Lightning flashes across the window as the Lightning Rail speeds down the track. The entire steerage cart is empty except for you and your companions. The Five Nations Express Comes to a slow stop in Wroat and four Guardsmen escorting a prisoner enter your cart. The House Orien Driver gets back into position and snaps the Lightning Reins and once more the Air Elemental pulls the train up to speed towards Sharn. The moon out tonight suddenly dissappears as the train enters a tunnel. A soft childs voice singing some elven tune wafts through the tunnel. In the dark, you hear the sounds of a scuffle from the opposite end of the cart. When the train finally emerges from the tunnel, moonlight floods the murder scene. In the flash of an instant, the murderer looks at you and smiles a wide grin right before disappearing out an open window. What do you do?

Die rolling can be done on this thread please spoiler it though.

The Shifter who has been sitting in one of the seats jumps up and takes a quick look at the slaughter.
"Shall we persue?" he asks, moving to the broken window and getting ready to jump. His features become more bestial and resemble those of a wolf. "Anyone with me?"

If anyone moves to follow Kral shifts and jumps out, trying to keep the fleeing figure in sight. If noone reacts he sits back down, looking ambarrassed.

The door to the next cart is locked from the inside. You quickly deduce that they didnt want a murderer running around. It looks like a sleeper cart and it is nighttime so you doubt anyone will answer.

You could detach the cart, that would most likely get them to stop or at least come back wondering what happened. (no roll required, just pull up the pin).

You riffle through the guards belongings and find a Wanted Poster and Guards Id Papers please add these to your belongings. And 5 gold pieces on each guard, if you decide to take it.

(Anyone with ranks in kno:local can make a check to see if they know anything about him as well any with levels in monk can make a int check. A monk with kno:local gets a plus 2 to his roll.)

You follow the well-worn trail as it leads down into a small crag. The moonlight dissappears behind a cloud and you are forced to feel your way through the crag when the moon comes back you come out of the crag and spot the monk's footprints as it heads back into the forest. The forest opens up once more and you are staring at a 4 foot tall wall overlooking an eerily lit graveyard. The stone watchmen of carved gargoyles would scare any but the hardiest of adventurers. There is large crypt on the opposite side with a light on in the second story (very large). You can also make out what looks to be two children playing with a toy just underneath the crypt. Turning to a sound on your left you just make out a figure off moving in a slow shuffling gait; the figure is not in the graveyard. What do you do?

Scent of Death lingers heavily on the air. The hunched figure turns towards you as you light the Sunrod. As it comes into the light in almost slow motion, you are horrified by the creature as you realize it is not alive, but rather a zombie of someone very dead. The creature points his hand at you and several other zombies climb out of the ground. The children in the meantime stop to watch the undead goings on. Anyone not watching the zombies sees a figure on top of the large crypt, but in the moonlight you cannot make out any features other then the red and purple robes that it is wearing and its moonlit white hair.

The zombies start towards you. There are 3 common zombies with one skeleton in the back that looks like it has cracks all over it.

You feel confident that if you jump or climb the wall then you wont have to fight the zombies and skeleton or you can take on the undead abominations. And it is never too late to tuck tail and run away. What do you do?

Ok, the zombies and the skeleton make their reflex saves and manage to stay up, but it is only a matter of time before they fall over.

@Simba - yes i rerolled and you did 7 points of damage - dr = 2 points of standing damage.

@Charl - You blast the same one that Simba did. The guy on the building is very far off as are the two children but they are in light of the torch and are not hard to miss.

@Rowan - Yes your weapon does considerable damage. The skeleton lunges at you, its claws glowing a strange crackling energy (spellcraft dc 13). You realize, being this close to it, that the cracks are not cracks rather they are ancient arcane writings. Spellstitched, an undead fused with the power of the arcane.

All three of the zombies fall flat down and prone. They get no further action (had to roll to move at kral rolled a 1-1 is the first time i actually rolled a zero, wow). The goblin is not so fortunate as the skeleton gets through her defenses and she takes a wopping 5 points of shock damage.

Kral stays in the background, watching the surroundings for danger.

The old man cackles, "eeheeheehee" in possibly the most irratatingly way possible. "I know exactly what and who are you dealing with it is my job to know.

The Monk walks
where chains are needed
does not stop even when heeded
by the light of the 12 moons
he brings about our dooms
where could he be at
none other then Xoriat

Now you will want to wonder is he running from you or leading you where he wants you to go?"

Elkhad mumbles: "Great, riddles." In what is obviously an attempt at sarcasm. He leaves the diplomacy to someone better qualified.

OK, I am going to roll knowledge religion for information on Xoriat, because it is definately known by followers of the Path of Light. If he succeeds the check (up to bone's discretion), read the second spoiler, if not, he just stands there looking puzzled.

Know Religion: [roll0]

damn, no ranks in that skill yet.

Paul turns white at the mention of Xoriat, his eyes narrow, and he speaks, "The Daelkyr... we need to catch up to him, NOW!"

There is a great chance that Elkhad knows of it as well. He is a follower of the path.

yah but it depends, do you have knowledge religion as a class skill? If not, I'm not sure if you can make the check.

Technically, I'm fairly certain it would be Knowledge (the planes) not Knowledge (religion) so I'm not sure anyone would get to make a check unless bornin says otherwise. Anyway, il-Yannah is concerned with Dal Quor, not Xoriat. Druids are the ones worried about Xoriat.

Since it's a knowledge check, if you don't have ranks it's just an Intelligence check and you can't learn anything you'd need a DC higher than 10 to find out unless bornin says otherwise.

This conversation should really be happening in the OOC thread.

Dusk

Dusk considers the old man's words.

"Hm. You make a good point, Elder. If he's leading us somewhere we'd best be prepared an ambush. If you don't mind me asking, who are you and how is it you came to reside in this lonely place?"

Diplomacy [roll0]
Sorry for the double post, but I wanted to seperate the in-game stuff from the OOC discussion. That, and you can't do roll in an edit. :smalltongue:

Edit: Hm. If someone else can hit an DC 10 Diplomacy, we can bump that to a 25 and really get some work done. :smallwink:

I don't care for your riddles old man, give us a straight answer, what are you talking about? What doom do you speak of? And mainly, how do you know this? This old man knows more than he's willing to tell, and his riddles are simply madness. What could he be hiding.

borninbones

The old man looks up at you with tears in his eyes. "I am the madness yet to come, the dead yet to be, the nothing never expected and never coming. Only by YOUR hand do I live and breathe. Only by your hand does the madness end. I am no one of consequence. You have a monk to catch. Goodbye ghosts yet to be. I will come to you again when the time is nigh when the 13th moon scares the skies. Look to the mark." The old man falls over and snores, out cold.

Any with one rank in kno:planes knows of Xoriat as do any Kalashtar.
Beyond that you only know it is the place of dreams.

Elkhad

"Ok, well, the only thing I really understood about that was 'Xoriat.'" Elkhad's tone changes when he pronounces that name. It gets more serious, full of fearsome respect. "And something about the moons. Anyone else understand any of that?"

Rowan Arquest

Paul

"... The madness... I don't think he could tell us the total of his knowledge if he wanted to. You can't explain something if you can't understand it... even if you have knowledge of it.

disregard my knowledge check. messed my Ebberon knowledge up :smalltongue:
