Hi,
I searched the forums, but I couldn't find any other treads discussing this.
I guess I should include a spoiler in case anyone didn't read the thread title.

Have a look at the top middle panel on page 21 of Start of Darkness.
Fyron Pucebuckle is giving his tour of his library in Cliffport.
Look at the back of the character at the bottom right of that top middle panel.

I think It's V.

This was indeed covered before, but there's nothing wrong with that. I even went so far as to hypothesize a dripping-in-irony conversation between the two:

V: That was a fascinating tour, was it not, human?
X: Uh, sure. A bit too talky for my tastes.
V: On the contrary, he didn't go into far enough detail on many matters, although I expect little else from his sort. Master Fyron, while a learned master of the arcane arts, chose to specialise in illusion, and as such doesn't care enough about the fine details. Why should I care about deceiving people, when magic is supposed to be used to force the universe to bend to my will?
X: Heh, I hear you.
V: I mean, look at that crown. He didn't even mention what it could do. No detail whatsoever! Not that I would wear such a thing, as it looks rather tacky.
X: I dunno, it looks kinda cool...
V: Then aspire to procure one yourself, human, for I have no interest in such things. Good day.
X: Get one myself, eh...?

I can totally see that happening. Fits them to a 'T'.

...Whatever that means.

Yeah, I even spun a wild theory on how this was either an inconsistency or another subtle clue (along with the question mark after V's age of 130? in Blues) that Vaarsuvius isn't as young as he claims. Fyron's death happened when Eugene was young, probably in his thirties, and he dies a couple of years before the start of the comic, having lived for about eighty years, which would mean that V was in Cliffport about sixty years ago, at the age of seventy, when by all rights he should still have been barely into puberty.

Probably simpler to consider it just a cameo appearance Rich threw in without really thinking, though...

*checks her SoD* Huh. Wow. Truly it does look like V. It is possible it IS V too:

The chapter in which we find out about Master Fryon's death says "7 years ago(not important for this)"-from the current storyline. It also refers to Xykon being around 60 years old. In next chapter, which happened 30 years ago, Xykon's age is 77 [he says it himself]. In meantime 17 years has passed. Anyway with counting abit, the appearance of V in Fryon's library happened around 47 years ago [30 years ago plus 17 from the crown stealing - IF I got it right]. Meaning, when V was around 80-90 years old.. I suppose it could happen.

On the other hand, I'm really bad in math, so if I got it wrong, don't be angry.

I have found an excellent source of explanation for phrases with obscure origins like "to a 'T.'"

Even when they aren't completely sure of the correct origin, they often compile some likely theories. Very interesting to browse through.

The point is pretty meaningless at this point. Neither seems to remember the incident. Nor is there any sign of importance of anything involved. The picture is probably just that of an elf.

Our writer appears to be distinctly casual about the calendar as well as distances. I have speculated that the young paladin in the raid on Redcloak's village was intended to be Miko, until it was realized that the dates were way off.
