From the still surface of a lake to the beading dew on a blade of grass, water is a natural mirror. These constant reflections resonate with the plane of mirrors, and for unknown reasons the nature of that realm sometimes spreads into the clearest of waters. The water gains an instinctive longing to bond with those who cast a bit of themselves upon its surface, to have an identity.

Thus when someone peers into their water they steal it image and become one with it, rising up as a perfect physical double. Many puddles are jealous of the true form and will often attempt to drown them and become the only one to wear its face. Most however only wish for substance with which to explore the world.

An edgepuddle can grow to a diameter of up to 12 feet and a thickness of about 3 inches in its natural form. A typical specimen weighs about 500 pounds. An edgepuddle speaks aquan and the language of their current reflection.

Combat
A puddleman prefers to remain near water sources where they are less vulnerable so as to pull their opponents within. Reguardless they are fond of wrapping about their victim's throat and mouths to weaken them. If overpowered however they blur their image into bizarre shapes to aid their defense.

Blurred Image (Ex): As a standard action a edgepuddle may blur and distort its image and shape in such a way that it is difficult to determine its exact dimensions. While blurred it gains a 20% miss-chance, though may not use any natural attacks.

Hypnotic Ripples (Su): An edgepuddle can attempt to hypnotize any creature within 10 feet that looks upon its natural form as a full round action. The victim must succeed on a DC 16 Will save or become Fascinated for as long as the edgepuddle ripples and for 1d4 rounds thereafter. The save DC is Dexterity-based.

Improved Grab (Ex): To use this ability, an edgepuddle must hit an opponent up to one size larger with its slam attack. It can then attempt to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity. If it wins the grapple check, it establishes a hold and can try to use its Suffocating Grip ability.

Because of its viscous form an edgepuddle receives a +4 racial bonus on grapple checks, which is already included in the statistics above.

One With Water (Ex): While underwater in its natural form an edgepuddle gains a +20 bonus to hide checks.

Suffocating Grip (Ex): An edgepuddle can attempt to partially enter a grabbed opponent, leaking a portion of its body in through the victim's nose and mouth as it grapples. For each round the edgepuddle successfully grapples the victim is considered to be submerged. This may even affect aquatic creatures as they can gain no breath from its substance.

True Reflection (Ex): An edgepuddle can assume the shape of any Tiny to Large creature that looks upon its surface. In alternate form, the edgepuddle loses its natural attacks but gains any of the extraordinary natural attacks of the new creature, as well as its land speed. An edgepuddle can remain in its alternate form until it chooses to assume a new one. A change in form cannot be dispelled, but an edgepuddle reverts to its natural form when killed. A true seeing spell or ability reveals its natural form.

An edgepuddle is immune to electricity, but any attack that deals electrical damage equal to or in excess of the edgepuddle's HD causes it to lose its reflective shape and reveart to its natural form. For example a Lightening Bolt must deal 7d6 damage to disrupt the edgepuddle's image.

Skills: An edgepuddle has a +8 racial bonus on any Swim check to perform some special action or avoid a hazard. It can always choose to take 10 on a Swim check, even if distracted or endangered. It can use the run action while swimming, provided it swims in a straight line.

So it's water that has been empowered by the plane of mirrors, and copies whatever looks in it?

Does it copy all physical features (weapons), or just the specific sentinent entity that looks in it?
