Before I post these stats, those of you familiar with the Dragonball comics and anime, please note this is my interpretation of the Saiyan into the D&D Multiverse. I didn't write this up with an idea to be "wholly accurate" or "faithful to every detail" of the original series. Goku was pretty much a 15th-level Gestalt Barbarian/Monk by the time he was 12. I have no interest in statting out something that epic. So I toned the Saiyans down while, I think, capturing the flavor of the maurading space pirates. Read and please enjoy!

Saiyans are a brutal warrior race who are famed and feared for their power and utter lack of mercy. They look similar to humans, but are invariably powerfully muscled. Both males and females tend to be muscular, averaging between six and seven feet. (However, it is not unknown for some Saiyans to be as tall as 7' 10", and strangely enough, there is a prevalance of short stature amongst their royal lineage.) They are even stronger than their thick forms suggest, and carry axes and other weapons that look sized for giants. They dress only in crudely made armor of animal hide, wearing their protective gear at almost all times. They accessorize with necklaces of bone and fangs, and hang small fetishes or charms from their weapons. Saiyans have two characteristics common to the whole race: full manes of thick, jet-black hair that naturally clumps into thick spikes as if gelled, and a slender, prehensile tail that would seem to belong to a monkey. Saiyans, male and female, typically weigh in at 200-245 lb, though their denser muscles make them closer to a human of twice that weight in strength. It is a rare Saiyan adult who doesn't have at least a dozen scars, which they wear proudly. Saiyans speak giant, and those with Intelligences of 10 speak common.

Combat

Saiyans are violent by nature and inclination. They consider lethal combat a sport, and relish the thrill of battle. In combat, a group of Saiyans will use teamwork most of the time, but they enjoy the glory of one-on-one confrontations and a cocky leader might order his men to hold back while he battles alone. Saiyans think of ranged combat as weak and cowardly, but they have no qualms about ambushing their foes if they can. The most dreadful power of the Saiyans is their ability to transform into gigantic were-apes at the sight of the full moon, at which point they have the power to grapple a dragon and singlehandedly destroy whole villages.

Oozaru Transformation (Su): This is the most dreaded of all the Saiyan's abilities. If a Saiyan gazes upon the Full Moon, he experiences a dreadful and tremendous transformation. He adopts the form of a massive and snarling ape, the size of a large house. Once he transforms, a Saiyan mindlessly rampages, attacking any creature or object in sight, until the night passes. The Saiyan has no memory of his actions in his transformed state. An Oozaru Transformation is a full-round action. The Saiyan's size increases to Huge, with the following statistical modifiers: Double all HD, +16 Str, -4 Dex, +8 Con, +6 natural armor, -2 AC/Attack and its type changes to Magical Beast. A Saiyan's Intelligence in Oozaru form drops to 2, and its alignment is invariably Chaotic Evil. In Oozaru form, the Saiyan gains a breath attack. This attack of pure ki energy does 14d4 damage in a cone-shaped burst (60 ft. range) with a DC 26 reflex save for half. When it fires its breath weapon, the Oozaru must wait 1d4 rounds to use it again. In Oozaru form, the Saiyan has a Frightful Presence whenever it fires its breath weapon. Creatures within 60 ft. of the Oozaru are subject to this effect if they have less HD than the Oozaru. A potentially affected creature must succeed a Will Save (DC 10 + 1/2 Oozaru's HD + Cha mod). If it passes, the creature is immune to the Frightful Presence for 24 hours. If it fails and has 4 HD or less, the creature is panicked for 1d6 rounds, while those with 5 or more HD become shaken for 1d4 rounds. Oozaru ignore the frightful presence of other Oozaru. The Oozaru Saiyan also gains one new type of attack: Crush (Ex.) The Oozaru uses its whole body to crush a foe at least three sizes smaller than itself, and as many foes as will fit under the Oozaru's body. When the Oozaru drops down on its targets, they must succeed a reflex save (DC 23) or be pinned, automatically taking 2d8 bludgeoning damage next round if the Oozaru doesn't move off them. If it stays, treat it as a normal grapple attack. Pinned targets take bludgeoning damage every round they remain under the Oozaru. If a Saiyan's tail is severed, the Oozaru transformation ends prematurely, one round after the tail is severed (whether the Saiyan has time for a last action or not is dependant upon its initiative count.) The tail regenerates in 1d4 weeks.
Damage Reduction (Ex): Saiyans ignore five points of damage from any attack excepting magical weapons of +1 or better enhancement.
Resistances (Ex): Saiyans are rediculously tough and able to shrug off even the most extreme environmental hazards. They ignore five points of damage from fire, cold, electricity, sonic and acid attacks.
Massive Strength (Ex): Saiyans are possessed of tremendous strength, even moreso than their strength scores suggest. A Saiyan is treated as a Large Creature when determining his carrying and load capacity.
Powerful Build (Ex): The physical stature of a Saiyan lets him function in many ways as if he were one size category larger. Whenever a Saiyan is subject to a size modifier or special size modifier for an opposed check (such as during grapple checks, bull rush attempts, and trip attempts), the Saiyan is treated as one size larger if doing so is advantageous to him. A Saiyan is also considered to be one size larger when determining whether a creature's special attacks based on size (such as improved grab or swallow whole) can affect him. A Saiyan can use weapons designed for a creature one size larger without penalty. However, his space and reach remain those of a creature of his actual size. The benefits of this racial trait stack with the effects of powers, abilities, and spells that change the subject's size category. (Thus when a Saiyan becomes a huge Oozaru, he is treated as Gargantuan in such cases.)
Climate Tolerant (Ex): Saiyans suffer little harm from environmental extremes of heat and cold. They do not have to make Fortitude saves in extreme environments between -20 and 140 degrees farenheit.
Natural Ki Use (Su): Saiyans possess a natural ability to use their ki in ways that take other races years of training to learn. Saiyans can intuitively harness their ki to infuse their already powerful bodies with even greater strength. Saiyans are treated as having the Improved Unarmed Strike feat without having to actually take it. In addition, their unarmed attacks count as magical weapons for purposes of overcoming damage reduction. Saiyans do not have to meet the ability requirements to take Stunning Fist, or any other feats involving the use of ki.
Ki Frenzy (Su): While other races hone the use of their ki through discipline and mental focus, Saiyans are able to use theirs best when they are consumed by complete rage. Once per day, a Saiyan can enter a ki frenzy. In this frenzied state, they temporarily gain +2 to Strength and +2 to Dexterity. Their speed increases by 10 feet, and they can choose to make a flurry of blows with a full attack action in melee, making one extra attack per round while suffering a -2 penalty on every attack. While in a ki frenzi, a Saiyan cannot use skills or abilities that require patience or concentration, such as moving silently or casting spells. They can use any feat they might have except for Expertise, item creation/metamagic feats, and Skill Focus (if tied to a skill that requires patience or concentration.) A ki frenzy last for a number of rounds equal to three + the Saiyan's constitution modifier. The Saiyan may prematurely end this frenzy voluntarily. At the end of the frenzy, the Saiyan is fatigued (-2 to Strength, -2 to Dexterity, can't charge or run) for the duration of the encounter. Entering a frenzy is a free action, but a Saiyan can only do so on their turn.

The Saiyan presented here had the following ability scores before racial adjustments: Str 13, Dex 11, Con 12, Int 10, Wis 9, Cha 8

Saiyan Society

Saiyan society is split into clans, which is typically a half-dozen family units under the command of one mighty warrior. Saiyan communities usually don't have any civilized neighbors for hundreds of miles---they constantly raid and terrorize any nearby settlements until only the Saiyans or their foes remain. Saiyans are taught that power is the only absolute in the universe, and they live by a harsh creedo of Survival of the Fittest. They have no crafts and make no goods, living off the land or pillaging for whatever they may need. Saiyans are absolutely convinced that they are the strongest race in existence, and therefore they have the right to abuse and kill "lesser creatures" however they see fit. However, their faith in strength as a virtue means they will swear fealty to any outsider who can cow them sufficiently, and sometimes they will hire themselves out as mercenaries for great amounts of goods and provisions. Saiyans are no more merciful towards each other than they are to outsiders, and two clans will inevitably see each other as rivals.

Saiyans are a fecund people (indeed, eating and breeding are essentially the only nonviolent activities they bother with), but their harsh lifestyle and pitiless society keeps their numbers low. A collection of two dozen warriors is considered an army by Saiyan standards, yet this is truly enough to level the communities of many weaker races. The reason Saiyans are seminomadic is because of their infamous and monstrous appetites. Their metabolisms work quadruple the rate of other humanoids, and they must consume several times as much food per day as a human just to keep their strength up (and they like to eat more than that, if they can.) Saiyans will literally strip a region of its indigent animal and plant populace in a matter of months due to this voraciousness, and thus they are nomadic by necessity, stripping one area of its resources and moving on to the next, like locusts.

Saiyan Origins

The origin of the Saiyan race is shrouded in legend, but popular folklore holds they came to earth through a portal from another dimension centuries ago, after they exterminated all life in their own homeworld. The Saiyans would have turned on each other save the intervention of a powerful Wizard who sought to use them as his personal army, and offered them the salvation of a new world for their services. The Saiyans accepted the offer, but turned on the Wizard and slew him. They then fragmented into the seminomadic clans that to this day wander the earth. Other theories are that the Saiyans are a "joke" of Erythnuel, deity of slaughter, unleashed on the earth for no purpose other than to strip it barren of all life. Another theory is that Saiyans are a creation of Gruumsh One-Eye, who tired of the Orcs' constant defeats and sought to craft a mightier servitor race. (Orcs react very predictably to that theory.)

Relations with Other Races

The Saiyans are a powerful menace to every other race on the planet. All attempts to placate them and negotiate peacefully have ended in failure. Though they will accept temporary truces and limited trade, the Saiyans will ultimately turn on any neighboring civilization and attempt to annihilate it. Saiyans live in the outermost fringes of the wilderness, in the most inhospitable deserts, mountains and jungles, for one simple reason: whenever a clan attempts to move into a more settled area, every race in the region will unite against them. Giants are one of the few organized societies powerful enough to battle Saiyans, and when the two races engage in battle, it always ends in complete extremination of one side or the other. Not even orcs and goblinoids can stand them; indeed alliances of men, orcs and elves have not been unheard of in thorough attempts to wipe out an invading Saiyan clan.

Saiyan Characters

A Saiyan's favored class is Barbarian, and most Saiyan leaders are Barbarians. Although they have a natural affinity for harnessing ki, few Saiyans can forego their wild nature and take up the disciplined path of the monk. Saiyans have no Clerics, although a few Clans may have a Druid. They do not worship any Gods, as they have no care for what is not tangible. However, they venerate warriors of centuries past with an almost worshipful awe, and there is an ancient Saiyan legend of one warrior called the Super Saiyan, who arises every 1,000 years. It is believed that the Super Saiyan will be the one Saiyan who's purity of purpose will infuse his ki with ultimate power, and he will unite all Saiyan clans in a great holy war to exterminate all lesser races.

-Saiyans are Medium-Sized Humanoids.
-Saiyans possess the following statistical adjustments: +6 Str, +6 Dex, +2 Con, -2 Int, -2 Wis, -2 Cha. They are incredible athletes with superhuman power, and have the fortitude of bulls, but the brains and temperaments also.
-Saiyan base land speed is 30 ft.
-Racial Hit Die: A Saiyan has 4 levels of the "humanoid" class, granting him a +3 base attack bonus, 4d8 hit die, and base saving throws of Fort +4, Ref +1 and Will +1.
-Racial Skills: A Saiyan's four levels in humanoid give it starting skills equal to 5+(Int Mod)x4
-+3 Natural Armor
-DR 5/+1, Resistance 5 to Fire, Cold, Electricity, Acid and Sonic damage.
-Massive Strength: Treat a Saiyan's carrying capacity as if he were one size larger than he actually is.
-Powerful Build: When making an opposed roll that would be effected by the Saiyan's size (grapple/bull rush checks), treat him as one size larger if it is beneficial to the Saiyan. Saiyans can wield weaponry designed for large creatures.
-Climate Tolerant: Saiyans do not need to take Fortitude saves to resist nonlethal damage from extreme climates from -20 to 140 degrees farenheit.
-Natural Ki Use: Saiyans automatically gain the benefit of the Improved Unarmed Strike feat without having to take it. Their unarmed attacks are treated as magical for purposes of overcoming damage reduction.
-Ki Frenzy: Once per day, a Saiyan can enter a ki frenzy. He gains +2 str, +2 dex, +10 ft to his movement, and he may use a flurry of blows (-2/-2) on his full attack actions. A frenzy lasts three rounds + the saiyan's Con mod. As with a Barbarian's rage, the Saiyan cannot use any skills or feats which require concentration or focus while raging. A Saiyan becomes fatigued for the remainder of the encounter (-2 str/dex, can't run or charge) once his rage is expended.
-Starting Languages: Giant, Common. Bonus Languages: Undercommon, Terran, Goblin, Orc
-Favored Class: Barbarian
-ECL: +6. Treat a Saiyan character of 1st level as being 7th level for purposes of earning XP towards his next level.

New Spell: Artificial Moon

Level: Sor/Wiz 6
Components: V, S, MF
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: N/A
Target: An open sky
Duration: 1d4+4 hours
Saving Throw: N/A
Spell Resistance: No

This spell is known to only the most powerful Sorcerers of the Saiyan race (Wizardry is virtually unknown amongst them, but the occasional prodigy can be a Sorcerer.) The spell manifests as a glowing sliver of light hovering above the caster's outstretched hand. As the incantation (lit. in Saiyan, "burst and mix!") is spoken, the light springs skyward with a mighty crack, traveling into the upper reaches of the atmosphere instantaneously. There it explodes into a perfect sphere of silvery light, which is effectively a full moon. The artificial moon can be used during day or night, and any Saiyan who looks upon it transforms into an Oozaru state just as if he looked at a true moon.

This spell requires an unobstructed view of the sky, though weather conditions are irrelevant. If cast in a completely enclosed space, the spell dissipates.

Material Component: The spell requires the crushed remnants of a diamond worth 10,000 GP. Once the spell is cast, the diamond-dust disentegrates.

You forgot the following

Monologue(Ex): By talking about your past and explaining to your opponent why your are destined to win this battle for at least one minute you gain a +2 to all attack and damage rolls and +4 to all opposes beam struggle checks made agienst that opponent for 24 hours.

That'd make more sense if I gave them the ability to fire beams. ¬¬

That would be the class ability of the "Big Hair Monk", whos power level is directly proportional to the size of the user hair, hence why Krillian sucks so much.

I'm sorry, I know how well loved and ubiquitous the time-wasting flash-animation energy attacks were. Believe me when I say that editing them out was a hard decision made after hours of painstaking thought. >_>

Why not?

Because those aren't racial abilities of Saiyans. There's a high level Ki ball feat (as much as I dread it, at least they got rid of Omnislash) in PhB2 for monks anyway. In early Dragonball there isn't any ki balls anway.

I would give them a +2 bonus on balance checks due to the tail. Nothing major but I like races that have minor bonuses that make sense.

Never watched DBZ, didn't read the whole thing, but a +6 LA and 4 HD is a ECL of 10.

NOW the one thing it's missing is...

Extension of Time: A saiyan can, through means of various repetitions of fighting and monologues, extend a few minutes into several hours. The most noted example of this was seen in the infamous battle on Namek, when Son Goku managed to fight Frieza for a full two hours before the planet was destroyed, despite the fact that Namek exploded five minutes after the fight started.

Basically the same thing as bullet time. Low animation budget doesn't quite convey it.

-But a similar ability would be cool. Timecruch sorta thing.

Fresh and innovative as making fun of DBZ is, I posted this here so people could make suggestions on its balance, and if it works for its CR (which I targeted at 6 from the start.) I'm looking for advice, not jokes that got tired when I was in 8th Grade. If someone would actually read the stats and tell me what they think, I'd be happy to have your input.
