:smile:Welcome To Random Banter! :smile:You like talking, yeah? We got talking :smallamused:

Random Banter! It's for all those topics you never thought you'd find a place for, all those news stories not quite worthy of their own topic, all those funny pictures that aren't really related to anything but still make you giggle like a pixie with a fresh batch of human slaves to stew for dinner (yes, pixies really do that. It's a long story how I found out and lived to tell about it)! And then, afterwards, discuss things. Not just say them, discuss them. As in "I like shoes!" "Me too!" not "I like shoes!" "BICYCLE STAMPEDE!!!"

Of course, just because it's a thread more or less designed for all those little tidbits of chaos that come to mind over time, doesn't mean we don't follow rules - oh no, we have rules, and we follow them. You will be eaten alive if you don't pay attention, or, as the situation may warrant, politely asked not to break the rules again.

Better yet, you could just read the rules and not break them.

Why didn't we think of that earlier...

Rules

1. Spam. For the purposes of RB, one word posts are generally considered spam. Likewise, posts that are nothing but *actions like this* are also be considered spam. Remember that the quality of the post's content is much better than the speed of your response.

2. This isn't the Play by Post or Town forum, nor is it the Silly Message Board Games or Structured Games forum. Please avoid continuous roleplay or mock battles and fights such as the "competition for control of the universe".

3. If it's already a thread, don't bring it to RB. RB has such a huge range of subject matter even restricted to the little snippets that probably don't warrant their own thread, it doesn't need legitimate thread topics cluttering it up as well. The exception to this is to bring something that is off-topic from one thread, but on-topic for RB and the subject doesn't warrant a thread of its own.

4. Don't advertise other threads in RB. Just because these new threads move at speeds more appropriate to a message board than an IM session doesn't mean you need to come over to RB and brow beat people into posting in your latest brainchild.

5. Please don't post single line posts alerting us to your current status -- as in "I'm back." This is Random Banter, not "How to stalk Random GitP forum members."

6. Don't poke, kick or bump the thread. It will move at whatever pace it wants to. Also, please refrain from Captain Obvious comments akin to "My, the thread is fast today."

7. Random Banter can only be as good, or as entertaining, as you make it. Demands to be entertained will fall on deaf ears unless you can add something more meaningful to the conversation.

8. As this is a public forum, where the current topic is nicely recorded for you, and not a conversation where you could have missed the beginning, please refrain from asking something to the effect of "What's the topic?". Please take the time to read up a bit first.

9. Thread Creator must include the words "Random" and "Banter" as well as the thread #. Try to be concise as well.

10. Every post should contain two visible, legible complete sentences, Subject and Predicate. C'mon, make your old English teachers proud.

11. Remember, Random Banter is not your IM client. If you want to have a back and forth discussion with just one person, look in their contact information for IM details.

12. Whenever a new thread is created, all "first post", "first page", and all posts of that nature will be deleted by the administrators. Please avoid doing this, as it is frustrating for them to deal with one-lined posts like this.

13. Double-posting is not your friend. We have edit buttons for a reason.

And here, linked for your convenience, are the previous incarnations of this thread.

As stated above, this thread is for random discussion, not random chit chat. That is to say, this is a forum, not your IM client. People have set up an unofficial IRC chat thingy for that sort of thing. Not only will you not annoy the people here, you will also help increase the popularity of the IRC chat.

So, banter away people!

Felixaar

Y'kno, I used to love peanut butter on a scale bordering obsession, but it's just kind of faded from my tastes now. Too... processed. Next time I visit back home I'm going to get some (home made? fresh? natural? organic?) peanut butter from the wholefoods store though, and see if I like that any better.

I'm totally on the Crunchy side of the Peanut Butter debate though. Crunchy all the way!

Ah, my intro, it has been changed. Oh well. It lasted through 2 threads that weren't mine.

Weirdly enough, I had a dream last night that TwoBit started the new RB, and I was all like "Wait a minute! It hasn't been 50 threads since your last one!" and I can't remember how the dream continued from there, other than it made little or no sense. I think some sort of secret agents were involved at some point.

Secret Agents? Sounds like something I'd write.

And yeah, well, I figured if I'm going to have my own Random Banter, it needs to have that sort of personal touch you can only get with a good old fashioned Bicycle Stampede.

If we had a bicycle stampede, what would it look like?

Thousands dead, with tread-marks of blood trailing. A small, pink number with beads flowing from the handlebars gives off a weak ringing sound as it hurries to catch up with the rest.

If we had a bicycle stampede, what would it look like?

A mixture of the Tour de France and the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona?

The real question is: if we had this, would there be people willing to try running alongside the bikes like they do the bulls?

This prevents you from having any why, exactly?

Well, in general, I don't eat a lot of peanut butter. We tried the thing where we bought a small jar of crunchy for myself, but I never think "Oh yeah, I want some PB&J!"

So it went largely unused. Ever since, we just stopped buying it.

Man... now I have a craving... and work just started...

I think I just got rejected out of the college course I wanted to take most.

Other courses are still available, if they aren't full already'

Yeah.....No direct saying I didn't get in.

The main problem is that I know I wanted to do this one and that I was going to like and want to work on it.

I like any type of peanut butter, but wounds are going to be inflicted to me due to enjoying the addition of fragments of peanuts added to creamy peanut butter.

All milk is bad IMAO. I was allergic to milk for 12 years, (NOT LACTOSE INTOLERANT. DIFFERENCE HERE PEOPLE... Lactose Intolerance, in most cases, mean milk will make you throw up or get a rash in most cases.

Peanut butter onslaught:Might be enough for you to get the "Old-fashioned" peanut butter which lacks... Emulsifiers(?) to keep everything perfectly uniform, so that the peanut oil will slightly separate out and needs to be mixed up a bit every so often. that's what my friend's mom prefers to main-stream peanut butter, anyway.

Wait, so you're saying that peanut butter can be obtained in Australia now? Hmm, I might have to rescind my ban on travelling there for an extended amount of time... Peanut butter being one of the sources of my power, after all.

Actually, one of my grandmother's brothers (g-uncle) is a peanut farmer as well as the manager/head of some kind of co-op of peanut farmers in that area. So I'm kinda obligated to love peanuts and peanut butter, my only out would've been if I were allergic, in which case I might not have survived the first family reunion anyway....

I prefer creamy peanut butter for general use, such as sandwiches but value crunchy peanut butter for special uses such as when I'm adding peanut butter and a twist of lime and crushed pepper to my ramen or making peanut butter cookies.

That reminds me though... I've still yet to come up with a recipe for Peanut-Cheese bars from Earthbound yet... My first attempt involved melting cheese into bar form with peanuts distributed throughout the matrix, but the effect of the cheese being melted and cooled caused the peanuts to lose their crunch and take on softer texture, almost waxy.... So currently I'm thinking about taking cream cheese and crunchy peanut butter, using a low-setting on a blender or simply folding them into one another(for a more marbled effect), and then freezing the resulting mixture in trays to get them to set.

...Did you manage to have a jar of peanut butter go unused for long enough to go bad, Tooby?

And yes, I've had nutella, it's good with peanut butter, but only when spread onto those british-style biscuits which would be called cookies in the US... Actually, nutella seems to demand a slightly crisp texture from what it's eaten with, in my experience.

As far as jam goes, I love blackberries, but if I've had my grandmother's blackberry jam in the past 6 months, all other blackberry preserves pale in comparison. Elderberry is a close second which I find to be similar in taste to blackberries without having the unfortunate competition with my nostalgia. Then strawberry then raspberry. Linden or Lingon berries I have yet to experience though.

It would definitely be interesting to try milk flavored with blackberry syrup... I'm trying to think of whether I've seen blackberry syrup before.... even if it might have been only for pancakes.

Monsieur Mud: How are you allergic to milk for 12 years as if it were only a finite, temporary(albeit, for a fairly long time) thing?

Recaiden

I'm going to have to agree with blackberries being better. They have a much stronger, fruitful flavor than strawberries, although strawberries are still exceedingly good.

Allergies: I don't think it's possible for a human to be allergic to human milk; however, the mothers of children with food allergies usually can't eat the foods to which their children are allergic because they end up in the milk.

Fun fact: breast milk's composition changes based on the child's needs. If the baby is battling a cold, the milk supplies antibodies to help.

The human body is amazing.

She may have been allergic to chocolate when she was younger or her father just lied to her in order to save money or something, since when she had some last year for the first time in forever she didn't even have a psychosomatic reaction to it...

^: Yes. Yes Deary. I'd forgotten that it did that as a special reaction rather than as a sort of constant thing though.

And barring spices that's actually a subset of cranberry sauce, actually... Well, there's the jelly/jello kind, the kind which is more like sweet and sour sauce with cranberries and spices in it.... and the kind which is basically crushed cranberries with spices.

Also, you haven't known allergy pain until you've been clawing off your beard due to the cat hair that got stuck in it.... since the bleeding just makes it worse due to it getting into the blood stream along with the beard and cat hair aggrivating the wounds themselves without the allergic part. Sure, peanuts are lethal, but they don't quite have the blood everywhere potential of other things.

Or do us a favor and teach this nation's children. Rather than get everyone riled up about... I don't even know anymore.

In any event, we need more teachers so that statistically we can more easily cull a larger number of good teachers when we have the teacher apocalypse.

Well, I may as well play catchup.

Oh. We're talking Zelda?

I've finished Ocarina of Time (my first exposure to Zelda) 100% each time on an emulator, on the N64, and on the GameCube. I have both the collecter's disk and the bonus disk.

I've finished Ocarina of Time: Master Quest 100% on the GameCube.

I've finished Majora's Mask 100% on an emulator (save states ftw) and completed it without getting every trophy on the GameCube.

I've finished Wind Waker on the GameCube, it could be considered 100%, except I haven't done all the pictograph/statues.

Finished Twilight Princess on the Wii, I haven't had time to go back and get everything 100% yet.

I've also finished A Link to the Past, can't remember what percentage.

---

The first two Zelda games are indeed on one of the bonus/collector's disks that you can get for the GameCube. Between the two disks, they had (with some overlap) Ocarina of Time, Ocarina of Time: Master Quest, Majora's Mask, The Legend of Zelda and Zelda 2.

My accomplishments for Zelda are as follows:

I have finished Ocarina of Time on the N64

I've finished Majora's Mask on the N64, and got every single mask

I've finished Wind Waker only once of the Gamecube.

As for handhelds, I've also completed the non-linked game for Oracle of Seasons for the GBC, finished Link's Awakening DX, but lost the cartridge, the Minish Cap for GBA, and Phantom Hourglass for the DS, but I have not obtained every single ship part.

So I just found myself sealed out of my dorm building by a busted front door and a blocked off side-door. That was an annoying 15 minutes as I figured out what to do with myself before calling the campus police whose keys managed to unlock the front door manually, even if the keycard part is busted.

It was kinda annoying because the doors broke in the evening, so we had to prop open the side door to keep it from auto-shutting, and then when I got back from playing far too much mass effect last night, the door was not only no longer propped open, but had both sets of locks locked rather than the usual baseline of one...

On a positive note, I chortled quite merrily at the delivery of the line "Tin-foil mini-skirt" so I'm not too upset by my inconvenience earlier.

Also, saw push in the dollar movie theater... It'd been so long since I"d been in one that I forgot how the sound quality will be variable so that it sounds like a record being scratched at times... Also, the floors are much stickier than I remember them being as a kid.

VDHSFBUOIIRSJ. There goes about two hours of gameplay down the drain. Game froze on me. I need to remember to save more often. *facepalm*

I have to smack my friends about saving more often when I'm over and they're playing a game...

And then when they disregard my reminder they end up losing their stuff. And then they do it occasionally even when I'm not there to forewarn them. I seem to have a similar effect with being around when street lights are going to burn or brown out.... Rather freaked out some of my friends who were known to be out in the dark when street lights were on a fair bit...

Thankfully such tragedy is not too common of an occurence in my circle...

V Fred: Well, that's a line from Mass Effect, but it references retro science fiction's penchant for... well, "Shiny Future Clothes" Plus I'm sure there's some kind of perverse innuendo to a woman being wrapped in a tin foil mini skirt...

Good morning fnuts, and remember, tinfoil is for external cranial application only!

Today the sunshine is bright, but the wind snatches any warmth it might hold away, and it's bloody difficult to stand in the moment and reflect when the wind assures that no one moment holds still long enough to be appreciated. Seas are calmer than this, and seas hold the sacred and calming water. Here there's nothing but change and land.

This is a startling inversion of the natural order. Change belongs to the seas as well as to the air, where in runs along as a fish and a bird, unable to speak, but full of knowledge.
Aluminum foil though, has versatility. Changeable as the ground, but light as the water.

Well, I kind of hit the jackpot.

Recently, I've been binging on Left 4 Dead, playing with Shamus Young of Twenty Sided.

For those of you who haven't been to his site, why the hell haven't you been to his site. Here. Comic (http://www.shamusyoung.com/twentysidedtale/?p=612). Read. About 15 strips in, when it sort of settles into the characters, it transforms from amusing to funniest damn thing ever. The rest of the site is equally awesome.

Anyway, I mentioned Vatsy and Bruno (http://www.chocolatehammer.org/?page_id=551), my short story, and he actually linked it from the front page. The day before, I'd gotten 42 uniques on the site. That day, I got about 1050.

So, I just got a haircut.

In other news, I am going to try to force myself to:

-read
-write
-work on art
-practice music
-work out

Every day.

We'll see how that turns out.

And in more other news, the best video ever. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_QAPjtO2cA)

Hey, does anyone around here have any advice on how to relieve the pain of a sore neck? Mine is pretty much the meaning of pain right now, and that does not make me happy.

Anaesthatize yourself with a copia of cheap liquor. You'll wake up feeling worse, but the few hours before you pass out and lie in a dreamless stupor in exactly the same position for nine hours will be ****ing fantastic.

Do you have any advice that I can use while my dad is in the house.
