Hey guys, me again. Anyway, in our next DND 3.5 campaign I will be playing a pirate, and we will be playing across multiple planes, also the most likely starting level is 6, which is enough for 5 in swashbuckler (complete warrior) and 1 in dread pirate (complete adventurer). I know about the appraise prereq. and its a house-rule of ours that we can use a feat to make a cross-class skill into a class skill, so thats not an issue. I was just wondering if anyone had ever tried this before, and if anyone had any suggestions. Also, the ship is taken care of, a Planar Sailor, and 6th level means leadership for the crew. Thanks in advance fellow pirates of the playground.

I'm beginning to wonder if I should be scared, I seem to be the only pirate in a large community of ninjas.....

I would try a fighter build that allows you to use cutlasses or something. That was you get all 10 million fighter bonus feats from the get go so you can do some weird stuff that way. I've never done anything with pirates so I'd have to look some stuff up...

Well, first you have to get the mercane shill in place...

Oh, play as. Sorry, just ignore me...

I'm an oddball and not too big on feats, seeing as how I have the memory-span of a deck of cards, they tend to overcomplcate things, but a few are nice, and from just being a swashbucler and dread pirate you automatically get weapon finesse and two-weapon fighting.

Would you be all right with Swashbuckler 3 / Fighter 2 / Dread Pirate 1? I'm not familiar with the prerequisites for DP, but I assume you still qualify for it, and 2 bonus feats is more useful than Dodge (especially since you can just take the Dodge feat with one of your fighter levels).

How does this help with piracy in any way?

It doesn't, necessarily, but it helps with the "planar" part.

More the planar part than piracy

That's a pretty good idea.

So far I'm liking the fighter swashbuckler idea, so I may end up going with that, but any more opinions or tips are welcome.

Is anyone else picturing a flying pirate ship going through portals? It's like a crazy combination of Peter Pan and the Orange Box.

All I can see are flying Galleons duking it out in the endless abyss of the Astral Plane...

Actually, I'm totally seeing Gerard & crew aboard the Weatherlight, of M:tG fame.
