NOW UPDATED 10:37 PM EST, 3/23/09

INTRODUCTION - Please read!
A non-OOTS style, non-interactive, non-written or drawn by a talented writer or artist comic.

You see, when I said it was interactive, I really just meant that you can tell me whatever you want, and I will promptly ignore you.

No, I don't own a dictionary.

Suggestions are always welcome, however.

Anyway, I'm just going to come out and say it. This comic will most likely be ridiculous, cheesy, and badly drawn.

It is also mine, so if anyone but me calls it ridiculous, cheesy, and badly drawn, I will have no choice but to fight them.

It's not that I'm so overly sensitive or defensive of my work, but, well, honor demands it, and who am I to overrule centuries of pointless bloodshed?

And now, without further ado (actually, there are four words left in this sentence, not including what I'm currently typing in parentheses or the title of the comic, so that's still a little bit of ado left, I guess, but I hope you are willing to overlook this transgression against your expectations and continue on, brave reader), I present to you...

EXÜBERANCE!

Okay, okay, I lied again. There's still just a tad more ado to be had. I'd just like to thank you for your time (seriously, this has been a pretty long-winded introduction, and it's not even over!) and to beseech you to continue reading, even if it's terrible, so that I can feel validated in my existence and continue churning out half-baked ideas before a disinterested and comic-jaded audience. Deal?

And that's all the ado I can manage today, so, here goes...

[Comic was originally here - scroll down to see]

Also: the first comic is somewhat wall-of-texty, and I realize that. I've got our best moose-wranglers by day / wall-of-text-tearing-downers by night on the job.

Seriously, though, there are a couple comics in the "prologue" section that may have a lot of text, but just bear with me here. It'll all be over soon. And I mean that in a good way, not in an "OH GOD OH GOD WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE WAAAGH" way.

Please excuse the terrible jokes contained within this post, I'm nervous and/or an idiot.

The second comic will most likely be posted in an hour or so...I just want to see if I can get some attention with the intro first.

[Second comic now up - scroll down to see]

Never trust a tree.

You accidentally a whole bottle of Coke?

In any case, I'm sorry that you feel that way, I suppose. If it helps, I can give you a backrub. No?

Seriously, though, it would help/be nice if instead of just saying "I'MA LEAVE!" you actually posted some sort of advice or suggestion or even just clarified as to what exactly is confusing you. I mean, I understand that the circumstances of Charles' appearance in the clearing are a bit fuzzy, but they really haven't been explained yet. He's confused too. If you mean that you are confused about what is actually going on in the comic, as opposed to the circumstances...then that's a problem, I guess, although I have no idea why you would be confused in that regard. It's pretty clear what's going on — he wakes up, talking worm says hi, he talks with talking worm. :smallconfused:

I really don't mean to be harsh, but constructive criticism > all.

Give it time; there's only been 3 shortish comics so far.

Thanks for the benefit of the doubt. :)

The next comic is actually a big exposition comic, so hopefully that will illuminate things a bit.

I entirely understand and agree. I mean, I find the comic odd so far, and not entirely sensical, but I figure it will become less confusing in future comics. Departing from a thread is best done silently or else with a productive explanation of why you didn't enjoy it.

I must say, I do like the art so far! All in all, the comic is strange, but I will keep coming back to read tish for at least a little while (possibly very regularly for quite some time, depending on how it goes!).

Yay, thanks! Anyway, the joke is supposed to be that the worm just assumes that the sultan is evil because it's a stereotype/cliché. But if I didn't quite get that across...well, a non-sequitur is always good. :smalltongue:

P.S. Sultans are people too! :smallfrown:

In any case, the whole comic is meant to be bordering on the absurd. My original title was "Absurdity Abounds." Actually, my first title was "If on a summer's night a procrastinator dreams of floating castles in dimensional space," but I thought that that was a bit too pretentious/long/ridiculous. :smalltongue:

Other contenders included "Absurdly Dreaming" and "Hamster Ball Challenge." :smalltongue:

Man, this comic has so many layers. Is he saying he woke up literally? As in he left a state of physical sleep, or did he wake up figuratively? As in he became aware of the struggles of mankind, finally gaining comprehension through the allegory of riding into town on a giant worm.

It can also be a mixture of physical and figurative wakefulness. Perhaps while awake he was a terrible person, a sexist, racist, unimaginative man, who hated life. In his dream, as pictured here, he is traveling into "town", a place of general traffic, on a "worm", obviously a phallic symbol if anything. This action represents his blatant misogynistic belief of women as nothing but dirty whores. He makes that realization, as well as the realization that he is traveling with disdain for an ethnic stereotype.

His being on top of the "Worm" is a product of his realizing that his parents were to blame for his upbringing, and when he awakes he will disown his family and embrace a new life of happiness and joy with all the wonders of the world.

...

Layers.
@V: That is what I was going for, yes.

EDIT: Oh, wait, nevermind. I just got ninja'd by the truth. I guess it really is just a one-off absurdist comic, not an intellectual commentary on modern life and the human condition, my mistake.

7 tests in one week?

That sounds brutal. But then you think about it and realize all the classes that have tests won't assign homework. And tests are better than homework. At least in my opinion. :smallwink:

We still had HW in math and language.

Hey Sneak. I just want to say, good work on the the comic. It's funny, and it's got a neat art style. This might just be the only webcomic on this site that I'll bother to keep reading.

But I think it needs MORE umläuts!

In any case, thanks. Means a lot, coming from someone as creative as you.

Tests make no workload change whatsoever, unless the teacher also gives out a mandatory/graded study guide.

...

Unless it's a language class.

Wait, Crimson... How do you have two tests in math in sixth grade? Multiple standardized math classes don't become available until after Algebra 2, which is (supposedly) an 11th grade course... Though it was still ridiculously easy

EDIT: As for the comic, I'm loving it. It doesn't make much sense, but... It's funny! I'm interested to see where it goes; will they kill the sultan and his pink robot army...? We shall soon see!

Also, an editing tip in case everyone missed it (I don't have time to chug through the second page): Comic #8: It says "I rode on the back of what seemed to be the back of a giant worm" or something along those lines. It should probably be "I rode on the back of what seemed to be a gaint worm" or "I rode on what seemed to be the back of a giant worm".

One was a quiz.

One was a quiz.Not. A. Test.

Big difference.

Also, why the hell would a teacher assign a quiz on the same week as a test...?

A quiz to prepare for the test. Quite logical actually.

Yep. I've got a quiz in math tomorrow and a test on Thursday.

Anyway, there will be an update tonight. It might be fairly late, but definitely before midnight EST.

Also, thanks Tired N' Drowzy! And thanks for catching that mistake...it's fixed now. I just noticed that in the fixed version I split an infinitive, but eh, I'm not changing it again. :smalltongue:

Anyway...sorry for the double post, but there's a new update, so...

Sorry I don't have an update ready yet—like I said, this is the week from hell. I'm almost done with a new comic, and I have the scripts for the next few done already, but I dunno if there will be a comic posted before I go to bed or not.

Thanks for having patience. I have my last two tests tomorrow—after that, I'm home free, and I'll have a lot more time for webcomickry.

...SIKE!

I've also decided to stop editing the title of the thread with updates. Too much effort. :smalltongue:

Anyway, I promise two comics tomorrow—we'll finally be out of the stupid forest soon!

Also, I'm sorry if this comic seems a little unpolished—I'm not quite happy with it, but I just wanted to get it out so we could keep moving forward. Just bear with me here. It'll all be ok, I promise.

Hopefully. :smalltongue:

Alright...thanks to DD's swanky new sig, I've decided to continue the comic. Because I really need to teach myself some self-discipline (and improve my webcomickry kills).

So expect a comic later today.

I just figured I'd bump the thread to raise some awareness and such. :)

OK, I thought I'd just pop in with an update. It's getting late tonight, and I still don't have the comic done. What I do still have, however, is lots of work. I hate to do this, seeing as my track record is always so bad, but it looks like I'll have to put off the new comic until (hopefully) tomorrow.

I know that this may not look like it bodes too well for the life of this comic, but I promise I will get it to you.

I have the exact script planned out and everything. I just have to draw it.

Sorry again, folks.
