Alright you lot of cutters, I figure there are a few bloods amongst the lot of you, so what's the chant from before there were tieflings? Is the Lady as barmy as the chant goes? What happened to the old power Aoskar? Why is a god on the Spire barmy? Come on, I suspect not all of you are primers; maybe one or two crafty cagers out there with their ear to the chant, not a lot of conys. Let's get the Great Chant together and see if we can't peel a berk or two.

It's Sigil slang, from the second edition Planescape setting. That was before my time, sadly, but I think the gist of it is: "Are there any other obsessive Planescape fans who want to talk about the setting and make everyone else wonder what the hell we're on about?" :smallamused:

Ah, okay, I think I understand now. He is speaking a dead language. Is perchance this "Sigil slang," as you call it, an ancient dialect of Latin?

I don't know Latin.

Anyway, tell this Latin-speakin' foriegner, "Hello, welcome to our country!", I mean, if you understand his language, as you seem to do. I sure as heck can't make anything out of its crazy backward clicks and grunts.

Oi cutter, not many willing to rattle their bone-boxes about the Cage these days. The dark on the Lady's no quite clear, but listen to the chant and you get some details. Before we start cutter, best to remember that the Lady is as barmy as they say. Don't ignore her, don't annoy her, and most importantly DON'T worship her. Doin' any of these three and you'll be mazed quicker than a Chaosman in the Sensorium. What else you lookin' to learn cutter? And do you have any jink to pique my interest?

I'll be running a Planescape campaign with all my 2ed books, but with 3.5 rules. I suspect it won't actually be too hard, I just want the campaign feel and setting.

A heartfelt thank you for reminding me of that site, I hadn't thought of it since high school (it looks like it hasn't been updated since I was in high school either...)

Barmy sods, letting the chant slip their boneboxes... Peeling berks is fine, long as no one gets wrote in the dead book. Not got the time to be swinging from any leafless trees, especially if the Lady's involved. Pike that, got too many.. clients? in the cage, and [more of the same]

The piking conies are cagestruck is what it is.

Anywho... I find that mixing in a bit of the original cant that Cage-speak is based off of works pretty well. This (http://www.fromoldbooks.org/NathanBailey-CantingDictionary/A/) might be useful.

Ah, it's been a while since I sold my Planescape boxed set...and I'm really regretting it. I'm currently brainstorming a PS revamp for 4e. [Yeah I know it's already there, and I'll eventually read the 4e MotP, but it'll likely be dissapointing.] 2e didn't get it quite right, 3e did worse and 4e isn't likely to get it just the way I want PS to be either.

Well, 'ere's a Primer on the Sigilian Cant fer' all you clueless out there. Off in some backwater Prime goes by the name of 'Earth' there was this Kingdom, England they called it, Center of the Sodding Multiverse fer' all they knew. One o' the darkest darks old greybeards're spilling says The cant actually came from this lil' backwater, something called "Cockney Rhyming Slang."

It's screed of course, that the Cant came from anywhere but Sigil, that some burg called "London" was the model for Sigil itself. I mean, ken you imagine?! It's enough to drive a Berk Barmy to the Spire.

Now, Iffin' I catch any one of you clueless taking that fer' Thoth's own truth, or worse yet, rattlin' yer bone-boxes like ye' 'eard if from me, well, you'll be missin' a few jaw-dice 'afore I'm done wit'a ya.

Oi, cutter! Good to see another cager-Adam around here. These addle-coved rubes wouldn't know a good settin' if it came up and bit them. They'd all go barmy to the Spire if they tried. Think we're all bally! Ye should head on down to the Planewalker; they've got the latest issue of the Lady's Chant out, after so many years. No chant on the Lady ever sent Wizards went stag on us. Can't tell you much on the Lady. Word on Aoskar is that she made him bite the iron. Most of what you hear is a piece of cake, don't y'know? Y'want rumors, you'd be cross-piking to the branches I give you below. Hope ye earn a page from em', in case you ain't already fingered em'. Well, 'fraid I've got to go kiss the succubus in bed. Et Voila!

Well, for any of you bashers lookin' to become bloods, and of the PC gaming persuasion, there's no finer mimir than Planescape Torment. The Chant is it's out of circulation, but the dark of it is you can find it if you're willing to bend the rules. Just be careful, we wouldn't want any Mercykillers mountin' you on the Leafless Tree.

Any other planar dirt worth digging for us uneducated and uninitiated chaps and chapesses? If you can't get some people to play a Planescape game, you could try digging up a copy of Planescape: Torment (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planescape_Torment), one of the better D&D computer games (especially as far as capturing the setting goes, which is the important part here.)

EDIT: Ha, ninjaed.

The more I read about Planescape (before 3rd came out, anyway) the more I felt like D&D wasn't a very good fit for it. Like something like Mage: the Ascension might be better.

A while ago it occurred to me that Mutants & Masterminds would be a really good fit for Planescape, it's flexible enough to handle all the crazy creatures that inhabit the planes, and gives the players much more flexibility to explore the possibilities of Planescape.

Well-lanned cagers know that any basher who twigs to takin' a ride with the "Three-point-x" faction, everything he needs is writ up by the Planewalkers (http://www.planewalker.com). Don't cost you no jink, neither.

Not quite. Sigil Cant is based on 18th century London slang.

Lackwit Rhyming Slang (http://www.cockneyrhymingslang.co.uk/) is largely a formalisation of 19th century East London barrow boy argot. It uses common referents and word replacement to confuse and/or annoy the hell out of people not au courant with it (it's entirely typical of London in that respect). :smallwink:

Apples => apples and pears => stairs
Take a Butchers => butchers hook => look

(I'm a Guv'ner, so I don't have to talk like an eejit. :smalltongue: )

Spoiled sport :smallamused:

I've always wanted to take my chance at some serious plane-hopping, but alas, it was far before my role-playing time. Now, I know a fair share about the general layout of the planes, blood war, Lady of Pain, and the like, but I fear I'll never get a chance to look up the old-school Planescape books :smallfrown:

This:

Translation:
You'll find everything you need to play planescape in 3e right here. (http://www.planewalker.com/editorial-section/30/35-pscs) And it's completely free.

Well, if ye want the wigwag on tieflings, dirty haloes, and newt powers, you'll want to head on down to the Musee Arcane. There's a whole gad of dark just rottin' for ye. It's why we cagers say 'before there were tieflings'.

Well, I can put the Rule-of-Three to the Lady, so that may come up in the by-and-by. No jink to be had now, but giving the chant to some prime bashers means they owe, and every cager knows you don't blink the Balor. Anyways, they don't know what's what, so we can swap chant like proper bloods down on the mart. Your spiral-dancing troubes are good for some addle-coved primes, but we can hash out more than what every berk put in the deadbook knows.

Barmies, don't feed the poor sods grail. They'll be parkin' their ears to any screed 'cause 's all stype to 'em. I've the worms to wigwag in their Primer talk:

Anyone with Planescape questions, feel free to send me a PM, as I still have all of the original books. All of them. I've also been doing a proper 3.X expansion/rebuild of the planes (it's going slowly, but it's going.)
