Hey everyone. I was just wondering what your most favorite cinema moment was. It could be something that hit you emotionaly, made you laugh your butt off, or even something that was portrayed extremely well. Anyways please share....here is mine

That part gives me the Chills every time I watch it. To me, I dont think there is any moment in any other movie that beats it.

The grand reveal of the conspiracy in Hot Fuzz:

Basically, a bunch of people get murdered in what looks likes a lone person's grandiose plot to stop commercial development for a competing supermarket.

Instead the people were murdered by the entire Neighorhood Watch Alliance to win the Village of the Year contest. The people were killed because
a) He stank at acting
b) She had an annoying laugh
c) He had a McMansion that wasn't in keeping with the rustic nature of the town
d) He was an editor of the once proud local newspaper with tons of bad spelling mistakes
e) She was a prized horticulturalist that was moving to another town and they didn't want her to spread her gifts.

What makes it completely awesome is the NWA are dressed in those "creepy conspiracy" brown robes with something that sounds like "ominous Latin chanting" in the background. They also mumble "the greater good" throughout each of the justifications.

The scene in Casablanca where the Victor Laszlo convinces the musicians to play La Marseillaise to drown out the Germans singing Die Wacht am Rhein. The Germans try to counter by singing louder, but pretty much everyone in the bar starts singing La Marseillaise as well, and the Nazis are silenced. They don't look very pleased.

Perhaps my favourite was something in a classic, but because most people are into the newer movies... the puppet fight scene in Stardust. I just like seeing that... Maybe I'm obsessed with seeing human puppets being forced to kill people, or maybe not. Either way it was fun to watch.

Okay, it wasn't my favourite. I just felt that it deserved a mention.

As for favourite moments... I really don't have one. Maybe... one of Gene Kelly's dance numbers in Cover Girl. The one involving himself and himself. Either that, or Fred Astaire's Ritz number in a different movie.

Fellowship of the Ring - The death of Boromir. Sean Bean is one of my favorite actors, and that death scene was beautifully done

Godfather, Part 2 - the scene where Kay confronts Michael about the lost baby. Al Pachino's acting is some of the most amazing I've ever seen, because while his face never really changes, you can watch his eyes, and you slowly become terrified, because you think he's about to kill her.

Schindler's List - The scene at the end, when Schindler begins to regret that he didn't do more. One of those few movie scenes that comes close to making my cry every time I see it

Hot Fuzz - The last half hour of the movie.

Momento - "So what am I doing? *Sees a guy running next to him* "Oh, I'm chasing this guy." *Gunshot* "No, wait...he's chasing me."

And - keeping in mind I hate this movie as much as the next guy - the Order 66 sequence from Revenge of the Sith was just masterful.

I don't go to the movies too often, but I'd have to say the first lord of the rings movie. When I saw that in theatres, with the huge screens and the surround sound...it was breathtaking. Absolutely gorgeous and awe inspiring. It's just not the same on the small screen :(

i can't even remember the movie now... something terrible (hence why i remember the following so well - it was far more entertaining, and worth the £4 i sort-of-paid to see the film)

teenage girl and her loud friends talking for the first 10 minutes of the film, despite many people asking them politely, and then not so politely to be quiet

then one of them starts talking on her phone

someone from the cinema comes in to tell them to be quiet or GTFO

they tell them, in a very impolite manner, "no" (the language used was a lot more colourful :smallwink: )

2 minutes later, a manager comes in they're told they have to leave

once again, impolitely, they tell them "no"

10 minutes later (a full half hour into a crummy film) 6 police officers show up, remove the loud mouthed ones to a standing ovation from all... and the manager offers everyone a refund for the inconvieniance

I fall asleep during a movie. The movie was actually quite good (Tarkovsky's Solaris) but it was very long, and since it was shown during a movie festival, and started somewhat around midnight, I fall asleep. I still regret this, as the movie is really good, and I don't think I will ever have the chance to see it on the big screen ever again.

As someone already mentioned, the final shootout in The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is amazing, but I prefer the scene right before it when Tuco (the Ugly) is searching the cemetery. The way he moves, the way the camera move, the music building up...

Any scene in anything when people walk in slow motion towards a camera, preferably while wearing an ankle-length coat of some sort and framed by something on fire. Tombstone does this perfectly. A Knight's Tale does it very well, too, given the lack of coats and fire.

And finally, the following kick-ass speeches of kick-ass-ery:

As for my nominations, I'd probably go with:

Fantasy: LOTR - Two towers: When Gandalf and the rohirrim arrive at Helms Deep.

Comedy: Austin Powers Goldmember. "There are two things in this world that I can't stand. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures... and the bloody dutch!" (That line makes me laugh EVERY time)

Adventure: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Indy and Short round escape from the spike room, and Indy reaches back in to grab his hat. Awesome.

Thriller/Horror: The final scene of Cloverfield. I simply sat there for 5 minutes, unable to process the emotions that scene conjured up.

No, it's from the end of Two Towers. Basically, the movie's closing statement, intercut with the end of the Battle for Helm's Deep.

Frodo: I can't do this, Sam.
Sam: I know. It's all wrong. By rights we shouldn't even be here. But we are. It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something.
Frodo: What are we holding onto, Sam?
Sam: That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo... and it's worth fighting for.

A lot of people say Two Towers is the "lesser" of the trilogy, but I think it had a lot more going for it than Return of the King. All of my favorite lines from the trilogy come from it.

Victor Laszlo leading the singing of La Marseillaise in "Casablanca" is probably the best moment in cinema history, and Charlie Chaplin's statement at the end of "The Great Dictator" is probably the best speech in any film or otherwise. But that's mostly for political/ideological reasons.

So saying that, my personal favorite moment has to be the Charge of the Rohirrim in "The Return of the King"--especially if we include "I am no man!" as the scene's overall climax. I'd also rate highly Michael Corleone's turn to evil (the restaurant scene) in "The Godfather" and the three-way Mexican Standoff in "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly."

A few of my favorite moments are from Star Wars.

From RotJ, Darth Vader's death scene. In the context of just the original trilogy, it was when we finally got to see the man in the armor. His acceptance of his death and trying to tell Luke that he had saved him in a way far greater than keeping his physical body alive.

From RotS, the final showdown between Obi Wan and Anakin. Mainly the exchange at the end. Seeing Obi Wan pour out his emotions to Anakin while Anakin shows how far he has fallen.

The Dark Knight had a few scenes I rank amongst the best as well. The scene where the Joker and Harvey have their chat in the hospital. Seeing the Joker prey on Harvey's weakness in that moment and help transform Gotham's white knight into a villain is great. Also, the final conversation between the Joker and Batman. It wonderfully summed up their relationship and really drove home (to me anyway) the loss of Heath with the comment about their battle going on forever.

In No Country for Old Men, the scene that gets me is where Anton talks with the gas station attendant. It helps show that Anton is definately a big believer in fate and that he has a few screws loose. A scary scene for a scary character.

Apocalypse Now likely has several scenes that qualify, but the one I would pick would be the helicopter attack on the beach. The whole thing is so the commander (Robert Duvall) can see a soldier who is a surfing star surf the waves next to the village. Some of the movie's better quotes are in this scene. Throw in the bombing run for a spectacular (real) explosion. All together it helps illustrate some of the insanity of that war.

For comedy, I would go with a scene from Anchorman. The movie had many funny moments, but when I saw the back alley anchorman brawl I laughed harder than I have at any other moment I have seen on screen. It just comes completely out of nowhere and things really escalate quickly. The conversation afterward is priceless as well. Comedy is hit and miss with me, but that scene had me doubled over in the theater.

I am sure there are others, but that's all I have got off the top of my head without massive repition of what others have already said.

As for actual moments at the cinema, I can't say I have a favorite but I do have a least favorite. I was on vacation with my family and we decided to watch Lethal Weapon 4 the weekend it came out. We went to the local theater that we had been to a few times in previous years. After buying the tickets the person at the counter started to tell us which theater it was in when she stopped for a moment. Then she said "Oh, that's in the small theater". I thought that was odd given that it just came out and it was almost guaranteed to be a high grossing movie. We got into the theater, which was quite probably the smallest theater I have ever seen. It was about the size of one in my friends fraternity house. It was packed. The real icing on the cake that pushes this one to the top was that the AC was out. The air was being moved by a circulating fan on a stand in the back of the theater. Every so often you felt a little cool breeze on the back of your neck. I would have left, but it was out of my control.

All of Princess Mononoke is one big mass of pure awesome, but a moment that sticks out in my mind is while San and Lady Eboshi are fighting, A****aka jumps down from the roof, bends Gonza's sword, and splits up two mortal enemies, with one arm each. And he gets bitten in the arm. And demon stuff is spilling off his arm.

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, Order 66. I cried.

300: Leonidas's spear throw. You know the one.

Kill Bill: Volume 1: the Bride coming for O-Ren Ishii. Everything from the Crazy 88 to the duel itself, the whole thing was mind-blowing. And bloody.

For comedy, I would go with a scene from Anchorman.

Personally, "I love lamp" still reduces my wife and I to tears and it comes up at least once a week (usually whenever someone on TV says "I love you").

And I distinctly remember that the bear-fight at the end had me laughing so hard I cried.

For me, it wasn't the spear throw that was impressive, it was the narration:

"His helmet was stifling. It narrowed his vision and he must see far. His shield was heavy. It threw off his balance and his target was far away."

Sent chills down my spine.

That scene alone -- its camerawork, its dialog, its deliberation -- blew me away the first time I saw it. I can't think of any scene in film more elegantly put together.

As a runner-up, the exchange between Butch and Marcellus at the end of "The Watch" segment in Pulp Fiction. I think trying to quote it here would be an exercise in futility.

And as an Honorable Mention, Doctor Strangelove's final schpiel before the bombs begin to fall. And the bomb-drop scene to Vera Lynn.
