I found the contents of strip 629 a whole lot less revealing and meaningful then the title of the strip itself. Why, is the dragon going to kill V's children, without h** being capable of doing anything to influence it? Because he did not TRANCE. He had one chance, just one round of spell casting to stop the dragon her tracks before she teleported off to eradicate his family. And what did he do? He missed. Of all possible plot turns, "V" will blame herself, rather then the dragon, for her children's death. Why? Because her impaired aim was directly influenced by her refraining from trancing. On one hand, it might drive "V" into a crazyer state of mind. On the other hand, she might understand that her teammates' advice to trance would have probably stopped her from getting her children murdered.

But don't forget the missing imp! He might do something unexpected for V's help!

All things considered, though, V wouldn't have achieved much by hitting the dragon with the Dimensional Anchor. Since we've already established that the dragon wants to leave V alive to stew on all this, she likely would have just flown on. With his far lower Flying speed, V wouldn't have been able to keep up. The dragon would have just ignored him and cast the Teleport spell several minutes later after the Dimensional Anchor expired.

Of course, those several minutes might have been used to get a warning to V's family, so V would still be able to blame himself for missing that shot.
