What are your 5 favorite supplements for 3.5. XPH and UA don't really count given they're also in the SRD
My list
In order
Magic of Incarnum
Tome of Magic

No order:

If I DMd more, Dungeondscape would be in there.

2009-02-24, 11:10 AM
Monte Cook's Iron Heroes
Iron Heroes Companion
Midnight Campaign Setting, 2nd edition
Conan D20 (even though it is inferior to theold Gurs Version in every single regard, it is still an exceptional well-made D20 game)
Crown of Shadows (The best D20 adventure in English I know of)

I was never really impressed with the mediocre quality of WOTC source books. They just aren't up to my standars, and I always found that the better 3rd party products were much better thought out and made than the "original" books.

Dungeonscape
Tome of Battle
Magic Item Compendium
Races of the Wild

Mine's pretty much the same as Draz.

Here's mine, though only with the advice of my peers:

Spell Compendium
Magic Item Compendium
Rules Compendium
Player's Handbook II
Dragonlance Campaign Setting (the Knight of Solamnia prestige classes kick the paladin's tail from here to next Thursday!)

Who_Da_Halfling
2009-02-24, 11:59 AM
Magic Item Compendium
PHB II
Complete Arcane
Complete Scoundrel
Complete Warrior

I guess it shouldn't really count if I haven't really used more than 5 supplements?

I have actually used Minis and Cityscape, and those are good but there's not really that much there to use (I used a few feats and spells from City and classes from Mini).

Eh, may as well pitch in.

Tome of Battle: Book of Nine Swords: I love me the wushu, no questions asked. Except Crusaders.

Magic Item Compendium: I haven't even read it all the way through, and I love it.

3.5 Player's Guide to Faerun: Self-explanatory, really.

Forget the Dragon Compendium, I'll just say Dragon Magazine, period. Takes up half of my bookshelf as is.

Plot and Poison (Green Ronin's Drow sourcebook), if only for the looks on my PCs' faces...

So, ToB gets mondo-love while the XPH gets almost none. The 2 are normally touted in the same breath and by the same people as fixing D&D, so I have to wonder why the difference. Is it just the SRD or something? All Completes are not created equal, but Compendiums are. PHB II is apparently more popular than the PHB, while 3rd party gets nothing.

Eldariel

Indeed, the difference is the SRD. One has material you can get for free, the other doesn't. Mind you, I'd still place XPH up there, but it wouldn't be in the first 5 books I'd buy if I had to start all over again as I'd buy the ones I can't access for free (easily) first.

My number one favorite is Tome of Magic, followed by Tome of Battle, then (in no particular order), Complete Scoundrel, Heroes of Horror, and the PHB II.

Might have something to do with the way that the OP implied that anything in the SRD wasn't eligible for this particular survey. I would have voted XPH if he hadn't said that -- and obviously everyone finds the PHB useful, but few consider it a "supplement."

Let's see.

Expanded Psionics Handbook
Spell Compendium
Complete Adventurer
Complete Arcane
Magic of Incarnum

I have to express love for PHB2, Tome of Battle, Tome of Magic, and Fiendish Codex 2, but you said five.

No particular order, the 3.5 books I have enjoyed the most and gotten the most use out of:

Player's Handbook II
Magic Item Compendium
Spell Compendium
Unearthed Arcana
Dungeon Master's Guide II

The Glyphstone
2009-02-25, 07:25 AM
-Expanded Psionics Handbook
-Tome of Battle
-Spell Compendium
-Lords of Madness
-If 3.0 material that never got updated is eligible, the Stronghold Builder's Guidebook. If not, either Draconomicon or Libris Mortis, can't decide.

Frostburn
Heroes of Horror
Races of the Wild
Lords of Madness
Expeended Psionic Handbook

And I don't even ever have psionics in my games. I just use the mechanics as basis for my nature-wizard class.

XPH and UA don't really count given they're also in the SRD

Also, we're talking about favorite, not best, and while I agree that XPH is a good book, I don't personally use it that much. I imagine others think the same way.

Apparently some people love the expanded psionics handbood, and unearthed arcana more than they love following instructions. Which is great, i just made them excepted because they were in the SRD and therefore you don't need the book. Though in all fairness i own both. I am just amused by this.

In order of appreciation:

Lords of Madness
Lords of Madness
Lords of Madness
Lords of Madness
Expanded Psionics Handbook

Seriously, though:

Lords of Madness (This reinforces the superiority of aberrations as prime villain material)
Heroes of Horror (Not a fan of the taint mechanic, but other than that, good creepy stuff)
Libris Mortis (Such a funny book)
Fiendish Codex II (Can't say I didn't enjoy this, always been a fan of devils)
Complete Divine/Champion (There's something about those two books I just love, don't ask me what it is)
