If Vaarsuvius teleports home only to find h** mate and children killed, and is unable to resurrect them (no holy magic under the Soul Splice, and it's doubtful whether V ever learned the spell).

or

If Vaarsuvius teleports home to find that h** master just happened to be near V's home at the time, and already took care of the dragon? It seems nicer, because V's family is still alive, but then V will have sold h** soul for nothing... and even if V is only stuck in the afterlife with the demons for a little while, V's decision may well have caused a permanent alignment change that would separate h** from h** family in the afterlife.

Unless the dragon already soul binded the children and escaped (in which case V would be in a terrible position soul splice or no), the first is harmless in the long term. Whiskers McThorbugger could bring back the children even if V himself couldn't.

The second one, while a slap to the face, wouldn't be too bad... V's pride cant be faulted if someone intervenes on their own without him having to ask for help...

...except the fact that his master will have fought his battle, and if the souls have any impact on V's thought processes it will result in a wizard's duel. As much as I hate the idea, I can see this going Anakin style all too easily...
