Please correct me if my math is wrong here, but, because of the rules for creating magic items, at 6th level and up it is cheaper to buy a Persistant 1/day item than a Continous item of the same level. My math is below:

7x13x400=36,400 vs. 1x1x2000=2,000 --------1
8x15x400=48,000 vs. 2x3x2000=12,000-------2
9x17x400=61,200 vs. 3x5x2000=30,000-------3
10x21x400=84,000 vs. 4x7x2000=56,000------4
11x22x400=96,800 vs. 5x9x2000=90,000------5
12x23x400=110,400 vs. 6x11x2000=132,000---6
13x24x400=124,800 vs. 7x13x2000=182,000---7
14x25x400=140,000 vs. 8x15x2000=240,000---8
15x26x400=156,000 vs. 9x17x2000=306,000---9

Not best with math, but that makes sense.

Remember continous items that are dispelled come back in 1d4 rounds, but persisted ones are dispelled till you cast again next day.

That factor should matter for the price.

Aren't Epic Items x10 cost? Are did that go away in 3.5?

Level 10 and CL 21 persisted is quite a bit more expensive than the alternative if the cost is x10.

Yeah, I considered that, which means I'd generally stick with the continous.

But the 9th level ones are half the cost of the continous...so, yeah...I'd take that trade, especially as my DM has only tried to dispel my items once, and thats because he was getting annoyed with my Necromancer and sent Sazz Tahm to deal with me :smallbiggrin:

I didn't think that this applied... otherwise, it would be many times as expensive and therefore never used.

Nah, it applies. Check out the cost for stuff like an Amulet of Con +8 over at d20srd. Epic stuff is arbitrarily 10x more expensive. It's just that your suggested wealth *also* increases by a factor of 20 or so.

# Mimics a spell of an effective level higher than 9th.
# Has a caster level above 20th.

Persisted 1/day items have bad effects when dispelled.

Continuous, just shut down for a couple rounds.

Also when creating magic items the DM should make sure the continuous items don't replicate a already existing item. For example: You wish to create a continuous item of mage armor, thus giving you +4 armor bonus to AC all the time. I think using the guideline it costs around 2000 gp. However, bracers of armor +4 costs 16000 gp, which is the same item for all intents and purposes. Thus the rule for continuous should be taken with a pile of salt, applied only when no other means are present.

Before we knew of that rule we had items like belts of lesser vigor, boots of expeditious retreat, etc...
