Welcome to the 18th ABR Discussion Thread!

Because we used to burn through new ABR threads so quickly, we created the Discussion thread. All banter goes here, and all comics and non-canon kills go in the main thread. (see line below)

Avatar Battle Royale: We All Live in A Yellow Citadel (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=88925) is the current thread. Post artwork here.

The ABR backup thread (http://z15.invisionfree.com/Remember/index.php?showtopic=161), used in the event of Giantitp becoming untenable due to server issues or otherwise.

A giant bell?
A fox person thingamahoobajoob?

I approve of this.

Well...i like that kind of weapon, even if its not that original how it seems.

And about that fox person, its not a werefox or kitsune....its more a fox shapechanger (described there (http://theshadowrun.proboards7.com/index.cgi?board=races&action=display&thread=575) in shadowrun rules which i know a lot better, so i decided to use their version for this character). I am still not sure about backstory and need to learn few things before i dare to join up.

Well any info on our little corner of the playground can be found on our wiki

Link (http://abr.wetpaint.com/page/Fat+Fish+Fury)
It's probably worth mentioning that sometime within this/next few months we're (sort of) ending our main storyline and starting up a (somewhat) new one. You'll find all the info on that under the Future Imperfect page on the wiki.

As for the backstory, again I'll point you to the wiki. You'll find all the info you need to create one.

Also, if you're really gonna be dedicated to this. The archive (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3439552&postcount=663) I wouldn't recommended reading it all in one go these days.. :smalltongue:

It's fun to see how the art improves as the comics go on though.

It's not intentional. Intervene is a very common word in the english language, and the majority of people here are native English speakers. We don't know your entire vocabulary, so even if we wanted to make sure you knew every word we used, we couldn't.

Lyinginbedmon
2009-02-10, 12:01 PM
To define "intervene" I'll use a situation.

Person A and Person B are fighting

Person C sees the fight and wants to stop it

Person C stands between Person A and Person B

Person C is now intervening in the fight.

To "intervene" is to disrupt the affairs of someone else for better or worse, basically.

Marfan Syndrome:
This mainly effects connective Tissue (as lying said) and bone structure. Symptoms include:
-Elongated limbs mainly effecting fingers and toes. [Yes]
-Difficulty in producing muscles and body fat. [Yup]
-Fast growing finger nails. [Yes]
-Curved spine. [Nope]
-Can make you tall or taller above average. [I am tallish but nothing above average]
-Effect the way in which the heart works and you may have an irregular heart beat which can lead to heart attacks in later life. [I’m going to see my GP about that apparently]
-Pectus Carinatum*

*Pectus Carinatum:
Also known as “Pidgin Chest” This mainly effects the ribs and lungs and usualy effect women but can also effect men. Symptoms include:
- Your ribs stick out a bit giving you a larger chest. [yush]
- Poor eye sight. [Yup]
- Can effect the lungs. [Yuppers]
-- You can run our of breath faster then normal. [Yes]
-- Wheezing. [Indeed]
-- Prone to coughing. (?) [Yes, I have random cough attacks for no apparent reason… Usualy in the evening]
-- Minor Asthmatic Symptoms. [Indeed so]

Hurray, I have two genetic mutations, I could be like an X-Men only not really.

Funny thing is, my friend has the exact opposite of Pectus Carinatum where ribs go inwards.

Well, as Drowzy seems to be on hiatus again (if not, I apologize for the comment), I think I will be making comic soon. We thought that it was finally the time to get TnD and GR moving from Vendetta, so I will be making first comic of the effort to get off the sinking ship (though what time this happens in canon will be close to orginal sinking situation, as it would be completely absurd to have all that time actually passed and they would have no sweet chance in baator of getting off alive).

Inelegant means how well you can pick things up, how well you react to certain situations and how you understand thing
Educated means how much you know such as how good you are with maths or science.
For example, "He was well educated in Mathematics".
This means he's good with maths and knows a lot about it, but doesn't necessarily mean is inelegant.
However, being well educated in many areas can also improve your inelegants.

Sure, if the player knows what monsters are going to be in the dungeon, and he is making a new character, yes he can pick his spells. Otherwise he is stuck with the spells that he got when he created his character. Wizards ? They just choose their spells according to the situation. And have a broader list of spells that they can prepare.

And the artificier can use any spell in any list. Your point ?

I was reffering to the fact that wizards can have a ****load of spells in spellbooks to prepare and cast depending on the current situation. Sorcerers on the other hand need to plan out from level 1 as they can only change spells at even number of levels. Well, if you use the retraining option from PHB2, then they can change their list with added efficiency, but still, you need to know what you are doing.

Still, if they know nothing about the dungeon (as usually) the sorcerer can do whatever his spells let him (we have to swim down 300 feet's to survive, easy. The pool is acidic, easier) While wizards must prepare per day (acid! I haven't prepared anything against that)So sorcerers are ore flexible, but still limited as you said, I think that's what he meant.

K. Then, what are the odds that a sorcerer has both a spell that lets him swim good and a spell that protects him from acid. Sure, protection from energy is a good option and so is Alter self.

This is what I cant comprehend.

Maybe he has maybe not but he can use whatever spell he has when he want, while the wizard with all his spells has to choose few for the day (the examples was for showing that no matter which spells the wizard has he has to prepare them and might end with all the right spells but none of them prepared)

Is it hard to prepare a spell while resting before setting out into the unknown? You know, the cleric/druid/whatever divine character you have that probably buffs more than heals needs to recover his spells too.

Anyway, sorcerers need to read this: http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1080031&highlight=sorcerer+handbook

All I said was that sorcerers can do what they want (just having the spell is enough) while a wizard might have prepared spells for another situation (he could have prepared spells for the big battle ahead but got trapped and forgot to prepare spells for it, while the sorcerer don't need to think forward) but let's stop the discussion, it leads nowhere and both are good anyway.

You just have to save your templates in SVG, and open the file with Illustrator. Normally, it should work.

The pen tool and the various shapes tools (rectangle tool, ellipse tool, etc) are the only tools you need when you start. If you don't see the tool window, just go in Windows - Tools. This window contains almost everything that you need for now. In the Stroke window, you can change your line thickness and whether the lines and shapes end in a rounded point or not.

That's what I did. But all my templates appear to have fused into one path, which is a load of different paths at the same time. As in, I try to move one, and I move them all by mistake. And many of the line thicknesses are completely wrong.

2. Q, Q and Rand meet her inside, its natural that you can find some random heroes beating random vilians for their own motivations...and lack of knowledge about these vilians could bring a cute girl in really, Really weird situations..

3. Some random fox-girl apear out of nowhere and says "Hi! I am going to beat shades too!!!" (Not the best option, but I can work with that:smallannoyed:, in the end I am still newbie, arent I?)

4. Join another plot? Well, didnt thought of that yet...

Coments? suggestions? Else?

Soo cute :smalltongue:

Or I can do what I usualy do, open up a portal and throw into the plot.

My last comic gave me the idea of having the entire NPC village of kobolds (50 minor NPC's and 3-5 major) work for the resistance (but useless in combat since they where peaceful before, but they might serve as workers ad repair crew mens) and change the backstory of Argonath and Flayon so that Keveak and a few others held back whatever destroyed their island, but that might be a bad idea. Opinions? Nah I'll just have the farmers (the two you've seen not all the others) and Ignotus have survived too.

What version of Illustrator do you have ? In CS3 (and CS4, probably), you have very advanced blur tools, located in Effects - Blur. The one you are probably looking for is the Gaussian Blur.

What do you mean it can't use hexadecimal colours correctly ? When you click on Fill, at the end of the Tools Window, another window should appear, and you can type the hexadecimal colour near the "#".

What are your scaling problems? You do know that Inkscape shrinks/enlarge it to be the same shape (just smaller/larger) as original if you hold ctrl while scaling. It's not bad for so early actually, you just need a little practise

Ah, yes, but it can't blur the stroke by itself, and it rasterises the whole object. And it can't handle anything with the stroke blurred. This made more sense in my head. Let's try again.
It's easier and quicker to do in Inkscape, and while it may take much less time to zoom and create much less lag it also doesn't look any good at >100%. Since I generally work at ~400%, this is important.

What do you mean it can't use hexadecimal colours correctly ? When you click on Fill, at the end of the Tools Window, another window should appear, and you can type the hexadecimal colour near the "#".

Yeah, back when there were like 7 different artists working on it. Good times, good times.

Which reminds me, I'm going to make another SDSB comic today with SD, and I am going to see what I can do with the Chocolate factory.

I just realized something while editing the archive for SDSB: When we post a new post of the next part of archives, it will be in one of these threads right? Now that we have made the move to the Fan Comics Forum, threads get locked when a new one is made. So when we make the next part of the archive, it will be uneditable/quotable, I think.

So how will we bypass this?

Just copy all the archive stuff and move it here, I guess. Or ask a mod to move it, or something. I don't know.:smallconfused:

Apparently.
Also, is there a reason we don't have our own website? ABR is pretty major, and I think it would make sense. We could stop clogging the forums. The fans who actually exist would find it easier to understand everything. We could stop having to make new threads. Everyone wins.
One more thing: Where was the Bilbo Baggins picture originally posted? I want to make an ABR collage for my desktop.

I personally have no idea why a Saint executed by the Romans for aiding the then persecuted Christians was chosen as namesake for a Hallmark Holiday. Happy SAD anyway.

If you mean a week where everyone has Kobold avatars, while awesome, it would be quite limiting. Perhaps a Monstrous Humanoid week instead, so people can pick from a wider range of creatures? Or better yet, just a DnD Monster Week, so people can use anything from the books/OotS.

1) Kobold week!
While Kobolds are awesome, and would certainly be the master race in any fantasy setting, if it weren't for the jealousy of various Gods, not everyone likes them.

2) Monstorous humanoid week? A bit questionable...
Monstrous Humanoid, meaning any Humanoid creature that is not simply a Human/Elf/Dwarf/etc. Gives people some variety.

3) Okay, DnD monster week? WAAAAY too broad. :smallyuk:
Broader is better for avatar weeks (in most cases). Many people on this site are unacquainted with the DnD rules, knowing them only through OotS.

Why does everyone hate gnomes?! There is nothing wrong with them, save misrepresentation! They have been portrayed as annoying pranksters, annoying tinkerers, and annoying halflings, just more annoying!
If I were in charge, I'd just get rid of halfings and have gnomes replace them. Halflings have no place in D&D, it's ripping off Tolkien. Actually, they were originally called 'hobbits', but Tolkein's lawyers intervened. SRD changed the name to halfings. For some reason, that was okay.
Halflings have no place in D&D. Gnomes have the potential to be a really awesome race. D&D is just leeching off LotR's popularity with tall, hot elves, orcs, grumpy comedic-relief dwarves, and HALFLINGS!
Orcs I can understand, I guess. I would prefer we not have them, but I've had some pretty cool campaigns with them. But we have no need for halfings! We have gnomes for that! Because of halflings, gnomes are too unfocused to be popular!

Gnomes aren't as bad as people make em out to be, it's mostly just the people behind them. Of course, I'm talking about WoW gnomes here. Seeing as I can't really comment on the DnD kind. It's too bad that I'm still obligated to dislike them.
