I was just re-reading the series, and a random thought struck me. Do you think that it's possible that Xykon's Creature-in-The-Darkness is a Grue? Please tell me what you think!

Actually, that would fit well. He doesn't appear to suffer from light sensitivity and I don't think Grues can cause earthquakes. The eating and the fact that he's kept in the dark could indicate that he is a grue, though.

Also, welcome to the forums.

Probably not, becaise of his abilities as Tempest Fennac said, but it's a good idea!

Bah, I have already 100% proven it to be a pokemon! Although other people have 100% proven it to be a tarrasque. We should really just make a whole new MitD thread, the old one's buried a bit.

How did you prove it was a Pokemon, Greep? (I think I lost track of that thread if I saw it in the first place). Didn't Rich say it was a real creature? I know someone suggested that the MitD is a baby Godzilla before now.

AFAIK it was stated that MitD is a real D&D monster.

The creature in the darkness will later be teleported to this world by Ozymandias at the end of Watchmen and then go on to star in Cloverfield.

I bet it's something really anticlimactic, like an overgrown kobold or something.

Not quite... Rich said it was a real monster, not that it was a real D&D monster. There is a difference.

Based on the clues I've seen so far, the MitD is:
Godzilla, or one of the many other rubber-suited beasties from Toho Corp.

Rich wants this strip to be understandable by non-D&D gamers, so some obscure beastie from some obscure third party book wouldn't be known by non-D&D players. Even the Tarasque isn't usually well known outside of D&D, but everyone knows the monster I listed under the spoiler tag.

The MitD is a young Cloverfield monster. I will stand by my beliefs until the comic proves me wrong.

If it's a Tarrasque, then it's one smart cookie, because they can't talk. (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/tarrasque.htm)

SoD spoiler:

In Start of Darkness, the steritypical big game hunters who captuer the MitD in a jungle before he met Redcloak and Xykon were shocked that he could talk. We also know that his specise isn't normally found in jungles.

I have a stange idea it's a gold Dragon who is having memory problems. Either that or it's actually Snarl and know one knows it. :smalltongue:

You mean
One of the "velogodzillaraptors" from the American version?

Meh... 'Twas just a thought. I haven't read Start of Darkness, and I just joined the forum, so I didn't know any of the existing theories. I just wanted to know what you guys thought of my idea.

And Tempest Fennac, thanks for the welcome! I hope I enjoy this forum as much as the comic!

I think that no-one has any idea who or what the monster in the darkness is, in reality or in the OotS world. I predict that twenty years from now (REAL time, not in-comic time), when Xykon and the Snarl are finally defeated in the most epic battle ever, the final strip of OotS ever will be the thing in the darkness beginning to toss away the umbrella, but we'll never know what it really is. never.
