Breathe Fire (Sp)
A steamdraken can, once every 1d4 rounds, breathe a ball of fire. Treat this as a fireball spell, caster level 7th.

Breathe Water (Sp)
A steamdraken can, once every 1d4 rounds, emit a jet of cold water. Treat this as a polar ray spell, caster level 7th.

Bolt
A steamdraken carries a quiver of 20 bolts in its gullet. These bolts deal 1d6 damage plus 1d6 fire damage. Like a flaming burst weapon, they explode on a critical hit, dealing an additional 2d6 fire damage.

These bolts have a range increment of 40 feet.

Steam-powered Weaknesses
Like all steam-powered creatures (due to their dependencies on both fire and water), steamdraken react strangely to specific spells.

Any spell with the (Fire) descriptor causes a steamdraken to enter a rage for 1d4 rounds. Any spell with the (Cold) descriptor affects it as a slow spell for 1d4 rounds. Any spell that dispels, supresses, or breaks magical enchantments causes the steamdraken to shut down for the duration of the spell (or 1d4+1 rounds, if the duration is instantaneous). Mordenkainen's disjunction causes a steamdraken to become nonfunctional.

Steamdraken (it is both singular and plural) are constructs shaped like small dragons that run off of a steam-powered engine inside their stomachs. This steam engine (or "steng" as the Heliosundians call it) works through a combination of magic and technology. They weigh roughly 1700 pounds.

Inside each steamdraken is a ring of continual create water, as well as a small permanent gate to the Elemental Plane of Fire. The ring creates water, and the gate heats it, turning it into steam. The steam powers an engine inside the steamdraken, and it gains basic motor functions. Usually, the ring is placed in the back of the neck and is removable, effectively "turning off" the cheval when it is removed.

A steamdraken will follow orders, but has a mighty desire to destroy. A Heliosundian officer (or anyone bearing the control brooches given to Heliosundian officers) can command a steamdraken if they know the proper command words. Uncommanded, they act on their own accord and will work together with other steamdraken, Heliosundian soldiers, and even steamknights.

Nice! It's like a robot dragon, except steampunk.

Well, more magisteampunk, but you know. :) I'm working on more, as well as a Steamwarden character class.

Dragonmech has good rules for steam engines. Like immersion in water causes it not to work. I'll dig out the book

Gah! This thing looks like something a creepy wizard would make to have it hanging around on its lawn. Some kids walk up to it, thinking it's a cool lawn thing, and then bolt bolt chomp. Good job.

Change it to the old version, and you'll get a nice shiny "yes" vote.
