit territory. The whole point is to never slow down, and keep the action fast, hot and heavy as bandits come out of the woodwork armed with crossbows, grapnels, axes, and cars.
However, I only have the basic book, and really need to figure out the logistics of a situation like that; How to translate everything that comes with something like that into the gurps-system.

Such as:

-Car chases, obviously. How to match two drivers' skills and engines against one another.
-Jumping between moving vehicles.
-Damage incurred from crashes.
-How much abuse certain parts of a car can withstand (say, windshield, door, tire . . .)
-What it takes for a driver to lose control of his vehicle and careen off the road, and what kind of roll to give him against it.

I'd really appreciate some help here . . .

2nd edition GURPS? You need to find a copy of the original GURPS Autoduel. Hold on, I'll see if I can find a copy somewhere....

Hrmmm. No, all I can find is the second edition of the sourcebook, which is actually for the third edition system. (GURPS is so confusing about that sometimes.)

What you *really* need is Car Wars, but I dare you to find a good copy of that now-a-days for under a $100.

Wait a second... really? I have that, and I enjoyed playing it, but it's definitely not worth $100 to me. Where would I find someone to whom it is worth that much?

Yeah, Ebay has one listed for ten dollars. Pity it's out of print. It was, is, and will always be my favorite car battle game.

Car Wars Deluxe for the win!

You can find it cheap? Last time I checked, pristine copies of Car Wars Deluxe was going for $160 or so.

And Car Wars Compendium for about the same:

Of course, I didn't check eBay. I feel daft now.

GURPS Vehicles can be too complex for quick action. Sounds like you want to use simplified rules.

Cliffhangers, has a list of cars (from the 20s and 30s), with simply a "driving modifier" score listed. Ranging between 0 and +3 if I recall correctly. The modifier seemed to be based on factors other than simply top-speed. Whenever the GM requires a driving skill roll, the car's modifier is added to that skill.

For fighting between cars, just come up with a HT and DR for each car that makes sense, and maybe some collision rules. I think Compendium II has some rules for vehicle combat that might be useful.
