Update! There's only five days left to donate in! Please, if you can spare it, go to my website (http://felinuanbooks.webs.com), or the team page (http://my.imisfriendraising.com.au/personalPage.aspx?registrationID=278049) and donate now!

Hey Kiddo's. As your probably haven't heard by now, this year I'm going to be colouring my hair for the World's Greatest Shave event in Australia. Full details can be found on my website (http://felinuanbooks.webs.com).

Theres only one problem with my brilliant scam charitable act - I don't know which colour to pick! I've narrowed it down to five unthinkable options (and if you pick number three right of the bat, well done) - Yellow, Green, Red, Blue, and Pink - but it's up to you, the donators, to choose for me. So, when/if you make a donation, it will be towards the colour of your choice, the colour you want to see me dye my hair and walk around with for the next couple of weeks. The power is in your hands, so please don't pick pink.

So, right at the moment, I'm looking for donations, obviously - find out how you can donate via the above link - or, brave souls who would like to join me. You can sign up and join my team at http://www.worldsgreatestshave.com/ - the team name is The Team Formerly Known As Prince. Of course, if you're joining my you don't have to dye your hair like me, you're welcome to simply give it a spray for the day... chicken.

I'd really love to have some extra team members, but more important is donations. So once again, here's the link to my website (http://felinuanbooks.webs.com), which will tell you everything you need to know.

And once again... don't pick Pink!

The first donator will be given the wonderful prize of deciding our Team's Theme Song - and you may pick any song you wish, so long as the song does not include curse words, drug or alcohol references or is sexually explicit

edit: Paddyfool is a team member! Woo! We've effectively doubled membership!

A record time in reference getting! Well done, sir!

And thubby, there is still a month until go time. you could grow your hair a little before then. Or you could do it in reverse, and wear a coloured wig. Or if you just want to support, donation is also an option.

Arr, Cap'n Felix, permission to board?

EDIT

Arr, I be on yer crew whether ye want me or no, me old charitable shipmate ;-)

Moving on from piratespeak to the subject of leukaemia, may I suggest to anyone reading this that they might want to look into registering for bone marrow donation? Links: USA (http://www.marrow.org/HELP/Join_the_Donor_Registry/index.html); UK (http://www.blood.co.uk/pages/marrow_info.html); Australia (http://www.abmdr.org.au/). (For other countries, just google "bone marrow donor registration [country]" - it's what I did).

EDIT 2: For the record, my hair and beard are both up on the block, for whatever combination of dying and shaving the primary donor should specify, and photos will be provided of myself thus shorn in (legally accessible) London locations of the top three donors' choice.

Ha-ha! I should've known it was you! :smallamused: I think we're going to need photos of your hair and beard as current though, First Mate.

...Hey, you know what'd be awesome? We should try to get someone from every continent doing this. Except maybe Antarctica. We've got Australia and the UK down, just North America, South America, Asia and Africa to go... come on people, join up now!

Or, if you don't feel like joining up, donate! Colouring our hair is nothing if no one donates!

Just out of curiosity, how long will the dye last for?

Felixaar
2009-02-15, 03:41 AM
That depends. If I end up going with Red or Yellow, I can get permanent dye's, but Green, Blue or Pink dyes are typically manufactured as only last a week or two - However, I would be planning to keep it up for at least a month.

Tempest Fennac

Thanks for clarifying. How long do the perminant ones last for? I can't remember if it's a couple of months or if they last for longer.

Felixaar
2009-02-15, 03:50 AM
Depends on what you mean by lasts. A permanent dye will fade with time, depending on the quality of the brand it could be a month to several months, but the hair will never full revert to it's natural colour. Ofcourse, depending on how fast your hair grows it's only a matter of time before your roots start to show up in your original hair colour.

If you're considering a colour, keep in mind that you could always colour it again to something close to your original shortly after if you wanted to. Or you could just give your hair a spray, which only lasts till your next shower.

Thanks for telling me (I'm not taking part, but I was just curious about how perminant dye worked). Is there any way of getting it completely back to normal afterwards without dying it as close as possible to its original colour? Now that I think about it, once your hair grew to the point where your roots came through, wouldn't evidence that you dyed it vanish once you got a hair cut?

Shaving and then regrowing....

Felixaar
2009-02-15, 07:17 PM
Basically, yeah. There's no real way to revert already dyed hair back to your original colour.

Tempest Fennac
2009-02-16, 02:14 AM
Do you think you'll end up shaving it all off or will you just wait for non-dyed hair to come through before getting it cut normally when it gets too long?

It's good to see people doing this, I shaved my head last year and raised something like 200 dollars. I probably won't be doing it again this time around, my hair still isn't back to it's original length.

You don't vote for kings! hair colours!

Good to see you round tho bud.

Tem, depends on whether i like the colour or not. If so i will likely keep it, if not I will probably go back to black.

Hmm. If anyone feels like donating, nows the time.

What's that? You want some incentive?

Okay...

Good news, brother.
The elder in my household intends to donate to our cause.
She will spread news of this like a plague around her workplace, in case they decide to donate as well.
Must remember to mention in the morning that she can donate online. Must also remember she gets to pick our theme-song if she's the first to donate. Must start using personal pronouns at starts of sentences :smallfurious:

Aww, she rocks! Make sure to get her to choose a colour, along with anyone else who donates.

No, I cut it off almost two months ago now :smallfrown: no I have nothing but a scraggle of black hair atop m'head. Soon it will be, most likely, pink, and then hopefully I'll be able to revert to my natural dark brown. And grow it long, long!

This is a little different from fundraising... but if the mods wish to lock it they may. Since no one has in almost a month I dont think they will.
