Tomorrow, Saturday 25th April, is World Malaria Day (http://www.rbm.who.int/worldmalariaday/). Around the world, a million people die of this disease each year, and hundreds of millions get sick from it. Children grow up anaemic through persistent infection eating away at their blood from within, and people get brain damage, splenomegaly, or other horrible manifestations. It's even driven human evolution in strange directions, spawning further diseases such as sickle cell anaemia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sickle-cell_anemia) and the thalassaemias (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thalassemia). Let's push it back: to this end, please buy some nets (http://www.madnessagainstmalaria.com/geekdom) to protect people against infection, and give them quiet nights into the bargain.

Ahh, Malaria. My most hated of diseases. I'm actually working at a lab this summer for an internship and will be dissecting mice and stuff for Malaria research. Counting T-cells and everything. Please DO help with this.
