Has anyone thought that

Vīs assumption about the archfiends getting hir soul for a certain time AFTER hir is dead is completely based on... well... nothing

s/he is the one who talks about the control beginning after hir dead

The archfiends could get hir soul anytime before, during and after hir dead. The verbal contract donīt says otherwise; even if V thinks so

Quite a few people have thought of that.

Many people also think the deal might have something to do with this strip. (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0380.html)

I guess we'll just have to see if V starts acting funny near one of the Gates. :smalltongue:

As has been pointed out before, Sabine did not know of the gates when she sent the party off into the wilderness.
And she did so at the orders of Nale, not her fiendish masters. Nale has no confidence the starmetal is actually there, and expects the party to be killed or seriously bothered, not led down a long, overelaborate path.

That does not mean that she was not unknowingly used, or simply did not know the whole picture.
