I pick v2. Was this based on rats?

Alteran

I pick V2 as well. I don't know 3.X stats very well, so I rolled a d6 and divided by two. Hey, evolution certainly has an element of chance, I'm just here to represent that. :smalltongue:

Yes they are.
I might try another seed monster next time but these looked simple.

I pick V3. more hp can't really hurt

Flickerdart
2009-04-18, 09:51 PM
Middle guy's +5ft speed will let him run away from anything faster than his friends who get eaten. That extra HP doesn't do #3 any good.

I vote #2.

I like Version #3.

This should prove to be an interesting contest. I like this as a variant of normal VUAX polls.

As for mutation recommendations, give these guys a means of survival other than running away. Or make that better. Light-speed rat swarms! No one is safe!

From what I can see the mutations are

v1 - darkvision
v2 - extra speed
v3 - extra HP

based on that I'll vote for v3, that seems like an important aspect to try and raise up fairly quickly.

#2 should get some sort of poison or disease ability. It could poison prey, run away and then feast on the remains. Maybe give it Scent or a racial bonus to Survival checks when tracking poisoned prey.

You're going to need to be patient, these contests usually take at least two days per stage. People aren't on the forum all day.

Regardless, the forces of chance have decreed that V1 shall be victorious.

At least bold the changes each time.

For those of you who are having trouble, v1 causes diseases, v2 has Dodge, and v3 has 5 Str (as opposed to 2).

Ooh that's what v3's difference is. I couldn't tell, because the damage modifier wasn't changed.

I think I'll vote for version 3, because I don't like disease (sticks around too long. Poison is okay, though), and I don't really like Dodge on a monster.

Possible mutations next round:

Small-scale acid breath.
Secretes acid.
Spell-like ability (like acid arrow)
Natural armor (possibly of acid)

You're trying to make a dragon aren't you?
Well it won't work! or maybe it will

Ooh that's what v3's difference is. I couldn't tell, because the damage modifier wasn't changed.

Oops. Fixed that for you .

Variant 1 is a size larger; as such, it has reach, +1 AC, and 3 more HP on average, but takes a -4 penalty to its Hide skill.
Variant 2 can Move Silently with far greater ease, its bonus increasing from +10 to +17.
Variant 3 has a greater climb speed, increasing from 15 ft. to 25 ft.

I'm going to go against the clear winner and vote for Variant 3, simply because the possibilities seem more interesting that way. We have plenty of unusually large plague-bearing rat monsters, but few of them can brachiate.
