So, I heard that there was a printed item in one of the Dragon Magazines that would allow sorcerers to have an extra spell known. It was some sort of gemstone or something?

My question is thus: what is this item, and what's the pricing for it?
Second Question: Is there any other known way to get more spells than the sorcerer has normally?

Note: this is for a player of mine. :smallcool:

Yeah, I think they were called Knowstones.

I don't know much about them, though, and I prefer Runestaffs. They're from Magic Item Compendium, and they allow a Sorcerer to know several extra spells, all in a theme. But with restrictions (these extra spells are only 1/day, and he can only be attuned to 1 Runestaff at a time). They're pretty reasonably priced and quite handy.

There's also the Extra Spell feat, but most optimizers agree it's a waste of a precious feat.

Indeed the item is a Knowstone and it is found in Dungeon Magazine #333. The cost is (spell level) ^ 2 * 1000. Cantrips are 500 gp.

Here is a table if you want, up to level 5: table (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5710686&postcount=24).

Basically, a Knowstone is attuned to a specific spell. When you have the stone in your posession the spell counts as being on your Spells Known list. You can only use Knowstones that are attuned to spells on your list (i.e. a sorceror can only use Knowstones attuned to spells from the Sorceror/Wizard lists).
