It would seem I've run out off room in my two posts in the first thread, but not ideas. So, I'm starting a new thread, with plenty of space to add new feats in. Feats from the first thread are going to be reposted after the blanks.

You must have line of sight and effect to the targets of this ability. Any enemy that fails a Will save, DC 10 + 1/2 your Knight level + your Cha mod, can target you alone with his spells for the rest of his encounter. You must be the only target of any offensive spell he casts, even if the spell could target more creatures. He may not aim area spells such that you are not damaged, nor may he aim them such that other creatures are damaged.

If you are reduced to 0 points or fewer by a spell cast by an enemy subject to this challenge, you gain one additional use of your Knight's Challenge ability, your confidence bolstered by your knowledge you have challenged a worthy foe. If you do not use this extra use in 24 hours, you lose it. You may gain only one such extra use a day.

Any enemy that fails a Will save, DC 10 + 1/2 your Knight level + your Cha mod, must follow the Knight's Code for the rest of the encounter or become afraid. Whoa... that IS a lot of feats....

Test of Magic
You challenge magic users to exclusively target you.
Requirements: Daunting Challenge
Benefit: As a swift action, you may expend one daily use of your Knight's Challenge ability to issue a challenge to all spellcasters with a CR no less than your character level minus two that possess a language within 100 ft. of you.

I can imagine it now...
Knight: I challenge thee, wizard!
Wizard: Okay. Heightened Maximized Empowered Scorching Ray
Knight: AAAAAAaaaaaaarrrrrrrgh.... *Dies*

Seriously, don't tick off the spellcaster.

But every HMESR the Knight takes is an HMESR his allies don't take, and that's more or less the point of the class.

Not if it gives your allies time to take him out unharmed. Knights have d12 HD, so as long as they're friends with the party cleric, things should go well.

"Go for the eyes Boo, go for the eyes!"

Does Opportunistic Spell make it a swift action to cast, so that you can make an AoO? If so I like it.

Overcome Racial Weakness seems cool.

Poison Expert: might be better represented in conjunction with a sneak attack or sudden strike. That way the poison is that much closer to their vitals.

This is probably a really well thought out thread that you put a lot of work into. I just look at that and think can I be bothered. Some of the ones look interesting. I was disapointed that those sealmarked feats for Warforged had nothing to do with seals but that's all in my head. Becoming Honour incarnate from a feat? Some of those names a bit pretentcious. Prince of Nightmares is another one, there's probably a demon prince of nightmares who is angry you're claiming his title just because you took a feat. That Gun Kata feat is pointless because any exotic firearms you'd get would be matchlocks and therefore reload slower than a crossbow. Heal the faithful is basically a weaker version of an echlesiach ability.

Okay, I'm sure I must have missed some better ones.

Err, yes it does. You are marked with the seal of a Vestige. Seems fairly self-explanatory.

Okay, the names are a wee bit over the top. Better than Disco Bandit, though.

No one says you have to use matchlocks. You could get something that uses a magazine and go to town with a Flurry of Bullets.

Yeah, pretty much.

Except if your allowing magazines you might as well play d20 modern where there are no monks and there's a lightning shot ability that is flurry but only with guns. I suppose if you had Quick draw you could do what a certain dwarf pirate in Warhammer fantasy does and just use a fresh matchlock with any shot.

I'm not going to ask about the disco bandit feat...

There was a girl in Trigun who used that trick as well. As for d20 modern, I've never played, but I could see plenty of ways to have advanced firearms in a game while maintaining a fantasy set.

Whew! Whole lot to absorb. Some fabulous ideas here!

The limitations of Vendetta may need more clarification. Most nations have a hierarchy and leader. So does Hell, probably.

Since the Gun Kata implies a specific background, shouldn't it be a 1st level feat?

Am I reading Moribund spell to mean that ALL the spells a character has cast go off - presumably in the sequence they were cast? So...a 17th level cleric could moribund-cast True Resurrection on herself? Sort of like contingency, but very specific. At the very least, you may want to specify the order in which the spells go off, and if there's any way to remove a spell from the queue that might get built up.

I'm not sure how Vicious Trip is better than Improved Trip. Say I'm a 6th level fighter with improved trip. With my first iterative attack, I trip an opponent, and then follow up with a regular strike. Don't I still have my second iterative attack, which I can use either against him or another target?

Since most bards I know use one instrument almost exclusively, Virtuoso is actually a pretty heft feat.I rarely play bards, so don't have a good sense of how overbalancing it is.

The metamagic feats that lower a spell's caster level are screaming out for combinations that will break them.At the very least, you should clarify that it does not permit a character to cast spells higher than their maximum level (so, a 5th level cleric can't slow-cast a 4th level spell) unless that's your intent.

Recycle Spell - interesting idea. I'm assuming that this feat can be taken multiple times...

Good luck with this list!

Wow, that is a lot of feats. Ill bold the feats I mention specifically.

I liked the first bout of flaws except for unskilled(feats need to be STRONG penalties if they are to work). Unskilled doesnt pack the punch of many of the others. For most characters -1 isnt much of a penalty, and they wont be using many skills other than the ones they pump anyway.

Metamagic Critical Double + good.

Penetrating Spell Much much much too good. Even though for high level casters SR can be negated, this allows any spell to be cast on spell immune monsters such as golems. Combined with no save spells this is just devastating.

Cruel Critical Probably too good. It has a lot of pre-requisites, but high critical numbers already have issues, this exasterbates them.

Sunder Armor No, just no. Much too strong.

Barbaric Bard. Much Much Much too good. And problematic.

1. Inspire Greatness doesnt have any moral bonuses, they are all competence bonuses.

2. This is comparable in power to the Words of Creation in BoED, except with much easier requirements, and no penalties like the Words of Creation have.

Bards could use some bonuses, but this is way way way over the top.

Chord of Emotion Double + good, flavorful and strong.

Howling Bolero Redundant. Covered by a feat in the eberron book. The eberron feat not only allows the same thing, it allows stacking(to go beyond shaken) can be used at the same time as other bardic music abilities and lasts for a number of rounds equal to your ranks in perform.

Mindweapon X The mind weapons should just be "you can shape your mindblade into any martial or exotic weapon" Soulknifes need the bonus, it doesnt need to take multipule feats to get the weapon they want. Monks can get their unarmed attacks to do slashing/bludgeoning/piercing damage as a swift action, there isnt a reason Soulknives shouldnt.

Improved Dodge Seemse useless. Mobility will let you get out of dodge faster(more movement) with the same bonus on most attacks. And the Full Defense action is also +4 AC.

Walk the Most Narrow Path Awesome, probably better as a class feature, but awesome none the less.

Hear the Slightest Whisper See above

Decapitating Critical This should be similar to the Vorpal Ability. "killing it" should not be part of the text, as some creatures are not dependant on their head, yet can be critically hit.

Arcane Assault This might be a bit too strong, i like it, but the first ability seems like arcane channeling on crack, and the second ability screams abuse from spells like say... enveneration.

Virtuoso Talent Useless. For 16000 gp you can by a vest of legends which does the same thing for ALL perform skills and increases effective bard level by 5. This needs to be better. Maybe something like "Praticed Spellcaster" but for bards, like "Practiced Performer: Your effecitve bard level for your bardic music that you can use and their strength is increased by 8, your total bardic music equivelent level cannot exceed your maximum character level, though other items and abilities can raise it further"

Military Historian Not nearly strong enough. At epic levels this will give you +4 to attack and damage 1/day. Wooo, impressive. This feat just plain blows. If it is going to be a smite like skill, give it damage like smite evil.

Overcome Racial Weakness Very strong, not sure that i have a problem with it, but still very strong.

Spiteful Spellcasting Seems kinda weak, why not allow you to change targets to the thing that tried to inturrupt you if you choose as well?

Light of a Fading Star This should be an untyped bonus, and it should be +6[the total amount of stats you lose]

Skullforged Again, not powerful enough. At epic levels this will provide +4 bonus. Maybe divide by 5 instead.

Copycat Maneuver Very good.

I'm the EPIC Juggernaut, Bitch! Mechanics dont work for this feet. Bull Rush successes are defined by the amount higher your check is, therefor you cannot automatically succeed.

Dual Weapon Focus This entire tree is suspect, it brings the bonus for fighting with two weapons to +4 and +8 damage each attack for a total of 7 feats. 7 feats isnt much for a fighter. Might be too strong. The Epic Bonuses make the total +8 to attack and +12 to damage...

Anatomical Precision I wonder why you have this feat using the same mechanic as the other skill checks to damage. Except that this feat works on every attack... It isnt too good, well, maybe a little. However it is stupid. It is entirely too tedius rolling another D20 each time you attack a foe with anatomy.

Improved Anatomical Precision Just way to good. It is like sneak attack for two feats, except all the time.

Epic Anatomical Precision Ridiculously good. What were you thinking? These three feats make sneak attack look pitiful.

Tiger Claw Strike, Phoenix Eye Fist Redundant. The PHBII version takes a swift action to change, but that isnt a huge deal. the PBHII version works for all three types.

Holy crap. As many have said before, you and The Vorpal Tribble need to make a book together. I would buy that book, and the only dnd I play is one pbp game.
Anyway.
I've only read the first post so far, but here's some questions: on Tower Archmage, is the tower made of normal materials, force, force that looks like normal materials, or what? I understand it's probly supposed to be vague, but the capabilities/"spirit of the feat" would be nice to know.
On Bloodfueled Artifice: I remeber reading this feat before on the boards, but it was an old old thread, but my question is: cleric with staff including the heal spell can heal the con damage with one point of con, giving pretty much infinit heals, my only suggestion is making the con damage immune to magical healing.
I'll have more questions, and if there hasn't been a new post before then, I'll edit them in.
Oh, and great job, I see almost no problem with most of them so far.
--------------------------------------
Okay, read the rest of them, agree with most of the above posters power comments. Some typos:
Shouldn't Mournload Body and Wildwood Body be 1st level only?
Slash Limb says about recovering their blindness, but it gives other penalties (copy pasted?)
Elemental Blindsense says "his" when it should say "your"
Scribe Blood Scroll has an issue with the bolding code
Copycat Maneuver says "against" without specifying against whom, I'm guessing you?
Anatomical Precision example should say two bonus damage (20/10=2)
Finishing Strike: I don't know of any Kiai Strike feature, do you mean Kiai Smite? (I could be remembering wrong)

Now, first of all, I must have this in a happy organized pdf for future use/drooling. Second, I hope you don't mind I just copy/pasted these all into a text doc (with the link included for your credit), I suppose I could delete it if you wanted me to....

My PEACHes: (before you read these, is it possible to metamagic a spell below it's level?, cause while I ws typing, I realized I might be wrong...)
Minimize spell: love the idea, but if a minimize scorching ray is lv0, that's a bit too good, but other than lv0-ing spells, I think it's balanced enough.
Shrink Spell: I read a similar ability in a prestige class in monster book for the DragonlanceCS, it only reduced the level by one, and it was still crazy. Most of the time (IMO) you will never need a full long range fireball, this feat is just too good. Maybe if the level was only -1
Narrow Spell: same problem as shrink spell.
Slow Spell: obviously abusable with long duration spells.
Vocal Spell/Somatic Spell: I would say they're too good, but the limit on what spells they can be used with forces me to think.

And finally, the additional question (with extra hope you answer all of mine :) ).
Bonded Staff: if you fully deplete the staff, does it keep recharging from zero?, if not, is it considered destroyed? Can you bond with a new staff upon creation without suffering penalties? Can you purposefully break the bond, and if so, would you suffer the penalty?

Draco_Ignifer
2006-08-07, 02:02 PM
I may comment more later, but right now, I just have one serious question. Can Slow Spell be applied more than once? If so... you're gonna see some seriously, utterly ridiculous abuses. Just to give you an example, if you extend a fireball's casting time to eight hours, you give it a grand total of -9601 spell levels. At level 10, if you use 600 of these on lengthen, and you get yourself a spell that reaches a point 90 miles away, enough to strike deep into enemy territory from the safety of home. Use 600 more on empowering it, and it now deals 1510d6 damage, enough to reduce anything not immune to fire into its component atoms. Use the rest of the lot on widens, and you expand the blast radius to over 10 miles, enough to consume a city. And, just for the fun of it, use up that 5th level spell slot and that one extra caster level to maximize the thing and avoid all that nasty dice rolling.

At level 10, assuming a ring of sustainance, a wizard can cast two of these, and then take a nice, refreshing, eight hour sleep to start again in the morning.

Fizban
2006-08-07, 05:13 PM
I'll answer that: you can never apply a metamagic feat more than once. I don't know where it says that, but it came up in the recent sorcerer vs. wizard debate for some reason, and the answer was clear. You can't apply single metamagic feat more than once to the same spell (no empowered empowerd, no double extend, no double slow).

Draco_Ignifer
2006-08-07, 05:47 PM
I think whoever said that must be mistaken, because I remember the question being asked in Dragon. They stated that you can, say, use Empower multiple times, but that, like always, the effects are additive, not multiplicative - I.E., two 1.5x = 2x, not 2.25x.

*GRRRRROAN!*

Excuse my murky attention span and questionably constructive comments, but I'd be much, much, much more capable of reading through and critiquing these if they were presented, say, no more than 10 at a time!

Wow, though. That's a lot of work ya done.

I hate Test of Magic because of the clause that Area of Effect spells can't be aimed to damage anyone else. That's what I call stupid-good. Put the burden on the knight to move to where his other party members are out of the area. The Knight is about taking hits for the team and being valorous, not spell-denial and control.

If Fair Fight can make an enemy panicked just by acting normally and failing a tough Will save, it needs more prerequisites.

Call of Readiness should require a standard action. Essentially you give up your attack to pump your party's AC, protect them from sneak attacks, and enable them to make AoO's. It should also have many more prerequisites, because it basically gives a better version of uncanny dodge to your entire party at the cost of one Knight's challenge use.

I don't play epic games, so I won't comment on those save to say that the ability to shapechange into a damn hound archon seems pretty weak for a 26th level Knight. And fatal secret, as an (Ex) death effect, usable more times per day than you have spell slots with the same DC, is too good.

Vendetta needs more restrictions and a higher BAB requirement, or it's just insulting to rangers' favored enemy ability. Greater Vendetta is insane. the reasoning behind this is that a permanent +3 morale to hit and +6 to damage is insane, and Greater Vendetta confers these things. Mage's Vendetta is easily 10 times worse.

I like your flaws, except for godscorned, which frankly doesn't make sense mechanically or flavor-wise. He's scorned by every god and divine spell granter? What about bardic cure light wounds, that's arcane. And why would anyone take it? Of course they wouldn't. Especially not for middling SR 7-14 levels later.

Also, you need to specify that the ones like psychophrenia and unwilling binder can only be taken by PCS who are both at first level and of the relevant class. Because my wizard with a shiny extra feat won't much mind getting only 75% of his power points.

Broad learning is interesting. I think it needs playtesting, though, as I don't think sorcerors should be able to cast heal as a 7th-level spell.

No enchanting beguilement. Once you've got through spell focus and greater spell focus, you take some crazy Supreme Spell Focus or some such. You only gain a cumulative +1 to spell DCs of the chosen school for each feat in the tree, and any feat that breaks that rule is epic.

Divine Doctor, on the other hand, I like, since it gives people a reason to take the heal skill.

And that's all I've got the patience to write. For the love of god space them out a little more next time. Even VT gives us time to breathe in between unveilings of his nightmare creations.

You come from a world most adventurers might not understand. There, firearms reign supreme amonst weapons, and you have mastered a martial arts style that utilizes them.
Requirements: BAB +4, Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Firearms), Flurry of Blows
Benefit: You treat all firearms that can be wielded in one hand as monk weapons.

Stunning Bullet
You can aim precisely at pressure points to stun your foes.
Requirements: Gun Kata, Stunning Fist
Benefit: By spending two daily uses of your Stunning Fist ability, you can fire a Stunning Bullet. An opponent within 30 ft. of you hit by a Stunning Bullet must save or be stunned as if he had used the Stunning Fist feat against him.

Is this an Equilibrium reference, or am I just dumb?

Same director, different movie. Read the first line of Gun Kata again.

In response to the Mindblade X comment:

He's just continuing the feats started in CPsi. If he did what you said, it would make all those feats irrelevant. Also, mind chains = bad.

I would like to say about Illithidist that they already have a way for you to eat brains: get four abberant tentacles. That feat negates that.

Wow. :) Managed to skim through in enough detail to spot a few things that need attention... but still, wow.

Divine Doctor
Your medicinal training furthers your magical healing.
Requirements: Able to cast cure light wounds, Heal 6 ranks
BenefitL Whenever you cast a spell of the Healing subschool, you may make a Heal check. You add the result, minus 20, to the amount of HP healed.
Might want to specify that this never turns into a penalty... it seems pretty weak too, unless you start getting very high ranks in Heal, so make it a minimum of 1 extra HP?

Moribund Spell [Metamagic]
You prepare for the eventuality of your death with moribund metamagic.
Benefit: When you die, all spells you have prepared that are modified by this feat are cast, just as if you had cast them. No components are required. A moribund spell takes up a slot one level higher than the spell's actual level.
Very cool, but so very, very abuseable. Instant componentless resurrection? Make it untargeted (area) spells only, for the death-boom when your fireballs go off, or require expensive material components to be somehow available if you do want contingent resurrection to be possible with this.

Cantrip Master
You have mastered the lesser arcana.
Requirements: Caster level 9th
Benefit: Choose three cantrips. You may cast those cantrips at will as spell-like abilities.
Special: You may take this feat more than once. Each additional time you take it, you may apply it to one more cantrip.
I think this means three the first time, then another four, then another five, and so on? Or else three, then one more (makes four total), then another one (five total)? Should be made clearer.

Vicious Trip [Fighter, General]
You are trained in hitting a foe while's he's down.
Requirements: BAB +6, Improved Trip
Benefit: As a full-round action, you may make a trip attempt against an enemy. If you succeed, you may then make a full attack against it.
This feat is all but useless. If you have only Improved Trip, and you make a trip attempt as the first attack of a full attack, then if you succeed on the trip, you get a free attack at that highest bonus, followed by the rest of your full attack -- basically, you get the benefit of this feat. And if you fail on the trip, you still get the rest of your attacks -- strictly better than this feat.

Improved Dodge
You deftly weave your way out of danger.
Requirements: Dodge
Benefit: As a standard action, you may begin a series of elaborate ducks and dodges. You get a +4 dodge bonus to AC until the end of your next turn.
Redundant with the total defense action -- also a standard action for +4 AC, needs no feats.

Knife in the Dark [Psionic]
Your soulknife channels the power of shadow.
Requirements: Shape Soulknife, Psychic Strike +2d8, able to cast Apprentice level mysteries
Benefit: While in darkness or shadowy illumination, the enhancement bonus of your soulknife increases by one. In addition, you may choose shadow striking as a special ability to apply to your soulknife.
Mindblade, not soulknife. 'Shape Soulknife'... *casts polymorph on a soulknife character* ;D
