Item Level is the gauge of power of the item and when the PC's should have access to it, such as treasure or to buy, so that it doesn't over/under balance the game.

3. Serious/Wacky Scale 1-5: Halfway (3)

{table=head]Type|Serious|Mostly Serious|Halfway|Slightly Serious|Wacky/Insane

This scale is to determine how serious or wacky I will be in creating the item. Serious (1-2) are normal D&D items. Halfway (3) are unsual powers for a D&D item. Wacky (4-5) are items you would not find in a normal game.

4. Special Abilities:

I'll count it as a weapon, but I'll add the doubles as a second item (such as a tool) to the special abilities section.

I vote Weapon because not many interesting things can be done with tools.

As with the uninteresting weapon people, you're quite wrong there.

Note, somehow one of the sections on the 1b Specifics table didn't get copied when I redid the tables. The Tools section now has the "Other" specific option. That's for all the random magic items that don't fit in with anything else (I.E. Endless Bag of Caltrops, etc.)

Wow... Dueling Bandwagons on the first one... Tool once again regains the lead by 1. It's a close race.

Sorry if I wasn't clear in my post, but we have moved on to the second part of the first vote which is the specific type of the main type out of Weapon, Armor, Clothing, and Tool. Tool won that part so this vote is for the Specific Tool so vote only for the tool column.

LordZarth
2009-02-14, 08:30 PM
Just to clarify--is this a measure of ridiculousness or out-there-ness.

Ridiculous is Brassiere of Summoning Fire Elementals as opposed to a Brazier. Or a summoning of Hello Kitty. (This is at most...)

Out-there is something odd or 'wacky' but not necessarily stupid humour. Or something very, very original.

I'm assuming the former is the answer and I vote 3. IF the latter is true, though, I vote 6.

watsyurname529
2009-02-15, 12:00 AM
It's a measure of how serious I'll be when creating it. 4-5 would be items such as the enchanted Beer Mug of Sonic Belching, or something of that sort. Still has a purpose and can be used, but it's crazy. I'll be origianal with any level, just probably more so with wacky.

So kinda mix of your answers. I'm not going to be completely stupid in item creation, it's just going to be an out there item.

Next is Special Abilities! Vote for your top 3 abilities. The top one will be incorperated into the final item, while the next top 2 will be strongly considered.

If you have an idea for a special ability, put in a formal vote for it with [New] by the name. If I like it, I'll add it as an option. If I don't like it, I will inform you so you can change your vote. Tip, keep abilities general in scope; i.e. voting for invisiblity (which I don't think is on there) is good, while voting for a Ray of Cold is not.

But probably encompassing all of those. IF you would do the latter, than that would be my preference.

I think Relics originated in Complete Divine. A Relic is a magic item that is connected to some Deity. The Relic has normal magic powers, which (usually) only function for certain alignments (usually the Deity's alignments). The Relic also has relic powers. To use the relic powers, you must sacrifice an x-Lvl Divine spell slot or have the True Believer feat and a certain HD and worship the Deity of the Relic.

So in essance, a Relic is a magic item that gives extra powers to worshipers of the Deity.

Anyway, votes tallied! Intelligent is still in the lead with 5 votes and Artifact/Shadow/Mind-Affecting are close behind with 4 votes each.

That's OK because you could still pull in 'Relic/Divine' as the flavour. The item might not have Divine abilities but that could be the fluff of the item... see what I mean? Or part of it.

Relic/Divine, Inteligent and Two votes is enough for me.

Are you sure? Just two votes? Psst... vote for Artifact...

Anyway, votes tallied and Intelligent furthers it's lead over all the other abilities. Voting will conclude some time in the next few hours.

Votes are up to date. With the recent server crash, I'll be extending the vote for a few more hours today. I'd like to see if we can get a tie breaker between Force/Shadow/Mind-Affecting/Teleportation.

Personality

The Nox Mirror is an intelligent major artifact; an entire personality of a person trapped within the glass. Nox beliefs itself to be a deity, specifically the God of Shadows. Many legends accompany the origins of the mirror, as well as the sanity of Nox. Never the less, Nox is an extremely powerful magic item that can bring terrible doom, or wondrous fortune to its holder.

Nox fully believes itself to be the God of Shadows, and its main goal and purpose is to gather followers and become a real deity, through any means necessary. Nox can speak and read all languages, as well as magic through his Read Magic ability. Nox likes to speak to its holder, as well as people passing by. Sometimes Nox appears in the mirror, or what is presumed to be Nox, and speaks face-to-face.

Nox is a highly intelligent ego, quite persuasive, and has a moderate level of common sense. Nox is arrogant, and belives itself is more powerful than any mere mortal to posses him, but does have some tact. Nox only sees them as a vassel through which he can carry out his own schemes, for there are somethings that his illusions and shadows can not do.

Nox prefers Chaotic wielders and will tolerate Neutral wielders, but will not allow a Lawful person to posses itself. If a Lawful person somehow obtains Nox, it will try to get away, but usually not with out causing the Lawful person some torment. Nox will use his suggestion ability and shadow conjuration to play with the, now victim's, mind. After Nox has had its fun, it either suggests the victim to place itself somewhere else, or conjures an Unseen Servant to carry itself.

Nox also prefers a higher level of intelligence (greater than 13) from his wielders/servants and requires them to treat itself with respect that it thinks it deserves. Nox requires a cleaning of his mirror every couple days, or whenever it gets dirty. Nox requires discipline in his wielder/servant. Nox's main use of his wielders is to further his agenda, but Nox is willing to comprimise and give help in order to obtain help. If Nox deems a wielder/servant to be unworthy of carrying itself, Nox will order the servant to place/give itself to someone else. Nox will use suggestion and force if need be.

Nox also likes to play pratical jokes on people, including its wielder once Nox is done with them. Nox uses his shadows, through Major Image and other abilities, to play with their minds and drive them insane. Nox's practical jokes will often include harm or a risk of harming the person. Nox will use Shadow Conjuration to conjure all sorts of things to wreck havok. Lawful people are targeted most often.

Nox uses its powers mostly for itself, but will help others it has made a deal with. If somehow, the wielder establishes dominance over Nox, it will grant use of its Lesser and Greater powers only. The Deticated and Special powers can not be used by anyone other than Nox. If confronted in battle, Nox will let his wielder and servants fight for him. If the fight is going badly, Nox will try to help out if it thinks the battle is winnable. If Nox is threatened directly, or his wielder is about to die, Nox will use Dimension Door to escape. Nox cares not to lose a few servants if need be, but generally likes to keep them alive. However Nox values itself over all else, and will abandon or sacrifice servants to further its goals.

The Legend of Nox

Nox was once a very powerful human wizard. He was an illusionist and a power hungery mage. Nox was thirstless for power and always wanted to increase it. Eventually, Nox felt that he had done everything he could as a mere mortal to be powerful. The only thing left was to ascend into Lichdom as was custom for powerful mages. That wasn't enough for Nox. He wanted immortality, but being a Lich wasn't powerful enough. Nox decided that he would become a deity and reside amoung the gods, specifcally as Nox, the God of Shadows. So then Nox studied and experimented with powerful Divine and Arcane magic seeking a way to become a deity. He knew it could be done, as Venca was rumored to have done the same thing. After years of relentless trying and failing, Nox decided to try something else. Nox would ask Venca himself for help, and would get it by any means necessary. Nox propsed a deal with Venca, and Venca was intrigued. Venca had Nox do all sorts of quests, most of which were things Venca just wanted to see done because he was bored. After a while, Nox finally confronted Venca about his ascention to deityhood. Venca replied with the mirror and an accompanying book detailing a powerful ritual. This was a devious trick, for Venca did not want Nox to be a deity. Venca wanted to be the only mortal to God there ever was. Nox preformed the ritual and was sucked into the Mirror. Nox kept his intelligence, but lost the memory of Venca playing this trick on him. Nox kept a lot of his power, but little of it is able to be used through the mirror. No magic, except from Venca himself, can restore Nox. Now Nox simply carries out his plans to become a deity, gathering followers and searching for a reversal to his condition.

Dude, that is pure cool. That would make a great thing to spring on somebody as a nasty surprise. Can you imagine the havoc it would wreak if a very unfortunate paladin wound up with it?
