* Medium size
* low-light vision. (RW frogs are most active at dawn and dusk).
* +2 Con. Rani are known for their robust health. (actually, this is a tip o' the hat to the wizard familiar's bonus).
* Skin-breathing: Although rani have a limited ability to breathe through their skin, they prefer to breathe air. If immersed in water, they use the limited amount of oxygen they can absorb through their skin. They can act normally for (Constitution) rounds, then they are fatigued for (Constitution) rounds, then exhausted for (Constitution) *minutes*. After this, they enter a sleep-like state in which their muscles relax and they float to the surface, which wakes them up. Returning to the air removes these penalties immediately. They are subject to the normal suffocating rules if they cannot breathe air and are not immersed in water.
* Rani are good swimmers. While they are no longer able to swim as naturally as their fore-fathers, they still get a +2 racial bonus on Swim checks. Thanks to their strong leg muscles, they also get a +2 racial bonus on Jump checks.
* water-dependant: A rani must periodically immerse himself in water. Each 24 hours he is unable to do so, he must make a Fort save (DC 10, +1 for each day). The first failed check has no effect, except to make the rani feel uncomfortable. The second failed check makes the rani fatigued. the third failed check makes him exhausted. the fourth such check puts him in a coma-like state. Bathing in water for ten minutes, (or being in a very high-humidity area for one hour) recovers one step on this progression.
* favoured class: ranger.

Other ideas that I had, but decided against:

* wide-angle vision: Spot bonus, or possibly some kind of "cannot be flanked" bonus
* poison skin: no idea how to handle this one.
*Climb skill bonus: some frogs live in trees.
* Clumsy: Rani receive a -2 racial penalty when defending against bull rush, overrun, or trip attempts. (not sure about this item)
* racial hatred of pigs and porcine races, such as orcs.

I got the race name from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rana_(genus). It's pronounced RAH-nee (stress on first syllable).
