I've been discussing how to build a good summoner-flavoured Conjourer with a friend. We got onto feats quickly enough, and we discussed the merits of Spell Focus (Conjouration), Augment Summoning and Beckon the Frozen (from Frostburn).

After that, we kind of ran out of ideas.

Any suggestions, boys and girls?

Metamagic School Focus (Conjuration), i think it's from complete arcane/mage.

Imbued Summoning, from PHBII IIRC

Cloudy Conjuration (CArc I believe, maybe Cmag) is very good.

Empower spell. Imbue Summoning.

Don't summon the biggest thing you can.

Imbue (+1)
Empower (+2)
Steps (+1 or 2)

Now, rather than summoning a single big creature, you summon (D4+1)x1.5 (3 to 7) creatures of 5 lower levels imbued with the 3rd level touch spell of your choice. If your DM is somewhat lenient, as a level 6th spell, this means you can summon 3 to 7 of the creatures in Summon Monster I... each marked with explosive runes dealing 6D6 force damage with no save, plus AoE.

You can make moving walls of daylight or darkness.

Displacement to create very hard to hit creatures rather than rely on the higher hitpoints.

Invisibility sphere will allow you 7 creatures each with a 10 foot radius of invisibility, giving you the ability to cloak a hell of a lot of people.

Vampiric Touch will let you immediately summon and drain 3-7 critters for 10d6 a piece, giving you a hell of a lot of temporary HP if the DM classes it as a single attack.

You get the idea. though I'd also advise as single level of Cleric and Divine Metamagic + Extra Turning as feats, letting you do that above tricks without raising the levels of your spells too much.

In addition you could take domains like Summoning (+2 Caster level for conjuration spells), Dragon Below (Free Augment Summoning Feat), Meditation (Free empower 1/day), or even be cheeky about it and do anything that gives you summon nature's ally as a spell and "Know Nature" as an in class skill.

Take 4 points in Know(Nature) and you'll be able to spontaneously convert your spells to Summon Nature's Ally spells from then on by taking the Spontaneous summoner feat from CDiv.

Lots of fun stuff, but much of this depends on DM leniency, but as a level 9 spell you can be summoning 7 invisible chaos beasts which wreak Havoc on a crowd on their first attack on flatfooted opponents. Within a couple of rounds the enemy is coated in chaos beasts, and thanks to invisibility sphere, doesn't know which ones are allies turned and which are enemy summons.

If you get summon nature's ally, you classify for greenbound summoning (from lost empires of faerun) which adds the greenbound template (same book) to any animal you summon.

Greenbound adds, among other things, +6 natural armor, some spell like abilities (entangle at will), DR 10/magic and slashing, fast healing 3, +6 Str, +2 Dex, +4 Con, and +4 Cha.

Hmm. Arcane Disciple (Animal Domain) gets you SNA when you get 4th level spells. Then you can take Spontaneous Summoner as your 9th level feat, and then take your Ashbound/Child of Winter/Greenbound Summoning nonsense as you desire. Which doesn't actually seem all that good.

Does Spontaneous Summoner specify that it has to be a divine spell? Or can a Wizard 3/Druid 1 convert a 2nd level arcane spell into SNAII?

EDIT @v Abrupt jaunt is badass. Not very summoner-themed, but badass.

You can convert your wizard spells no problem, the real downside is that you can only do it a number of times per day equal to your Wisdom Score.

In a similar vein you can use Heal spells in the same way with spontaneous healer, which if you're taking my cleric advice, you already qualify for it if you take 4 points of Know religion and are nonevil.

OH! And importantly, don't forget your three UA variant conjurers.

The first allows you to sacrifice any spell in favour of a lower level Summon Monster spell. You lose your bonus spell per day for specializing in Conjuration.

You can also sacrifice all your wizard feats in favour of the other variant too:
This gives you Augment summoning instead of Scribe Scroll.
Then an additional +2 to str and con for your summons which stacks with Augment summoning at level 10 and 20. (Total of +8 for Augment then the two bumps).
At level 5 and 15, your summons gain +2 to resist dispel checks (+4 final).

You can then lose your familiar in favour of either:
Rapid Summoning: Summoning Spells are a Standard Action, not a full action.
OR
Abrupt Jaunt: 10' immediate teleport useable IntMod times per day.
