Had this idea come to me last night. Wanted to see what you all thought of it. Wording issues? I know some of the wording may be awkward. Level adjustment about right?

Blood Priests:

The Blood Priests are a symbiotic race. No one knows whether they come from beyond the stars or from a distant plane. What ever their origins, it is clear they evolved in a very different environment. In their natural form, they appear as a cloud of blood red mist roughly three feet in diameter. While they can survive indefinitely in this form, most often they are found bound to a living host. For it is only bound in a host that they are able to use their psionic abilities.
All Blood Preists have ranks in psionic classes and only psionic classes. While psions are slightly more favored than wilders, both are considered equals in Blood Priest society – the mental and the emotional to balance each other. Their exact numbers are unknown but it is likely there are but a handful. Certainly, no more than a two-dozen in all.
Blood Priests rarely travel together. Upon meeting each other, they often only spend a few nights together sharing information before parting ways. Much of it simply personal information, of no real meaning except between friends who have not seen each other in many years. However, when they do decide to travel together for extended periods of time one can be sure that world changing events are afoot.
• + 2 Int, +2 Wis
• Medium Sized (or as per the host)
• Fly Speed 10 ft. with perfect maneuverability (or as per the host).
• Power resistance equal to 11 + class levels. When inhabiting a host, the host also receives the benefit of this ability unless it already possesses power resistance. Then the host may use the higher score.
• Expansive Knowledge (Ex): As they learn new information, Blood Priests are able to see the relationship between seemingly unconnected facts. They gain a +2 racial bonus on all knowledge check per knowledge skill with 5 or more ranks. For example, a Blood priest with 5 ranks in knowledge (arcane), 5 ranks in knowledge (the planes), 5 ranks in knowledge (history) and 4 ranks in knowledge (nature) would gain a +6 racial bonus all on knowledge checks.
• Misty Form (Ex): In their natural form, Blood Priests have a Strength score of 1 that may not be raised or lowered by any means. They are unable to wear any equipment, carry any possessions, use any skill that requires appendages, or perform any action that requires appendages. They are unable to communicate except through nonverbal means such as their own native language or through some form of telepathy.
But the world has little power to harm them either. In their natural form they receive damage reduction 20/magic, blindsense and fast healing 5. They are immune to poison, sleep effects, paralysis, stunning, disease, and critical hits
• Symbiotic (Su): Blood Priests can only join with a creature that is at the point of death. In game terms, that means a creature with negative hit points. Once they do so, they lose their Misty Form, its damage reduction, blind sense, fast healing and immunities. They loose any capability for independent movement, rendering they Strength, Dexterity and Constitution scores meaningless.
They may only inhabit a willing host, but as bonding with a Blood Priest is often a lifesaving measure few decline. The Blood Priest enters the host through their wounds and takes up residence in their blood. During the initial stages of bonding, the host and the Blood Priest develop a mindlink with the host. This mind link is unbreakable by any means; not even antipsionic fields, wish spells or epic spells can negate this mindlink.
In bonding with a host, the host immediately stabilizes as the Blood Priest works to mend their wounds. The host gains fast healing 2, a +5 enhancement bonus on saves against poison and disease, and immunity to mind-affecting spells and effects.
It is only while bonded that Blood Priests gain access to their psionic abilities. They are able to use their psionic abilities in combat while their host can use their own abilities in combat. Thus, once bonded a Blood Priest, and their host, create a formidable foe capable of launching psionic attacks at the same time as a physical or magical, or launching to simultaneous psionic attacks. The host and Blood Priest must each roll for their own initiative.
All damage taken is taken solely by the host. It is only once the host dies, that the Blood Priest may flee the host’s body. This process takes 1d4 rounds and the Blood Priest is reduced to half his/her hit point total.
• Automatic Language: Blood Priest (In their natural form, they communication with each other through subtle shifts in their shape, hue and opaqueness by changing the shifting density of the mist that forms their bodies.) Bonus Languages: Any.
• Favored Class: Psion & Wilder (These are the only two base classes a Blood Priests may choose).
• Level Adjustment: +2

Is this race meant for PC use?

What is the creature type? Does it change when it bonds?

Does it act independently of the host (ie can it use psionic abilities while the host is off doing whatever on the same turn?)

Is there any way to harm the Blood Priest while it is bonded?

Maybe put a HD limit on the creatures it can bond with, and perhaps a way for the creature to resist? The blood priest could dominate its host to gain total control, yes? Is there a way for the host to force the symbiont out?

And why aren't they snakes that claim to be gods? :smalltongue:
