Captain Jim Morris and the Hippocampus:
Out in the backwaters of the Empire near the orcland isles, and between Yuan and the Evil Empire, is a former Yuanese province on a tropical jungle isle. It is on the equator, dubbed by the imperial shipping companies:
The Southern Trade City.

The peasant population here is heavily Yuanese, but has a diverse mix of humans, and some orckin. Most other humanoids are extremely rare. The elf and gnome in your group saw lots of angry glares as they passed through it. All of you arrived in some manner, some of you were already working in this bustling tropical city, others arrived by ship. It was humid and hot here, most of Carmen Isle was jungle and wild. Carmen Isle's main export was furs, fur-tappers are commonly seen with their goods. Gambling and Drugs have made this a popular place for sailors, and other shady types. The exotic fruits also drew nobles to use this city as a retreat, so you never knew who's ship might be arriving on any particular day.

The city is relatively low in magic, since most wizards and priests don't like this distant jungle province on the edge of the empire. Some parts of the world have whole universities of Wizards. {OOC- Some of your PCs may be from less magical areas, and I think it can be fun for some to be new to the idea of whole cities of spell-casters.... not here though. :smallcool:}

The Southern Trade City had most conveniences of an imperial city, even with a few magic shoppes and a planar brothel; {expensive prices and only minor items in this city}. It had also formed a council, and though run mostly by evil rich dudes, was one of the few democratic cities in the empire.

This city was now all behind you and any experiences there, became your last day in human lands. Now, you were on a small saling ship headed to the edge of the Orcland Bay.

The paying captain that got you all out here was a former low-ranking officer in the empire. His full story was that a bunch of orc-pirates were holding his daughter as a slave. Her passenger ship in transit to the main part of the empire was taken at sea. Slavery is common in the empire; nobles are exempt and their ships get through, however orcs don't often follow rules, especially with middle-class citizens.

This Captain is still a loyal imperialist, but since the empire did nothing to help him find his daughter, he retired. He cashed in on an early pension, sold everything, bought a fast boat, and hired a crew to get his daughter back. The small clipper is called the Hippocampus.

Unfortunately, the Captain could only afford skilled rookies, but for starters he paid 500 gold pieces up front to outfit yourselves while you were in the Southern Trade City.
{OOC- You can now retro-purchase some minor magic items-core only. The Captain will get you a temporary discount that will allow you to buy these items at DMG prices.} Upon completion he'll pay you 1000 gold pieces each, in addition to a full share of orc spoils, with perhaps a small donation to the crew of his ship.
In case of adventurer death, the captain would pay the adventurers benefactor or organization the gold due, as well as some life insurance to help with the pain of loss.

The small temple of Tyr was already getting a healthy donation, for sending some of its best and brightest followers.

Already, you felt the low budget involved, as the small sailing ship had a minimal crew, and only a big area in the hull to sleep in, which you shared with the crew and food goods. Captain Jim Morris was no ship captain, and had earned the title as an infantry man in past orc wars. His crew was well trained, and he had a navigator, Kip, that he bunked with in the small deck cabin. Kip truly ran the ship and merely interpreted Jim's orders. It was very crowded on the ship with few places to walk, without getting in the way of the crew.

The orc-pirate that had kidnapped Captain Jim's daughter supposedly lived on an island beyond the patrol of the empire in Orcland waters. Thousands of scattered dots of lands litter the great Orcland bay between the Yuan and Evil Empire. Captain Jim and Kip have spent months gathering information on this orc-pirate slaver, known as Folgor Batakar.

He plans to sail to the backside of the isle at night and drop the adventure-crew. His ship is small and fast, and should be able to outrun all but the fastest skifs. This is Captain Jim's reason for such a small boat. Several oars were on the deck in case things became serious and wind wasn't help. It will be a cautious 3 day trip there.

Jim was a strong, dark man with a beard who wore chain mail on his ship! Kip was a dark imperial like Captain Jim, but clean-cut with short hair, and wore a suit of leather. Most of the crew were Yuanese men. There was one half-orc on the crew, but the rest were human. Captain Jim doesn't seem to have the prejudices that many in the empire have, even with all the orc wars he fought.

{OOC-
Welcome to the Orcland Border; I decided to get this thing rolling. You are all in route. Please post an intro or description. You will be able to roleplay a little, anything you say will likely be heard by the whole ship as it is so crowded with only one little stall below decks for potty-time. I reward roleplay, but will move things along. Feel free to attempt minor retros, that I might approve.}

Tark shifted uncomfortably, he wasn't used to be around this many people in such close quarters. And he still felt bad for taking the man's money, when it was now obvious he was on such a tight budget. Tark had tried to return the money many times while still in the city as it seemed the poor man was very worried about his daughter and was running low on cash.

He glanced around at the rest of his group and also at the others who he didn't know too well to see if any of them needed a hand with anything. Anything to relieve him from this boredom.

With a low charisma, Tark prefers action rather than talking, he will prefer any mundane task over conversation

Vladis Nox

Vladis stands completely at the front of the ship looking out unto the water, to one who didn't know better, he could be thought to be a statue carved out of obsidian if only it weren't for his garments blowing in the wind.

Canidale thanked the captain briefly, While I do not require much in the way of payment for hunting down this orc, I gladly put this money towards tools to better accomplish your task.

I'm going to blow my load on a nice MW mighty composite longbow +1, at 500 gold, and turn in my old longbow, buying an orcbane arrow with the proceeds.

Once his purchases are done, Canidale checks over the clipper, not liking the looks of the half-orc crewmember. [roll0] (search check).

Garen, always happy to help a patron of the arts (especially when there is a chance for daring deeds):Thank you very much for the money for supplies. I will be sure to meet you at the ship as soon as I am outfitted properly.

Garen purchased 1 MW Rapier, 1 mage armor potion, and an Everburning torch, pocketing the remaining 20 gold

Tark begins to feel better as the music starts, this is more like it, he thinks and relaxes back, pulling a bottle of wine from his pack. Nothing like some music and booze to forget your surroundings.
He relaxed back into the coil of rope, taking a swig from the bottle and then offering it to the others.

Dorrem (aka Drum) is pleased that someone with military experience is in charge of this mission. He sees the 500gp as an order to equip himself properly. Thank you, Captain. I will report for duty after a quick supply run.

Dorrem bought a MW Light Mace, some smokesticks and alchemist's fires (bane of sailing ships, everywhere).

On board ship, Dorrem acquaints himself with the routine chores of the crew. He admires the hammocks and wonders if he could adapt them to use in forest terrain; not only for sleeping, but possibly as hidden supply caches.

Dorrem is impressed with the bard's music. He shyly taps out the beat using just his thumbs on a handy barrel. He nods appreciatively when Tark offers the wine, accepts the bottle, and then passes it along.

Rigmund may be a holy man, but he never turns down an opportunity to improve his cash flow situation. The priest glides off in the direction of the city, and, after haggling with a feisty Yuanese merchant for a few moments, returns with an armful of scrolls just before departure.

He acquired 2 Scrolls of Cure Light Wounds, 1 Scroll of Know Direction, and 3 Scrolls of Purify Food and Drink.

Aiko

With a polite smile and a modest tap on the shoulder, Aiko spoke with every Yuanese crew member aboard the Hippocampus. Her words had a child-like fascination with the ship itself, and she showed just as much expertise. The questions she asked were often easily answered. These brief encounters were always short enough to not interrupt the crew, and she always quietly wandered away after getting her answer.

The young woman of barely five feet often clung to the sides of the ship. She wasn't staring off into the sea, but rather turning her back on those around her. The dark haired girl cared little for conversation. Always surreptitiously, her brown eyes found her next target, and she patiently waited until they were near. It was anywhere between a few minutes to an entire hour before she would ask a different crew member another innocent question. By the time she was done, her pocket was fifty gold pieces lighter.

Aiko had gently dropped coin into each of the sailor's pockets as they went about their duties. She wordlessly enjoyed the singing, but chose to focus on keeping an eye on those she had helped. The nineteen year old wanted to see how their captain treated them, and wanted to assure that no one tried to pickpocket the people she played patron to. When a wine bottle being passed around came to her, she waved it on, purposefully taking a mouthful from her waterskin. Drinking wine in a hot temperature on a mission was not only unwise, but unprofessional.

Skill Rolls:

Throughout the journey, Aiko has been subtly slipping gold pieces into the pockets of the Yuanese crew members (male or female) in the hopes that the extra payment might make their lives easier (Sleight of Hand check). She's hiding this small agenda behind apparently being interested in the ship itself (Bluff check), but she really couldn't care less about their vessel. Now she's just keeping an eye on those crew members (Spot check).

Many people assumed that, due to Rigmund's girth and jolly disposition, that he did not pay attention to his surroundings. But from the moment he clambered aboard the ship, he noticed the way things were run. The ship's mate, a slight dark man of the Empire, seemed to manage all of the operations of the ship himself. Rig rather suspected that the reason for this was Captain Jim Morris's melancholy at having lost his daughter. He prayed to Tyr, that merciful God above, for the opportunity to help rescue the child from the clutches of the half-orc.

Rigmund decided to spend his time doing something constructive. The crew members who were aboard looked like a promising source of information. He begins to approach them, one by one, with a big grin on his face and a clay jug filled with gold coins in his outstretched hand.

I want to take an automatic 10 on a Gather Information check to find out more about the orcs -- anything that the crew can tell me. I am also spending 30 gold pieces to help out.

Olaf clutches the railing with unsteady hands. He has never been to the sea before and even the gentle bobbing of the vessel causes him discomfort. Every once in a while he manages to leave the railing and stagger around the deck to chat with the other hired helpers and offer encouragement wherever it might do good. When he hears from the captain about the addition to the reward, he tries to curtuously bow and say: "I thank you, skipper. I promise that these funds will be put to good use in our pursuit." Another surge of sickness hits him when standing up again, stifles the last words and forces him to retreat to the railing once again.

Not much time to spend here. I'll get you a list of my new equipment later.

Garen made sure to keep an eye on everything going on around him while he was singing. He hadn't been traveling around and not picking up some of the things that could happen. Gauging his fellow, obviously non-crew members, he was able to make out a large man standing at the prow wearing some sort of jackal mask, a woman talking to just the Yuanese sailors, a man passing around a bottle of wine and an obviously sick paladin. He was not entirely sure where the rest of the group was because he was focused on singing.

Vladis Nox

As the bard continued singing he couldn't help but to hum along, for it had been many weeks since he had been in his motherland where there was almost a nightly celebration involving song and dance. "This quest may not be so bad after all" he quietly spoke to himself. For anyone who happened to hear him, his voice was one or so octaves well below the average human male. When the bottle of wine finally got around to him he gladly accepted. "Thank you, friend" With that the lower half of the Jackal mask opened and he partook of the wine, and passed it along, closing the mask once more.

When the wine reached Garen, he took a break form singing to take a swig and pass on the bottle. He then took a big drink of water, his throat being slightly parched from singing. He noticed that the man at the prow actually was wearing a mask and did not in fact have his face painted. He also noticed the man had extremely dark skin. He thought to himself I wonder where he is from. I bet he has some amazing stories to tell. I'll need to remember that.

Tark smiles slightly as the wine is passed around, nodding to anyone who thanked him.
When the virtually empty bottle returns to him he puts the cork back in.
He then gets up and stretches, turning around to look out over the sea.
He glances over at Olaf, who is releasing his breakfast into the waves.
He quickly looks back out to sea, now trying to hold down the contents of his own stomach.

Aiko

Aiko frowned, not quite able to make sense of the jovial man now speaking with the various crew members. Had it been a scene on dry land, she might have thought the fat man was forcing them to pay a tax, his jug yearning to collect. But this far out in the ocean, without the official emblems of the empire anywhere on him, made that unlikely. She eyed the scene curiously, not certain to deem him until one of the crew took from his jug. Her eyes went wide then, in both surprise and alarm.

The girl in black garb had her alarmed attention diverted only by the slushed, choking sound of someone throwing their previous meal overboard. The ailing man – or was he only a boy? – was also at the side of the ship, although several paces away. Aiko slowly approached the blond haired man that was suffering from sea sickness while she also tried to keep track of the tall benefactor with a black beard. When she arrived next to the stranger with a longsword at his side, she offered the brown waterskin she drank from.

“Water mixed with tea leaves,” she said, in a voice that was almost a whisper. “It has no taste, and should ease your stomach.”

Orcland Seas:

All of you had plenty of time to make purchases before you left, so most of you were looking new and spiffy. That clean smell still lingering. The small ship was fast, and the 12 man crew worked well together keeping the big sail taut. Only 8 sailors worked at any one time. The 4 off-duty sailors would go below decks to avoid the crowded main deck.

The sailors mostly avoided you guys, and won't even say much when you got in the way. They knew that you guys had good reason to be there, and they just didn't want to involve themselves with your jobs.

The Navigator Kip, will walk up to Vladis seeing ebony-skinned man look like a god at the prow. "While yer there... Keep an eye out... reefs rise up, off old charts, and of course, anything that looks dangerous. Captain says you're pretty good at keeping an eye out."

The Captain will appreciate any attempt to not take the money, but will insist you take it. To Canidale he will respond, "Thatta boy! You got the idea. I don't know all your specialties, but anything you can get to help yourself is great!" Canidale will notice that the half-orc is mostly a rope and labor guy. He is thin for an orc, and the crew seems to have no problem with him. His name is Aguella, on his hip he has a club. He is oblivious to Canidale's suspicions and doesn't seem bothered by the elf or gnome.

Garen the bard inspires the crowded crew on the clipper. All the men enjoy the singer's smooth voice. Those looking at Captain Jim will see a smirk cross his pleased face. Those who've known him for even a short time know his love of Wine, Women, and Song. When Tark passes the wine, Captain Jim only says, "Keep it under the limit, boys. He will partake. It won't last very long. The Captain will get an expensive bottle from his own collection and send it around when Tark's is empty.
Garen will be able to tell the crew from the specialists quickly. Mostly because the crew wore navy colored jumpsuits, common to poor sailors in the area.

Captain Jim clearly is clueless as a sea captain, and Kip has to correct him a few times on the first day out. Captain Jim's control deck is tiny, and it is mostly a seat for him to steer above his deck cabin. Only Olaf and Rigmund were allowed to view the boat from the control deck. He was happy to have the holy men near. Though not so much Olaf, once he sees how green the paladin gets at sea.

Aiko's many conversations will be quite noticeable about the ship. About of the middle first day the sailors begin to find Aiko's gold coins on them. When it starts to become an epidemic the happiness changes to a hilarious search for treasures. They all assume it to be Captain Jim, and thank him profusely throughout the day, much to his confusion. Aiko will become quite popular with the men in their own right. Their Yuanese isn't as good as Aiko's fluency. Regardless, they enjoy talking to Aiko in their grandfather's tongue. She will also get the feel that Captain Jim is a good and kind leader, almost to a fault: as Aiko witnesses the wine bottle being passed while on duty. The crew though new to him, like him, but secretly view Kip as the ship's captain. {OOC- Drum and Canidale will spot Aiko slipping the crew gold coins.}

Rigmund will know some of this history already, but the orcs have been plaguing the empire in this region for eons. Between Yuan and the Evil Empire, orc pirates rule. Valuable trade passes from Yuan and to it, ships full of wealth and goods. This orc, Batakar, is a mighty warrior, but truly is a small time pirate. Not like the Sea Barons or Pirate-Kings that rule regions of the empire's seas. This would relieve Rigmund some, for there was only a limited number of troops that Batakar could muster if the slave extraction became dangerous. Gold will get many people talking, but most will try to keep their nose to the grindstone, and Rigmund will have to talk to the guys on break about this stuff.

OOC- Just a note when adding new money. Act as if the bonus of 500gp was added to the start total, so no losses will be incurred by this one time special entry offer. :smallwink:

Garen noticed the poor man who had spent most of his time on the boat evacuating his insides. He made his way over and was almost there before noticing the small girl who'd been talking to the Yuanese crewmembers offering him some water. Well, I guess she has that under control. I guess I'll just check up on the fellow with the dog that I saw. He said, not very quietly to himself.

Rigmund felt a twinge of compassion when he saw Olaf's discomfort way across the ship. He made his way over there, just in time to hear the young girl's advice about tea leaves.

"Brilliant stuff, that!" Rigmund bellowed when he heard that. "You know, me mam -- Tyr bless her dead wrinkled heart -- used to brew up tea leaves up for me all the time. Mint leaves for headaches, aloe for colds, and chamomile for crossbow-inflicted injuries! Worked like a charm!" He beamed at Olaf and continued, in a lower voice. "The crew members gave me a little information about these so-called 'orcs'. They're only a few warriors, led by some churl named Batakar -- sounds like the nasty kind. When we find him, we'll find the captain's daughter, you can bet your bottom gil on that. Here's what I was thinking; as soon as we can, we should round up all of the Captain's troops and try to hammer out how we're going to knock out Batakar and rescue the captain's little lass. There is no cooling at sea, though it becomes a little less humid as you got farther and farther from land. I couldn't forgive myself if this condition would cause me not to fulfil my duty should we be forced to defend ourselves on the sea." He wipes clean the waterskin carefully before returning it. After taking a few deep breaths to clear his head, he answers Rigmund. "This sounds like a good idea. So far, most of us have not worked or fought together and a good rally shall go a long way towards building an unit out of us. No matter how few of them there may be, it will not be our turf and I trust our adversaries to find a way to twist it to their advantage. We will need any shared strength that we can get. When Dorrem spotted Aiko's charity, he first thought it was irresponsible of her... that she did not spend the coin on equipment for the mission. It was like watching valuable tactical tools turn into wine and gambling losses. Seeing the secondary effect, the crew's spirited gratefulness to the Captain (and knowing the value of leadership and loyalty), Drum wonders if the woman planned this. He thinks to himself, What have I learned today? Reserve judgment.

Dorrem expresses uncertainties to the outgoing Rigmund. Dorrem says, "You have the Captain's ear. I believe we need to know more about our target, and our mission. Do we think the lass is on Batakar's vessel, or in some camp on land? When we do find Batakar, do we start with actions or negotiations? Are we extracting just the lass, or freeing any slaves we find? We need Captain Jim to set our mission parameters. "

Rigmund nods at Dorrem's words. The other man had a point; the crew had told him enough to infer about the orc pirates' location, but in order to prepare an effective campaign he would need more concrete details.

"What do you know about this goblin, Batakar?" Rigmund asks the Captain. "I reckon that he might be the one holding your daughter, but I can't be sure if he's asea or on land. Do you think we can negotiate with him? And what should we do if we find other slaves?"

His condition somewhat improved during the evening, Olaf eagerly participates in the conversation, careful not to interrupt the priest. Upon hearing the plans, he scratches his head in contemplation. "Certainly, I would prefer negotiating a peaceful outcome with the orc captain and avoid unnecessary bloodshed. However, I am at a loss how a compromise between us would be fashioned. After all, I would not know how to justify letting him get away with his ploy and leave him to just attack the next ship that comes along. We certainly should look for the most peaceful option possible but at the moment I feel somewhat adamant about incapacitating the pirates enough to make the sea a safer place. And concerning possible other slaves... I doubt that he had any of them acquired legally. Unless we find compelling evidence to the contrary, I would say that we are justified - if not indebted - to extract them."

Aiko had disengaged herself from the earlier conversation with the contingent of outsiders suddenly, her disappearance cued by the sickly blonde showing signs of recovery. She spent the evening in the company of the four night crewmen. When it became apparent that they were understandably tiring, she offered to show anyone interested how to slip into a meditative state.

“Mediation would work to deepen relaxation and sharpen concentration; with enough practice, it will lessen fatigue and enrich rest. Your night vigil is a necessity,” the girl explained with an earnest nod, “but your weariness is not.”

However, I want to stress that we at least show the decency to allow our adversaries a peaceful surrender. From what I have heard, these seas do not allow much compassion and there may be enough pirates who are following Batakar only out of fear for revenge."

But he recognizes the importance of what Caerin had said, about displaying a show of force. "If the pirates respond to our overture, so be it. But if they make war or threaten the captain's daughter... then blood may be shed."

Those near the stern will hear a low, almost melodic muttering as Caerin speaks to his dog. The dog is watching him solemnly, with its head on its paws.

For those who speak elven: I believe this is Garen and Aiko.
<Damn fool paladin and his damn fool negotiations. And the other holy man too. They'll have us waltz right up to those orcs with our paltry dozen and make demands. I'd be surprised if the orcs even pretend to listen, eh Bo?> He sounds slightly angry, but mostly resigned.

Garen, noticing how everyone else seemed to have found their place among the crew and its duties. He begins to talk to himself, forgetting where he is, "I wonder if I'm in the right place. I'm not a fighter or even a caster of any note. Why would I be here with these people who obviously have all seen plenty of combat. I hope I can prove useful in some way."

Tark approaches Olaf, with a worried expression on his face. He opens his mouth a few to times to speak, but seems to not be able to work out what to say. Finally he mutters, "Olaf, lad, I know we are on a mission for our god, but sometimes we have to kill. It's a hard world, but these men are pirates. If we ask them to surrender they will get us while our guard is down."
Tark stops, surprised that he managed to speak so many words at once, ((a charisma of 7 will do that to you)).
He returns to his coil of rope, still looking very shocked at himself.

Aiko

Towards the stern of the ship, Aiko had been gently leading one of the sailors through a minor breathing exercise. When the elf spoke she did not immediately respond. Instead she waited until the small exchange with the sailor was done, only then turning to the bald archer.

“You are perceptive, and yet presumptuous,” the Yuanese girl commented in a curious and calm manner, her tone and tongue becoming that of the elves' flippant speech.

“It does not matter what those around you intend to do – unless you are so weak that you would do nothing else. A strong voice means little without wise words. I will not fall in line with a flawed plan.”

Olaf's eyes narrow as he hears Tark. "Don't get me wrong on this one. We will kill any of the pirates that stand against us and threaten either us or their captives. It would be irresponsible to give them time to use a hostage - or even get an idea like this. But there may - and I stress the word may - be some pirates who will not sacrifice their life for their captain."

Tiberius

Since the ship has set out, Tiberius has been rather quiet, finding position by the Jackal at the front of the ship Now this is the aft, I think, he sits crosslegged as he struggles to meditate, to find a deeper connection to his god through the well of power he possesses. As always, he easily succeeds the meditative stance, he feels the flow of energy through his body, and could extend it as usual into the Blade, but as always he still fails to reach the next level and separate his power, to become a true psion.

Releasing the trance, Honos will reveal it to me in His own time, if that is the path he wishes me to tread. Tiberius opens his eyes to the ship around him, he sees the other priest aboard, with his retinue, acquaintances all from the journey, he smiles and nods at each of them who notice him looking, and raises the wine to Tark when it reaches him, though he doesn't partake.

The crew seem more than competent at their jobs, and doing well at avoiding the influx of hired help on this mission, the other mercenaries, [I]I suppose mercenaries would be the right term[i], are a mixed bunch, the solitary masked man by his side appears to be a good sort, not one to waste too many words. The girl wandering amongst the crew appeared harmless enough, or at least good at putting on that act, the way she moves carries a certain grace, and confidence that would mark her as a warrior, or at least someone who can look after themselves.

The bard seems a jovial sort, though their type always appear that way, it remained to be seen whether he is the sort to sing of stories, or to actually partake. The other two, a human and an elf, obviously warriors both, probably here for the money, though with the human offering to help out with the chores among ship makes that less certain.

Hi all, apologies I'm a little late to the party, been away from internet these past few days.

For watching the ship: Spot: [roll0]

Seeing a group congregate to discuss the mission, Tiberius rises and makes his way over, neatly making his way across the busy deck.

Listening to their words, Tiberius recognises a lot of sense in them, though as Tark falls silent he chooses that moment to speak; "Brother priest, Honos at least frowns upon those who allow evil to proceed as well as those who perpetrate it, there are no innocents in that camp but for the hostages.

Use the quietest of our group to infiltrate the camp just before daybreak to identify and incapacitate any sentries. Then split our main force into two groups, move one to see to the hostages, while the other group pursues the Captain." Tiberius looks to each of the others in the group for suggestions.

<Much as I'd love to go at this alone, a job this complicated needs teamwork. Now, if we could get a few more->

Hearing Tiberius, Canidale cuts off again for a moment, before addressing the group as a whole.

The good fellow has a point. Any pirate that will be surrendering won't be doing so until they're feeling beaten. I'm more than willing to be part of the forward group. Anyone else game?

This last part is said with a nod to Aiko.

Vladis Nox

Upon Tiberius's watch Vladis finally sits and leans against the side of the boat to grab some shut-eye while Tiberius is 'on-duty'. As Tiberius departs for the meeting he rouses and continues his watch with a "Keep me informed... with the plans of the ... mission... just... one thing... I don't want those slave traders to get away with this..." As he mentions the slave traders an obvious underlying feeling of anger fills his voice.

Dorrem replies enthusiasticly, animatedly using his hands as he speaks, "The idea of some of us 'looking for hostages'... that's my point about defining our goal. If we're taking the ship, the hostages can wait, no? If we're extracting them, then, while the extraction team looks for hostages, the assault team should be very distracting, and can be more destructive, like setting fire to the sails. I want us to decide between taking the ship or extracting the hostages. If we're extracting, I want us to brainstorm how to disrupt the pirate crew as much as possible." He grins. Dorrem is happy to be discussing the mission.

Captain Jim will hear the specialists discussing the plan. He will agree that this is a very important topic. "My plan is to get you all to investigate the situation. Honestly, I don't know how the base is guarded, but we need to at least scout the area. If you guys think you can handle it without getting my sso... daughter, killed I think we should do it. That isle probably is surrounded by guards, so my plan was to drop you all off quickly before any pirate skiffs could be sent out after us. We can outrun a galley, but not one of those smaller wind-surfers. As to negotiating with Batakar, that is not an option. If we can I'd love to bring that orc back alive for hanging in the empire. He has caused others grief, and I think we can get a little bounty for him. But, personally if we kill him, and get my... daughter, then I'd be happy."

The evening gets darker, the sun is past the horizon, but still lights up the Western sky with a reddish purple.

A sailor, Xei Chen, is eager to learn these meditative steps with Aiko, but seems to be getting more turned on than anything by the breathing exercises. Xei Chin will whisper into her ear, "Do you have a boyfriend?" He's a scrappy looking fellow, with a kind face, but not that attractive.

Rigmund curses as he peers out at the eerie shape looming out of the water. He had clambered up to get some fresh air and perform his nightly devotions to Tyr and was about to return asea when he noticed the commotion starting up around him. Rigmund falls to his knees and throws his arms up, beseeching Tyr. "Almighty God! King of the world, King of the stones and the stars, King of the waves of the sea -- your servant Rigmund calls upon you now! Send a champion to defend this ship from the ravages of the murky deep!"

I am casting the Cleric spell Summon Monster I -- to summon a Celestial Porpoise (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/porpoise.htm) into the water. If it is successful, I will order it to swim towards the thing in the water and if it seems to be alive and hostile it should swim back and inform me.

Aiko

Aiko had become significantly more interested in the conversation when those assembled began speaking of using their various strengths rather than hinging hope on the uniquely optimistic paladin. She began thinking of how to contribute to the strategies said, her thoughts entangled in ideas of disguise and death, so when the seemingly unrelated question about a boyfriend came up, she stared dumbly, not understanding what that had to do with the mission. Then she noticed the elf sentry bringing out his weapon and knew something was wrong.

“Get below deck and stay there,” she ordered Xei with quiet urgency.

“Warn the others while you can.”

The girl quickly went to snap up her quiver and short bow that had been laid near the starboard side. She then placed herself towards the back of the group assembled on deck. Aiko was a small, weak swimmer that preferred stealth, so she was not going anywhere near what she imagined was a large, aquatic creature bold enough to openly assault their ship. She notched an arrow, waiting only until she judged the shape close enough to hit, and no longer hidden within the water.

Olaf had eaten a light supper and is just about to go below deck and figure out how to remove his new armor when he hears the shouts around him. With his untrained eyes, he is unable to see anything except for maybe one spot of red in front of the different red at the horizon. He picks up his sword and shield again and steps towards the railing, looking for a place that would give him sure footing and kicking away any loose objects that might hinder him or others on a frantic run that might follow. Trying to apply a kind of improvised battle stance, he concentrates on the point in the distance. Would it be a simple sea dweller? Or something more fiendish in origin?

If the thing is in striking range and still charging, attack. If not, wait until it is within 60 feet and Detect Evil.

As alarm spread over the ship, you all became aware of red specks in the water.
It looked at first as dots in the water, but quickly come bursting up around you from all sides of the ship! "Red Sahuagins!" Kip screams out to the men.
"Call to arms! Call to arms!!" the Captain shouted, but all of you were already acting.

These beasts were humanoid with scaly red skin. Their necks and bellies were a dark pink. They have sharp teeth and great staring pink eyes with large black pupils. Their claws and feet are webbed and they have necklaces and adornments, as well as spear, nets, and other weaponry. 3 ride sharks. The biggest of all the red sahuagins, stays underwater, on its large great white. There are at least 8 other sahuagins that are not on sharks.

Aiko fires at the first one she sees, and sets an arrow in it's chest. It snarls and keeps coming! Xei nods like a child when Aiko tells him to go below decks.

Caerin can vibe with the sharks, but they ain't feelin' him. These creatures are loyal to their masters; Caerin gets the feeling these sahuagin's actually treat these sharks with a little idolatry.

Few noticed Tiberius' manifestation come into being, but it would be impressive to watch. Most eyes are fixed with horror on the sea around you.

Silent Quinn had been below decks taking a crap. He rushes up to see what the matter is and quickly gets in his mind what spell he'll cast next round.

Olaf will immediately feel utter evil from these beasts rising from the sea, he readies to attack, but they do not approach the ship's side. Thinking back to the Captain's gender confusion, Olaf will definitely think it sounded fishy, he looked uncomfortable covering his error.

Rigmund had been casting his summon spell, and as the beasts rose to the surface the celestial porpoise was in the sea. It immediately found an intense hatred for the sharks. {OOC- I am considering the spell Rigmund's 'surprise' round action sort of... Basically, he can ready himself again now. So post two actions next time.}

Captain Jim has his men moving by now, and the skinny ones are flying by Aiko to the lower decks. Aguella, the half-orc and 3 other beefy sailors draw up spears and small wooden arm shields. Aiko will see the skinny men below decks grabbing short bows and arrow stacks from a barrel.

Garen begins to sing much to the sahuagin's annoyance. Everyone is inspired of old tales of yor at sea. Garen is quite talented, and the sahuagin's take note of the handsome one's skill.

Dorrem knows what they are, but can't seem to hurt one, as his slingshot bounces harmlessly off of it. The red scaled sahuagins were some of the meaner ones, and a little out of their normal sea zone.

Vladis fires his shot at the first one he saw, and it struck one, but didn't kill it. The sahuagins keep their distance.

Nets come flying onto the deck as several of the creatures try to pull your fellows into the sea.
2 nets come for Quinn and pull the gnomish wizard out to sea without so much as a peep!
A net went for Vladis, but he deftly avoided it.
A net also pulls one of the beefy dudes in as well.
Other nets are resisted, Caerin, Garen, and the half-orc all pulled away from their nets.

Tark finally comes up from below, and to the side. He can see nets all over the deck, and the red sahuagins in the water.

Aiko

“Don't stand around,” Aiko advised to those with melee weapons, her naturally quiet voice straining to be heard. “If the enemy is a stone's throw away, grab a javelin and have them wish they were farther.”

Saying this, the girl then dipped her hand into a deep pocket in her dark trousers. She plucked out several coins, and quickly returned all but a single silver piece. With a dark smirk, as though she were now unleashing a volatile gambit, she purposefully chucked the silver piece near to the next red creature she intended to attack. Hoping the shark-mounted monster she was aiming near took interest in it, she quickly darted behind nearby cover to gain concealment while hiding.

Once safely behind the barrel, hoping she had tucked enough of her slight form away, the dark-haired girl carefully rose her short bow up.

Explanation & Rolls:

Okay, to try and make sense of what I did, here's how I think it goes in mechanical terms...

1. Free action: Bluff check to try and make a distraction against her next target.

2. Move action: Move behind the barrel.

3. Another free action: Hide attempt so I can act as a sniper and Sudden Strike.

4. Standard action: Attack (the same target as last time) with short bow.

I think I did the skill actions right. Correct me if I'm wrong, Blue. I need to learn this stuff. :smallsmile:

If it's right, only apply Sudden Strike damage if the Hide (and therefore, the Bluff) checks were successful.

Bluff: [roll0] You can't spend your earnings if you're dead, so I threw a silver piece, because a copper piece isn't shiny enough to grab attention.

Hide: [roll1] Hiding behind a barrel. I'm guessing one might be on deck. Or I'll just hide behind anything nearby, really. Preferably away from the edges of the ship. I don't want to get dragged overboard.

Attack roll: [roll2] Bard gave me a +1 to hit.
Damage roll: [roll3] Bard gave me a +1 to damage.
Sudden Strike: [roll4]

Edit:--------Deleted the attack part in this post and crossed out these rolls. Only allowed the free actions, have to attack net round. :smallsmile:

Second EDIT:----After reading things closer in the books, a Diversion is meant to be a Standard Action. My mistake. :smalleek:

Just as a reminder to myself: I now have 5 gold and 9 silver pieces.

"Don't get too close to the railing" Olaf's gentle voice becomes harsh and broken as fear and surprise wash through him. He discards his shield and throws it into a safe corner from where he could retrieve it later. He takes a step back, preparing to swing his weapon to free someone else from a net. The other arm he extends entirely, trying to make himself a larger, harder-to-catch target. "I doubt they will try to board us, so let us not give them any more targe..." Suddenly he stops as a dreadful thought comes to his mind. Something too dangerous to utter aloud.

Move action to discard my Shield.

Ready a standard action to cut through a net (or the line attached to it) as soon as someone within reach is caught.

If someone of the sailors is close enough to be whispered to, say this to him.
"Run below deck. I fear, this might be just a diversion while they try to breach the hull from below us."

If nobody is within whispering range, that last one has to wait one turn.

Rigmund gasps as he sees the hideous creatures rising up out of the water. He had been expecting orcs, and perhaps a few craven human thralls. He had certainly not been expecting anything like this. Over the churning of the ocean, he hears the Captain call them "Red sahuagins!""Blast and damnation!" Rigmund swears. Mentally, he directs his porpoise ally to attack their shark mounts, using all of its supernatural power -- he hopes that the sea beast and take it by surprise.

The priest then scans the deck of the ship, trying to check on his allies. A few of them look battered but all of them seemed alive. Meanwhile, the beasts were quite rightly staying far from attacking distance. Rigmund cannot attack with his axe from this distance, not without entering the sea, but there was no reason that he had to cower.

Seeing his Paladin comrade, he hurries over and tries to see if he can dispel his fear with the power of God. He has little time to spare, however, because he then tries to go and help the people hoisting people out of the sea.

If possible, I will try to cast Resistance (+1 on saving throws) around Olaf if he is near enough and he consents. After that, I will go to to assist the others in pulling back the trapped people. (I hope this dice roll works!)

Aguella, the half-orc is near Olaf, and he nods fearfully in understanding what the paladin said. The half-orc runs below decks to see if he can aid the archers below. Aguella will pass Tiberius as he is grabbing a bow. Olaf holds his action sword ready!

Rigmund moves near the paladin and casts Resistance upon him. The priest then readies to defend against the nets.

Aguella is heading below decks with Xei and the others, and Aguella tells the men, that they might be in danger. They ignore the half-orc, and set themselves to fire out of the portals.
Captain Jim and Kip have crossbows, and from the control seat both men fire. Both miss horribly. Jim seems especially embarrassed.

Garen abruptly stops singing and readies his crossbow from a defensive position on the deck.

Dorrem seems even less effective with his bow as he loses an arrow in the rocky seas.

Vladis holds for nets...

These creatures all seem to have at least two folded nets each on their weapon belts. Olaf and Vladis don't have to wait long to act! Both are attacked with nets! Olaf can't avoid his, but Vladis does! Olaf is strong and holds his ground, but is still caught. Vladis moves to help free him.

Kip is also netted, but he is pulled full force to the side and over. The navigator is still at the surface fighting for now. Captain Jim has caught hold of one side of the net, and holds it dearly. "I need you Kip! More than these guys!"
Despite two nets trying to snag the bard, they couldn't even touch him! Much to their annoyed ears.

Those looking straight over the side will know what hit you and shook the clipper. The largest shark was being used as a battering ram, and the sounds of splintering can be heard below. "She still holds!" yells a sailor down below.

Tark's chain can actually hit the sahuagins throwing nets from the sea. He cracks one over the head bloodying it badly, but doesn't knock it out.

Canidale
Smiling grimly at the dead monster as it sinks below the waves, Canidale nocks another arrow on his bow as an idea occurs to him. The sharks were a serious threat- without them, the sahuagin would only be able to attack with their nets.

And, as a ranger, Canidale could conceivably be familiar with the idea that sharks eat meat, and are aroused by blood in the water. What if he gave them some more? It could loosen the control the Sahuagin had on them...

Just before he looses an arrow at another one of the Sahuagin, Canidale gestures at basket (or whatever) of beef jerky and shouts "Bo! Fetch me the meat!".

Aiko

Aiko aligned her next shot from her crouched, hidden position. With the ship swaying slightly, her eyes creased in disturbed annoyance at how many were already dragged overboard; at the sheer strength of the aquatic battering ram.

Trying to pick a moment between the unnerving ebb and weave of the deck to steady a shot, the girl hesitated. Seeing the more experienced archer take aim himself, she decided it was best to observe and oblige, delaying purely to see who the pragmatic sharp-shooter designated for death. At the closest thing to a lull that the slightly tipping ship showed, immediately after the elf, Aiko aimed and attacked at the same target.

Dorrem drops his bow in frustration. Pushing away the flush of guilt at his ineffectualness, he finds a new idea. He draws his handaxe, and calls, "Bladesmen, cut their lines!"

If anyone is in a net and still on ship, Dorrem will move to them and sunder the rope/line that the Sahuagin uses to pull them in (by mechanics, I guess, the net simply one item with 5 hps). I'm chopping the line, though, not the person in the net! If no one is currently netted on his turn, he readies to do the same for anyone who becomes nettled during the next round.

Aiko holds for the elf's shot...

Canidale sends the dog off and it warily charges down to the lower decks for the beef jerky bucket. The dog barks up what is going on down here to Canidale. Meanwhile, Canidale makes another deadly shot, this one at the creature Tark battered. Canidale can see this one is about to dive under the water, so he ends this creature's life most swiftly with a shot to its heart.

Aiko sees Canidale's target fall, so she aims for the starboard shark-rider however, her shot skips off the hard shell-armor the mounted sahuagin wear.
{His second target was the riders.}

Tiberius sets himself up in the hull with other archers. His shot through a portal at a rider skips off the shell-armor like Aiko's.

Rigmund steadies himself, but takes cover behind a barrel of rope. {DM action} Rigmund's porpoise slams into the shark again, but with less success as it continues its attack.
The Captain meanwhile is pulling Kip back in with all his might as he holds onto one end of the net. Two of the remaining buff dudes on the deck rush to help him. "If it's him or me, let it be me!!" Jim shouts bravely. Kip is meanwhile pulling a knife out and trying to free himself as well.
The archers below deck have minor success as they fire out. One of them, Zeishen, actually nicks the port-side shark-rider fighting the porpoise.
Rigmund can help with this if he wants...

There are three sahuagin pulling on Kip's net. Two of them were underwater, and even aiming for the easiest target, Garen finds he can't puncture the red scales.

With all the help the Captain is getting, Dorrem can rush over and simply split the net open that had captured Kip. Kip is free, and Rigmund will pull him to safety.

Strong Olaf can cut himself free of the net.

Vladis pulls the rest of the net off of Olaf. There is netting all over the deck of this ship.

At this point the sahuagin pull out javelins and begin to hurl them at various targets. Canidale and the bard are both targeted with two javelins, but both miss, embedding the points into the deck.
The Captain is hit, but only is grazed. Dorrem as well! {d:4}
{Several javelins flew, many missed!}

The port-side shark and rider dispatch the celestial porpoise, and laugh triumphantly as they send it back to the planes.

The starboard rider senses the danger of Olaf and throws his javelin VERY hard into Olaf's side through his heavy armor. {d:6}

The large shark underwater continues to batter the ship's hull, it sounds to those below that the shark is trying to eat its way through.

Tark can swing his chain at a swimming sahuagin, but just splashes water and only cleans the blood off of it this time.

Aiko cringed in concern at the boy with a javelin jutting out from him. Still, while mere sea sickness had caused him to keel around earlier, he somehow endured the piercing strike. Trying to refocus, she barely pushed thoughts of his wound and disturbing muttering from her mind. Moving from her previous hiding spot, the girl roughly lined herself up adjacent with the more skilful archer. Another arrow flew from her short bow soon after.

OOC- I try to keep battles moving, so it doesn't slow down the story-line... alas the nature of play-by-post.

Red Sahuagin Battle:
Canidale's dog Bo has returned with the meat, and is very sad it has to dump the beef jerky. The poor dog wants to bark out a reason not to, but the loyal companion of Canidale does what is asked in this crucial moment.
The elf meanwhile, is a deadly shot, and fires hard into the starboard shark-rider, right through the shell-armor. He howls in pain, but is not felled!

Aiko follows Canidale's shot and hurt the shark-rider even more, but doesn't kill it! This shark-rider looks very bad now.

Tiberius is on the starboard side below decks, and sees the injured shark-rider, but can't make the shot. He nearly fumbled, he must've been jostled by the ramming shark. :smallwink: {confirmed not a fumble- whew!}

Rigmund will notice that his porpoise did do a successful first attack on the port-side shark, but it was sent back to the celestial planes last round. Rigmund will throw a nearby javelin back at one of the swimming sahuagin, now that he realizes his porpoise is already gone. He connects and sticks one hard with its own javelin.

Captain Jim follows Rigmund's throw with a solid crossbow shot that outright kills Rigmund's injured sahuagin. Men below decks are getting a little fearful of the shark, and a few run to the main deck. Aguella waits with his spear ready, he looks at Tiberius with fear in his orcish eyes. Kip and the two sailors will notice the men coming up from below, and make their way below decks to deal with this situation.

Garen can see nothing heavy, that he could throw except one of these javelins that landed on the deck. He too fumbles his attack. He's not used to throwing javelin, and throws it like an uncoordinated girl.

Dorrem fires at the burly shell-armored shark rider, already with a few arrows in him. This is the one that does it. Dorrem hits the shark-rider right in the neck, and it falls off its shark, and slides into the sea. At this the shark goes crazy mad and starts thrashing!

Olaf can find a javelin and sheath his sword.

Vladis throws one of the few remaining javelins on the deck, but it just splashes into the sea.

Canidale and Garen are the only ones hurt by the enemy javelin tosses this round. {d:7, 5} Canidale crumples as his hits him in the back. He falls to the deck bleeding out. Garen gets a nasty slash in his side, but is not felled.

The port-side shark rider actually throws an amazing power shot at one of the archers behind Tiberius, through the arrow-portal! Tough shot. This archer below decks crumples to the ground by the rider's mighty attack.

The riderless shark is bezerk and dives below deck and jolts the ship with its own ramming of the ship. The hull cracks and takes on sprays of water near Tiberius as the biggest shark is starting to break through below.None of the sharks seem attracted to Canidale's beef jerky. Not that Bo cares anymore, the dog is now whimpering and licking Canidale's face.

It would take a moment to grab a dropped bow, his chain could still reach some of the swimming sahuagins. Why not? He thunks his chain hard onto one's head, and crushes it. The creature sinks unconscious beneath the waves.

Canidale is up and ready, and Bo can't be happier. He sees the injured Sahuagin with Aiko's arrow in its back, and finishes it off with a shot to its head.

Captain Jim fires a terrible shot at the port-side rider.
The men below decks start poking the shark with pointy sticks. One soldier ran too close to the shark as he squeezed by, and is bitten in half! {AoO}
{This sailor is killed outright in front of Rigmund.} Some minor damage is caused to the big shark's face by the crewmen with Kip. This shark's rider could not be seen through the breach and rushing water below. It will take some time for this to fully fill up.

Garen also fired his crossbow last round, but to not the same effect that he got this time. He hits the port-side rider with a great shot this time, piercing through the shell-armor!

Dorrem tosses his handaxe, and loses it to the sea. It must've slipped in his hand.

Olaf will follow Rigmund down to fight the shark in the lower deck. It is too crowded for him to attack this round, but Kip will gladly move out of the way for next round.
{DM action}

Vladis sees no land this evening, but does finish off the sahuagin that Garen had injured, before it dove beneath the sea.

With the success of the allies so far, the swimming sahuagins retreat... for the most part. The angry port-side rider roars in anger as most of his swimming troops retreat. He lifts a large hooked javelin that looked part of his shark's saddle, it had a rope attached to it made of seaweed. It was targeting the bard, but misses and crashes into the deck. The sharkrider lets go of the rope of his stray projectile. Those near the sides of the ship will see retreating sahuagin take dying and wounded sahuagin with them.

The two sharks continue to attack.
The big one goes right for the priest and his dramatic entrance. It bites him critically. Rigmund crumples before the horrified eyes of Olaf in a spray of blood. Rigmund is quite dead. And the great white's teeth are red, and it is now going berserk too.
{OOC- :smallfrown: Sorry, Steward}

The slightly smaller berserk great white lashes up and tries to bite Tark, but can't hurt him in his armor. Tark batters this shark with his chain attack, leaving a welt on its head. {d:12}

"No..." Olaf's knees become weak. What he has been intending to be a scream comes out as nothing more than a broken whisper. Tears rise to the eyes of the Paladin, which he supresses only for the thought of it being foul that he should mourn his priest visibly more than the others who deceased. He makes no effort to suppress his rage, though. In a wide arc, he swings the sword over his head and brings it down with both hands to the great white's head.

Aiko has been a deft little ninja on the deck and hadn't been hurt all battle, though blood was everywhere on the deck and probably spattered on her, none of it was hers. She fires a solid shot at the shark now attacking Tark. She hurts it near the dorsal fin.

Tiberius pulls his dying sailor near Aiko, and tries to stay low.

Canidale has no chance to control these brainwashed sharks. His attack is way off.

Captain Jim fires a bolt at the port-side rider and knocks him off his shark.
The men below deck spear the great shark, until its face is bloody!

Garen finds a fallen sailor near him that he can try to help. It is Xei, the one who has a crush on Aiko.

Dorrem uses his handaxe to attack the shark and had last round. He didn't throw it. Unfotunately, he can't hit the shark on Tark hard enough.

Olaf finishes the great white shark with a mighty stab in its face. The shark drifts backwards into the water ending combat there. Below the shark's mighty rider could be seen briefly before swimming off into the depths. It appeared to have four arms! Deceased Rigmund is caught up in the small amount of water, and the momentum of the heavy metal he is in pulls him down into the sea fast through the breach, even though the water is coming in, and before anyone could get to him.
Kip will immediately get the crew here to repairing the hole, and removing the water. Aguella and the others not injured hop to it. Kip then goes to see if he can stop anyone's bleeding, as he is a trained field doctor, but while barking orders.

The last shark bites Tark hard, but the fighter withstands the bite{d:9} to be able to follow it through with a mighty chain bash that sends the shark back into the sea.

Combat Ends------------------------------------->

Captain Jim doesn't stop firing his crossbow, but the sahuagin will disappear without a trace. Only the destruction of their passing. Kip is heard below decks frantically trying to do ten things at once.

5 had been lost, and more injured. Only 2 of the dead were there to remind you.

Olaf eases Kip's healing duties, and the hurt men are all taken care of and stabilized.

Kip will get Canidale to help with some labor, as serious repairs and water removal was the ship's current mode of operation.

The Captain will want to move the ship as soon as Kip has blocked off the hole. The lower hold is still partially full of water, so the injured men are crowded into Kip and Jim's large deck room until the water is out of the bed area. Even then many of the mats are wet. The pump they have to remove water is pretty weak, so much of you guys will be helping with buckets of water out portals.

When the hole is sealed, and the ship moving on into the open sea smoothly, Captain Jim will gather everyone who can, and hold a pray for the lost. He is sincerely depressed, and so are the men. Thing weren't looking good so far.

Dorrem will find that he has no room to train like he wants to on the deck, and will have to spend his time below decks, trying not to disturb the injured folk still sleeping. Though Dorrem did find some room to practice, the cramped quarters on this small ship was indeed hurting Dorrem's style.

He should have expected losses like these to occur very quickly but the sour feeling of helplessness still took its time to pass. At least he seemed to become better in his medical skills. Has Rigmund's influence and advice paid off? Hopefully, this is the case because he is not around anymore to help. Touching an inner reserve of calm he just found, Olaf gives the injured crew members one last look. He murmurs a small prayer, touching the fresh wounds. Aiko
It had surprised Aiko that they had broken the collective will of their assailants. In the aftermath of cleaning wounds and calming the crew, the girl found an empty corner to huddle into, first on deck and then below. She didn't want to obstruct those that could actually help the injured. When below deck, she observed the compassionate paladin, and both brown eyes became orbs wide with disbelief as wounds effortlessly knit themselves together under his touch. As the mystical healing stopped, she gave a confused glance towards all those yet still injured. Realizing the blessing was limited, she wordlessly approached the blonde, only to hand off a glass vial filled with a healing elixir.

Aiko felt that with the time he had spent trying to aid the sailors, he would already have judged whose wounds were serious instead of superficial, and so it was wiser to have him chose whom it went to. Knowing there was little else she could immediately do, she wearily went to her bed after, a slight guilt slicing into her mind over not so much as suggesting that she had another two such potions. An uneasy sleep was slipped into soon after.

Give Olaf one of the potions of cure light wounds. Let him decide who it goes to. I now have 2 potions remaining.

Tiberius spent the last day in recrimination over Rigmund's death, acutely aware that if it hadn't been for his last attack on the shark, it could well have been Tiberius that was attacked, and even now finding his last rest on the sea bed. Honos preserve me, I will ask Olaf if I can bear the news of his death to his church and family. He deserves more than I can give, and I hope Tyr has reserved a place in his heaven for him.

After a poor night attempting to sleep Tiberius gives up and goes up on deck to meditate on the days experiences, specifically his uselessness when it came to ranged combat. Remembering his lessons and tuition in the way of the Blade he recalls the next level of control, to create the blade form and tie off the weave so it can exist separately from the energy flow of the body.

His first attempts did not give him much hope, as soon as he tried to separate the weave the form dissolved instantly, and his anger at his lack of control made him lose concentration which made it even harder. Relaxing once more to find his centre he finds himself recalling the events of the day again, especially Rigmund's final attack, given new hope he renewed his efforts, and though exhausted, just before dawn he succeeded in tying off the weave, the blade shining fully formed in his hand for a split second before the hastily tied energy streams unravelled and dissipated, but it was still a success, and would only continue to improve with practice.

Revitalised by his success, Tiberius rises with the sun to assist in the chores of the day, Confidence and activity is what we need now, that fight will have shaken more than me about this trip, keep busy and keep the spirits high

Garen, having listened to many of Captain Jim's Stories for a while, decided to excuse himself to find his party mates, especially the quiet girl. She seemed to have been rather shaken by the fight and she seemed a good sort, especially after how she helped out the crew and then not demanded credit for the act. She also seemed adept with a bow, something Garen wished he could be as well. So much more finesse seemed to be found in the use of a bow that was quite lacking in the crossbow. Plus, Garen had always been a sucker for the ladies. He set of to find Aiko. He found her meditating in one of the few open spaces on the boat and sat down to wait for her to finish.

The next day passes slowly, as the exhausted crew works shorthanded. You are slightly off schedule, but Olaf hears the Captain tell Kip, that the important thing is to land on the pirate's isle in the evening.

One thing Aiko's potion did was bring sailor, Xei, back to working shape. He got the day off though, and was going to get night duty.

Garen and Aiko could get to know each other a little better this day. Aiko will notice Garen is the most charming man on the clipper.... if she cared to notice. :smallamused:

Olaf and Vladis are asked to be first watch with the minimal crew this evening. It would only be two men checking the lines all night; with a few of the crew dead or out of commission everywhere was shorthanded. One of these two night crewmen was Xei. Kip wants Xei's shift to be far from Aiko's. Even if Aiko doesn't go for him, Xei has shown how distracted he can be when she is around.

Olaf nods as Tiberius approaches him with the request to relay Rigmund's death to church and family. "You lay a heavy burden on you, Tiberius. A bringer of bad news is seldomly well-received and still carries the burden of his message nonetheless. You have my esteem for searching this responsibility and I will gladly accept your offer - seeing that it would be my duty to do so otherwise. However, I must insist that I accompany you on the visits to the Temple and to his family. For your sake because my presence might earn you more trust with them, but especially for my sake because I would have to answer some uncomfortable questions if I did not relay the news myself. Also..." Olaf's voice becomes hoarse and his gaze shifts away from Tiberius' for a moment. "...we can share the burden on four shoulders instead of two. That is, assuming that we both will return."

I assume that you will actually have talked to me about this one at some point during the day. If not, ignore this :smalltongue:

Olaf will also spend some time checking on the two crew members with the major injuries. He tries to make the best use of the medical supplies and his newfound abilities while making sure to stay prepared for further emergencies. As he sees them - along with the other ones injured - not quite recover, he feels tempted to reach for the last of his supplies but quickly abandons the thought. Divine magic is Tyr's gift and it has been given to save lives, not make him feel better. He puts one of the remaining cures again and takes the other one to return it to Aiko: "Tyr smiles upon your benevolence and your gift. I am grateful for your help and don't want to reject it, but I have to ask you to keep it in your possession for now. The injured should be well on their way to recovery while we approach another battle. I have my own contingent of healing and I will be carrying sword and shield. I'd rather let you keep the potion. You will be able to make more use of it when it comes to an emergency."

I assume that I can get the two injured sailors mostly recovered with one healing potion and four points of Lay on Hands. I'll use them on the injured crew, keep one potion on me and give one potion to Aiko. If the injured crew members require more healing, I'll use my last potion.

He then returns to the deck to meet Vladis. Between wandering around the deck and keeping lookout, he will try to strike up a conversation about the Yuanese's concept of divinity and afterlife. Partially out of curiosity, a bit more to fill the silence and keep his mind from worrying too much about things to come.

Garen is quick to action and begins his song of inspiration. {+1 to all allies!} He can peer up the stairs to let the warriors get by him, and he gets a glimpse of one of the beasts. He knows exactly what mythological beast that was. Only it was real and not from some horrible children's tale. It was in fact 4 manticores! Spiky lion beasts with giant lizard-type wings, and an ugly humanoid face wreathed with a nasty mane. They looked a sickly brown color in the night air, much different than the stories Garen had heard. They were supposedly hunters that feasted after they rained down their death of spikes!

Vladis will take as much cover as he can, as he sets up with the net, but notices that the manticore's are about 90 feet above him, and it would be a miracle to even throw the net that far. He will hold...

Tark grabs his chain and heads to the main deck running by Garen.

Dorrem peers up above and can see the ugly flying lions, but has no clue what they are. There are extra short bows and arrows down in the lower hold.

Canidale doesn't have the appropriate knowledge and has no clue what the flying lions are as they rain hell with spikes upon the ship. He takes cover behind a rope barrel.

Tiberius has a bow and charges out with it to aid and set up to fire at the beasts. He too has no idea what these things are.

Aiko sets up for a quick shot coming out up the steps, it was rushed and she was way off!.

Captain Jim bursts his head out of his cabin to see what is the matter, and comes bursting out butt naked and waving his sword and shield. "Take cover!" He says hiding under his shield.
Most of the crew stays below deck, but brave Aguella and another buff sailor rush to the top with spears and small wooden shields ready.

Olaf sees if he can tend to the dying Xei. The paladin successfully stabilizes Xei, and tries to shelter the downed man with his body.

The rain of spikes continues!
Canidale is grazed as he tries to duck. {d:3}
Tiberius is hit twice, and one is a critical shot! {d: 16 and 4}
The sailor not sheltered by Olaf that was down is slain outright by two spikes as they pierced his dying back.
One of the manticore pounces on to Aiko and knocks her down {d:7} the stairs by Garen and Dorrem. The beast can then be attacked by several of the group with melee weapons on the main deck. {AoO's} This large beast snapped several lines with its landing, and anyone up here can hit it. Vladis nets the beast, but the rest of you guys were terrible on your extra attack.

Aiko

When bashed backwards, feeling she couldn't stop herself, Aiko instinctively threw herself into it. The momentum of the ramming attack was used to purposefully tumble down the stairs and ease her landing. Even with this, the wooden steps bit and bumped her on the way down until she ended up on her back. She groaned. The girl then stared dazedly around, reaching for a potion on her person. Before fully drinking down the healing potion, she curled her body towards her chest, soon after rocking herself back to a croched position. Standing up, a stumbling step forwards told her that she needed some brief seconds to recover before retaliating.

Caught by the vicious spikes, Tiberius loses his hold on the short bow which tumbles to the ground as a spike slams into his side, the tip pointing fully out of his back, grimacing at the pain he calls forth the magic of the blade to his wrist, the beast blocking the relative cover of the deck from more spikes, and the potions of healing in his rucksack. Another short sword finding it's way to his hand he sees Tark move to flank and moves to his own position, intent on putting down the captured beast before it can break free.

Olaf cowers over Xei's limb body to let another salvo of projectiles pass. He is glad to be spared this time, even though his plans have been thwarted for now. With the first of the beasts landed on the deck and engaged in battle, there probably would not be any safe spot on the vessel at all. He carefully lifts his head and scans the surroundings. There is no time to lose...

I'll try to do this in order:

- Carry Xie in a relatively safe spot on the deck and cover him with whatever improvised materials I have available. If there is no such possibility, use my shield.
- Pick up my sword (and possibly shield) again.
- Engage and flank the manticore. Attack, if possible.

Let me know how much of it I can achieve each round.

Garen lunges up the stairs at the manticore looking down at him, unfortunately his rapier merely bends when he hits the beast's skull. Garen is giving the ship HOPE!

Tark had missed his attack of opportunity when the beast landed, but belts the monster hard with his follow up attack. {d:10}

Dorrem's view up the stairs is blocked by the manticore on the deck. Staying back and making careful aim he tries to hit it through the hatch. He does pluck it in the neck, but the arrow only grazes it. {d:4}

Canidale rapid fires shots into the beast's side and hurts it badly. It howls in pain from Canidale's two shots in its ribs.

Tiberius can't get down the stairs because the manticore is blocking it. He could slip under, but the beast would finish him for sure! He does take aim at it with the bow and misses horribly.

From behind the front-liners below the stairs, Aiko drinks her potion and feels much better now. Though she still had a mark from where the giant paw knocked her down, but it didn't hurt as bad.

Captain Jim attacks the manticore on the deck and he and Aguella finish it off with mighty strikes. The landed manticore groans and falls over the hatch, blocking the way up.

Olaf can carry Xei by the Captain's deck cabin to the rear of the ship, few spike attacks have come this way, and Olaf thinks he might be able to keep Xei from getting killed while down like the other night crewman.

Vladis' had netted the manticore now slain, and with all his might cannot move the manticore from the hatch hole. He will need help.

The three manticores above were snarling with hatred. And they rained more spiky death upon those above!
Tark is hit by one spike in his arm, his swinging chain made him a very noticeable target on the ship's deck. {d:5}
Canidale is critically struck! {d:12}
Tiberius is hit by two more as he seeks cover from the spiky rain of death. He is killed immediately as one of the shots hits his heart.{d: 8 and 9} He staggers awkwardly back, and falls into the railing busting it as he falls twisting and tumbling to his death into the sea. {Death of Tiberius}

Olaf has just turned his back on the fight when he hears the deep sound of the slain manticore crashing down. Unfortunately, that sound is soon succeeded by Tiberius crashing through the railing and even worse - the absence of a scream. That can't be good. "I am sorry, Xei..." he whispers while putting down the sailor. "I need to get back there or you will wake up on an empty ship." He gently puts down his body to the safest-looking niche and turns around to head into battle again. Hopefully, it is not too late.

OK, plan adaptation. I need to return quickly, so I am putting Xie into the place of most comparable safety that I can reach this round. Then, I'll return, stabilize any of the dying (Using the potion first, one point of Lay on Hands as a second choice), then pick up my weapons again.

Aiko shoulders into the manticore and it starts to move opening a way below. Vladis then pulls the net hard, the manticore is moved!

Captain Jim still naked screams at the manticores in the air daring them to attack. Kip has thrown on pants and is firing a crossbow from the doorway of the Captain's cabin. Kip's shot is terrible. Aguella runs to Canidale's side and pulls him to a more covered area. Most of the crew stays below, and makes no attempt to go up.

Olaf comes to Canidale's aid, and stabilizes his wounds. Aguella cradles the elf in his arms, and is providing him some cover from spikes.

Tark's patience pays off for two of the manticore's dive bomb. One goes into the sea with a splash and looks to be recovering Tiberius' body for a snack. The other claws on the dark Vladis holding the net as it lands on the deck. {d: 11} Tark meanwhile clobbered it with his chain.

He narrowly avoids running over the limp Canidale that the sailor with the orcish blood is already tending. He quickly looks over the wounds and applies makeshift cloth bandages to stop the most threatening bleedings. He nods to Aguella and produces a potion from his pack, tossing it to him. "Give this to him. I will try to help our warriors in the front row meanwhile." He adds a wry smile while standing up. "I see you two later."

Hearing a loud thud, as though something heavy had hit the deck, Aiko immediately imagined one of the mismatched abominations had landed. She took a sharp breath – sucking from the air itself the ki around her – and silently vanished. Heading on deck, the aspiring assassin moved several feet away from the other mercenaries and the monster now trying to maul the exotically obsidian, broad-muscled man. She didn't want to be struck by a hail of spikes meant for the others. Knowing several of the other mercenaries could retaliate against the creature on deck, she aimed upwards. Bringing her bow up, she notched an arrow, and fired again for the axillary cavity.

Retro:
Dorrem's death was another needless passing on this ship. The fact is that the ranger stayed in the hatch to fire his bow, but had to step near the hatch opening to make the shot. Vladis was the manticore's target, but he has fled past where Dorrem is standing and the manticore chased him to his hole. Dorrem is a victim of being in the wrong place. The angry manticore will instead use the remainder of its tail spikes into the lower hull. Dorrem is killed as 4 will hit him, the other two miss. The two misses are buried into the lower deck's floor under Dorrem's dead body.

Retro 2: Retroing some Tark damage from his chain advantage over these manticores. The one that killed Dorrem is worse off, and the one that landed will also have some chain lashes on it.

Manticore War:
Garen doesn't have to charge up, and can stab the manticore above him. He actually stabbed something vital in its belly for it groans and falls on top of the hatch. {Garen has felled a manticore!}

Canidale's awesome bow shot can then hit the one landing on the deck, and cause it serious pain. With the 2nd minotaur fleeing, for the first time you see a little concern in this beast's eyes.

Aiko never moved up so is trapped below still. She can save her invisible move, and attempt to move the 2nd dead manticore. Vladis can assist in moving dead manticore, but without the net and leverage he had above.
{edit: Vladis will drink his potion and look much better.}

Captain Jim and Kip are of use this round and hurt the manticore with their attacks.

Olaf whacks it, but can't fell a third, and Tark misses completely as he whips his chain around again.

The manticore with Tiberius in its mouth is already long gone and flying away into the night-sky. The injured one on the deck will make a full retreat with no prey, much to its hungry belly's dismay. This one may be attacked more with long ranged weapons, but combat is over.... with a several still trapped in the lower hold beneath a 2nd dead manticore.

From below deck, hearing the muffled flap of powerful wings heading away from the ship, Aiko gave a half-smile in relieve. Hearing no commotion up above, and knowing the paladin up top was likely assuring no injuries were sustained, the Yuanese girl felt there was little need to help. She turned away from the Anatarian trying to heave the dead creature covering the hatch. Dropping her various weapons – hidden or otherwise – on her bed, she picked up her other clothing, a nondescript brown tunic and brown trousers. With that she went to have a sailor's shower. The brief spray of limited fresh water starting and then suddenly stopped to soap up wet areas was efficient, but not something she enjoyed.

Olaf stumbles forward as the manticore escapes from his attack and retreats into the night. Again, the attackers have left them with casualties to mourn while escaping their just fate. At least they had made sure that two of them would not come back this time. Though he is not yet sure how to feel about it. There probably would be time to ponder later. For now, it would be most important to get the ship's crew stable and defendable. At this rate the next attack couldn't be far away...

The manticores are moved aside easily with the cooperative work of the crew.

Canidale's two shots miss, and could probably fire more at the slow moving creatures as they flee, but opts to help move the beasts.

The Captain is vehement about not getting rid of these monsters.
He wants to get anything of value from them. He is about to ask the gnome for advice, but remembers he's gone. "Damn. Two arcanists are always better than one." He scratches his beard, and looks to Garen. He is still full naked and not bashful.

Garen knows that blood and teeth, as well as their draconic wings all provide value with wizards in the city, but preserving it all is another thing. Garen thinks properly parceled with even the skin of the manitcore as a wall hanging these could gross over a thousand gold pieces each. Heck their value to a university or museum may be priceless.

Kip will bring the Captain a fine robe, but the Captain is only looking down the hatch at Dorrem. "All lost will get triple for their family.... this is all my fault." Kip dresses the Captain, and they seem to very coordinated together as they slip on the robe without the Captain thinking much about it.

I'm not sure what the DC for skinning, cleaning, and preparing manticore corpses is. With help from others/a song by Garen, Canidale should be able to make a DC20 check by taking 10, though. But if you want a roll,

More of you will be expected to chip in with the simple tasks as the next day came.

Olaf lies awake on his mat, waiting for sleep to befall. The snoring comrades-in-arms around him and the tapping of the night crew's feet are less hindrance than the adrenaline that is still surging through his body. That, and the restless thoughts in his head. What has he learned today? That death lurks at every corner for those in service? True, but that one he should have learned earlier. There was something to the manticore's attack that is still affecting him - the end of the fight. For all the maliciousness he has felt in the beasts, he could see that their only motivation to attack lay in stilling their hunger. And more importantly - he has noticed the fear in their eyes when their prey suddenly showed resistance. And for the sahuagins? Olaf still is not sure since he hasn't been able to see much emotion in their eerie eyes but he guesses the same would be true for them. The world is not filled with monsters... merely beasts - magical or mundane - that struggle to survive and lost their compassion on the way. The more important for them to make a difference. And with that thought, Olaf allows himself to fall into sleep. He probably will need it later...

Use my Lay on Hands budget for the day on whoever needs it most, then go to sleep when my shift is over. Next morning, I'll provide long-term care if someone needs it and do the last rites for Tiberius and Dorrem. Also, I'll make a mental note to chat with Kip about how he and his crew got drafted when an opportunity arises.

Canidale's expertise will allow the manticores to be properly treated. Canidale used sea water to help preserve the specimens since it was the largest quantity of salt around. He also lent his knowledge of skinning animals to help the Captain. There is some consideration as to eating the manticore meat, but Canidale takes one look at it and says not a good plan.

Kip suggests using it to fish for shark.

As the ship sails on, Kip will have Tark and Olaf help set up a crane and crank at the rear of the ship, which turns out to be a large trailing fishing pole. The whole manticore cutting is quite gruesome and bloody. The deck is incredibly stained from this operation.

Chunks of the meat are left as a trail behind the ship, as well as blood that is washed from the deck into the sea to help attract sharks. Some of the meat is kept in reserve, a hefty haunch is put out as bait on the hook.

Captain Jim is all smiles, despite the crew's wariness of this whole attempt at fishing, "We gonna eat good tonight! Let's get this bucket moving! We have until dawn next morning to drop our specialists off. And we want to treat them right!"

The following day is even more somber than the previous.

The single-masted ship makes progress into the day, and the Captain orders that the specialists get some extra sleep. Due to the delays, you would be arriving later in the night-time {early morning}, and he didn't want you to miss any sleep.

There is more time to bond, but few of the crew even want to consider making friends right now.

"We will return at high noon. If we do not see you, we will assume the worst. You must at least send someone to signal us, or we will leave and go to a priest to find the answers of your fate. I won't leave you, but I can't risk these men without proper defenses. Without you all, we'd be sitting ducks. There should be a force from the druids here to aid you, but we've been out of contact for a week. Remember do not risk anything you shouldn't. Scout the place, and then make your decision. Even if you return to me at noon, without my... child... any intelligence gathering is good. They may have traded him already. Perhaps an important pirate could be captured. I will leave it to you to decide, but... remember this. I'd rather you returned alive. Godspeed!" He salutes you all. The Captain likes that his specialists are so loyal and ready. "Remember you are scouts."

He looks to Aiko, and assures her, "The pirate docks are on the other side of the isle. If you do get a chance sabotaging that might aid in our get away. The orcs long ago took the Seeker Skif designs and now use the tiny wind boats to a deadly advantage. Large lumbering boats can be overwhelmed by dozens of 6 to 8 man skifs. Poorer pirates often use these cheaper crafts to their advantage like this bastard Batakar. I believe it is relatively well defended with orc warriors, with possible scouts on the north side of the isle. I am hoping that our druid friends have taken out the guards."

Garen knows that there is a bunch of tiny isles to the south of Carmen Isle {where you left from}. These isles have some minor jungles, and might've been part of a larger continent a long time ago. Now these scattered islands are used by bandits, orcs, rebels, and others who live outside the reach of the imperial law. Batakar is yet another pirate in this sea of slave traders. Likely those manticore's were from one of the islands nearby.

As the clipper nears the isle, the small dingy is flipped and brought to the side. It will be a crowded trip over if you all ride over at the same time. But, it is what the captain suggests. Aguella and another sailor would be bringing you over and then would row the dingy back.

The Captain tells Kip to pull out a scroll, and though the navigator is not a spell-caster the roguish man reads it and causes an illusion of an open sea to surround the ship, quite an advanced spell! At this point, Canidale will spy some movement on the southern shoreline, just a bit back in the jungle.

The Hippocampus was in deep, but safe waters, and looked really close. The illusion was still working for the 3 orcs, who were like a bunch of stooges as they tried to figure out what was happening.

Even though your group can see through the illusion it is still night, and no lights are on the deck of the Hippocampus. Something in dark robes is hovering about the main deck. Canidale will hide in the shrubbery, waiting to fire on the Illithid if it should reappear within the next few rounds.

The group on the beach is on total defense aware that the monster could reappear at any moment.

It does: upon the ship. The Captain shrieks loudly, but by the fact that he is still cursing, he survived the mind-numbing attack. From your shadowy view from shore he critically stabs it with his long sword, and then hacked it again pretty good. Aguella and Bae-lee had brought short bows and daggers to shore in the dinghy had a pretty good view of the hovering illithid as it had appeared above the captain and failed to stun him.

The two rowers fire, Aguella is able to minorly hurt the illithid.
It looks badly hurt, and doesn't seem too keen on giving the captain another chance to hit it. Those of you on shore can try to react to it if you want. It is technically not a far shot, it is shadowy, so a minor penalty applies.

{OOC- With Captain Jim gone soon, your encounter DC will go down.:smallcool: Still be wary with your PCs. You will have one round to kill this illithid before it will attempt to leave. Captain Jim's critical gave you a chance.}

Canidale sees the Illithid appear over the ship. Whispering a prayer to Herne, he hopes to bring down this fleshy abomination before it wracks another mind. The fiend had no rightful place on this thing, and was against all things natural. Nature itself demanded that the monster die.

Drawing his bow back as far as it will go, Canidale attempts to enact nature's will as he fires one shot, and then another.

Canidale and Garen miss the difficult shot, but Aiko hits! {OOC- Finally a decent DM roll.}

The illithid was hurt bad from the captain's blows and Aguella's arrow. Aiko's shot knocks it down, and the captain quickly stabs it to insure it dies.

"GO!" The Captain shouts to you on shore, he begins to help Bae-lee, Aguella, and the dinghy up."Remember! Here at NOON!"

Once the two crewmen and dinghy are hoisted up the Captain gets the Hippocampus out there!

The stunned ones will wake up as the Hippocampus pulls away into the night.

Garen, overcome with emotion, runs to give Aiko a hug and kiss. Suddenly realising what he has done, Garen moves off to pretend to check on the others, afraid of what he has just done.

Garen's feelings overcame him and his feelings for Aiko came out.

Vladis Nox

As Garen comes to check on him Vladis holds his hand out keeping his distance from the bard. "No touch." taking a look around, particularly in the direction the fleeing orc went he turns and says "We'd best get started, who knows when their watch was supposed to end. Keep and eye and an ear open for more orcs, and try to stay quiet." In hand Vladis has his potion of mage armor ready, just in case.

Canidale ignores the incredibly rapid blossoming of a relation. Among his people, such a thing could take years, but apparently it was different if you had but a few decades to live.

Instead, he presses on through the isle , bow in his right hand and his shield on the other. They had a mission to accomplish, and only a few hours to accomplish it in.

Olaf grunts and shakes his head as he regains possession of all his senses. Suddenly he realizes his last clear memory, grabs his sword and jumps straight up - only to see his comrades talking casually and no danger in sight. He sheathes his sword again to rub his temples. "Can you fill me in about what happened? Most importantly, on whether it is over now?"

Olaf will notice the Hippocampus pulling out to sea still surrounded by the shady illusion you all are aware of.
Some of the group has moved into the woods, and Canidale spots where the orc was running. Tied to a tree here is an orcish horse. These are an interesting breed of mostly gray horses. They are sturdier than many human horses, built more like war horses. They have tufts of hair over their hooves, and their flowing mane and tail usually all match. This one's was black, but the orcish-grays tail, mane, and hoof-tuft color often ranged in color from black, white, to gray. They are known to be fierce warriors... if you knew anything about horses.

I could ride that...If it liked us...The taming of the horses was always left to the stable hands, I was just taught the basics of staying on a horse once it liked me. Tark thinks to himself. Then, Don't think I can ride that, he mutters.

The horse snorts and paws at the ground as Canidale nears it. This orc was trained not to like elves and humans, so Canidale would have to work a lot on this guy.

Olaf nods to Tark and answers while picking up and fastening his shield again. "Might not be a wise idea to try to tame it right now, too. For all we know, the savages could be using universal commands that will override whatever control we might gain over it. We could take it with us when we leave the isle, though." He looks through the underbrush for the fallen Orcs in an attempt to stabilize those who have not died yet. They might be picked up later, too.
