My computer refuses to hibernate when press the button, select the option from my shutdown menue, or close the lid. All of these are supposed to make it hibernate.
So, using luddite options, how can i fix this?
Huh, have you checked the control panel? I mean, the control panel from the start menu, there should be a 'power options' icon. You could enable or disable hibernation from there.
I can't help more than that though.

Try:
Start menu
Control Panel
Power Options
In the "Advanced" tab there are three pull down lists one of which says
"When I close the lid of my computer"
You can choose what you want the computer to do under various stimuli.
Edit:
Duh :P tab next to that it called "Hibernate" !
there is a tick box to enable hibernation.
Hope that helps

go to run, and type in cmd, hit enter.
In the command terminal, type powercfg /hibernate on then hit enter.
It'll either enable it, or tell you why it can't be (I had an old sound driver thing put on mine that interfered with it)

Is it a laptop? On my laptop I had to go to "Adjust Battery Properties" and go to "Hibernate" and check the button "Enable Hibernate" before Hibernation would work.
