I started a thread similar to this a few months ago, but ran into some problems with my computer, so nothing came of it. Now it's back in line and I have the same question:

I'm planning to reinstall the entire Baldur's Gate series: BT1 +Tales of the Sword Coast + BG2 +Throne of Bhaal, to relive some good memories, but I need to know how to fix it all so it's actually, you know, playable. Aside from just the regular fixes, I've also heard there's some way to make the Bg1 picture larger, like in BG2, and to make the Bg1 pathfinding less horrible.

Could someone give me some pointers with all this? Oh, and as the above text may indicate, I'm horribly inept with computers. I don't even really understand the terminology of anything more complex than "Put disk in, install game, play game". So, well, just explain things to me like I was an idiot

And if it makes any difference, I'm using the five-CD version of BG1, and the four-CD version of Bg2, with each expansion on a separate disk.

You wanna play BG1 with BG2 graphics, use EasyTutu (http://www.usoutpost31.com/easytutu/). I never used it, so I can't advise you on installation for it, but I think you should find everything you require in the intalment package. As for patches...

Baldurdash (http://www.baldurdash.org/) is a good choice for beginner, since it's not hard to install and has everything you need. There are others bugfixes and patches, but right now, I can't remember any. You want better help, go to some pages that have more and better community, dedicated to RPG and Infinity engine games. I advice Sorcerers place forums (http://www.sorcerers.net/forums/index.php). Not that community here isn't nice or helpful, but those guys really know business.

Mordokai gave some good advice... but I found that Tutu isn't the best combo program, IMO. Baldur's Gate Trilogy (http://www.shsforums.net/index.php?autocom=downloads&showfile=54) This is what you want. BGT lets you seamlessly play through BG1 all the way into BG2 and onto Throne of Bhaal. It also updates BG1+Tales of the Sword Coast to BG2 graphics, rules, and AI, making BG1 playable.

If you want to learn more, Spellhold Studios (http://www.spellholdstudios.net/) is a better site than Sorcerer's Place in some ways. The community is excellent (note that Sorcerer's Place is great for mods too, but the community isn't as good, IMO).

Tutu or BGT, Sorcerer's or Spellhold, it's hard to go wrong. I'd advise you go to Spellhold, ask around, get some more detailed advice. They can help you more than we can. :smallwink:

The guys at Spellhold are tons of help and seem to know the Infinity engine far better than anyone not involved in coding it.

I'd second EasyTutu. I've nothing profound to add except that I've played with it before and it gave no troubles whatsoever. Recommended

The BG1 NPC Project isn't compatible with Trilogy, which might be a point against it.

And what's that?
Oh, and I've gone and installed easytutu. With my, um, grasp of computers I'll go with the one with 'easy' in the title.

Um, and now that I think about it, I didn't patch BG1 before running tutu. Is that going to be a problem? Is there some reason a patch won't work now that I've messed with it?

EasyTutu is awesome. Install the banter pack as well. Awesome!

Otherwise yes, you should have updated fully before converting with Tutu. Ditto for BGII

I've no idea what impact not patching would have. I'd advise to uninstall and start again to be on the safe side though

And what's that?

It's a mod for Tutu that puts BG2-style party banter into BG1. Bearing in mind there are 25 NPCs in BG1, that's a lot of dialogue.

Dude, wherever you got that from, it's wrong. I played through BGT with over a dozen mods, including the NPC Project (which I recommend, although I find the romances annoying as hell), and had no problems at all. Not even crashes or anything like that.
(Apart from bugs that can clearly be attributed to the mods themselves, that is.)

There are some problems which screw up traveling time, though. It took me 24 hours from the Bridge to Waukeen's Promenade, for example. However, while it takes some time, this can be fixed using a program like Infinity Explorer, even by someone with no actual experience in this field, like me.

Ah. Well, I did install TotSC before Tutu, so I guess I'm safe.

Well, I'm gonna go kill some gibberlings and ogres. And then I'll play Baldur's Gate.

Ah. If that's the case, they must have reworked the Project for BGT compatibility since I looked it up last.
