Classes
in the Playground
Part Deux

Main Thread | Nominations | Polls

Welcome to Classes in the Playground, Part Deux! The last contest dealt with the four traditional classes of D&D, but it seemed only right to have another contest for a few more iconic classes. The categories for this contest were Barbarian, Bard, Druid, and Paladin in the Playground.

Barbarian in the Playground

http://home.planet.nl/~hdgoede/tdg/StickArt/Contests/ClassesDeux_BarbarianGold.png
Moon Called wins the Barbarian category with 25 votes!

http://home.planet.nl/~hdgoede/tdg/StickArt/Contests/ClassesDeux_BarbarianSilver.png
happyturtle got close to winning, but ended second with 21 votes.

With 10 votes, GrlumpTheElder gets bronze.

Bard in the Playground

http://home.planet.nl/~hdgoede/tdg/StickArt/Contests/ClassesDeux_BardGold.png

http://home.planet.nl/~hdgoede/tdg/StickArt/Contests/ClassesDeux_BardSilver.pnghttp://home.planet.nl/~hdgoede/tdg/StickArt/Contests/MagtokAward.png
With only two votes less than Supagoof, Vespe Ratavo gets the silver trophy and a Magtok Award.

http://home.planet.nl/~hdgoede/tdg/StickArt/Contests/ClassesDeux_BardBronze.png
Raistlin1040 gets the bronze trophy with 10 votes.

Druid in the Playground

http://home.planet.nl/~hdgoede/tdg/StickArt/Contests/ClassesDeux_DruidGold.png
With an overwhelming majority of the votes, wxdruid reaffirms what most people already knew; she's the Druid in the Playground, with 44 votes.

http://home.planet.nl/~hdgoede/tdg/StickArt/Contests/ClassesDeux_DruidSilver.png
Tialait ended second with 8 votes.

http://home.planet.nl/~hdgoede/tdg/StickArt/Contests/ClassesDeux_DruidBronze.png

This one is pretty clear cut for me, I think.
Happy for Barbarian, Vespe (or Cristo, if Vespe is gone) for Bard, wxdruid for druid, and Mordokai for Paladin (...even if he's Blackguard now >>)

Szilard
2009-05-16, 02:42 PM
Everyone should nominate me for bard. Not only do I randomly burst into song and hum random tunes, I play several instruments. Me being a geek, it is probably expected that I'm in the school band. I have played tuba, baritone, trumpet, saxophone (alto and bari) flute, and clarinet. I've also dabbled in percussion. There's also recorder, but everyone does that. :smalltongue:

This might as well be my campaign speech.:smalltongue:

Nominate Szilard for Bard in the Playground!
He's a player.:smallamused:

Though I suspect Moofin Bard will win this if nominated.:smalltongue:

Boo the Barbarian challenges happyturtle! GRAWR!!

I would also like to challenge that common stereotype of barbarians! *leer* It's unfortunate that people often mistake them for fools, when really, they could be more intelligent than a wizard, or faster than a rogue. Strength does not always determine the winner. It just helps break things. But isn't that why we have a wizard? And opening doors? That's also easily done by a wizard, or a rogue. All you need from a barbarian is bold movements, and undying courage! And the constitution to back those up!

Besides, I don't like wearing lots of armour. It's very restricting.

Reasons why you should vote for me as Druid itP!

Reason 1: My license plate… http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i262/wxdruid/mylicenseplate.jpg
And no, I haven't altered my license plate on Paint Shop Pro, that is my valid license plate.
Reason 2: I’m an Air Force Weather Forecaster and it is part of my job to determine the current and future state of the atmosphere. I researched druid weather spells from many D&D books and filled up >50 pages of wx spells directly related to the weather. I have also created my own weather spells – The Supercell Thunderstorm for one.

Other fascinating spells I have found: 5th – Level Druid Spells
Blizzard
Call Avalanche
Call Lightning Storm
Cold Snap
Control Winds
Radiance
Wall of Coldfire
Wind Tunnel

6th – Level Druid Spells
Anger of the Noonday Sun
Death Hail
Freeze
Move Earth
Snow Wave
Storm of Fire and Ice
Stormwalk
Thunder Field
Tidal Surge

7th – Level Druid Spells
Aura of Cold, Greater
Control Weather
Rain of Roses
Storm of Elemental Fury
Storm Tower
Sunbeam
Waterspout
Whiteout
Wind Walk

8th – Level Druid Spells
Earthquake
Fimbulwinter
Frostfell
Maelstrom
Stormrage
Sunburst
Whirlwind

9th – Level Druid Spells
Rain of Black Tulips
Storm of Vengeance
Towering Thunderhead
Tsunami
Whirlwind, Greater

I have found and copied them out of the following books:

Players Handbook
Players Handbook II
Spell Compendium
Complete Arcane
Complete Mage
Dragon Magic
Book of Exalted Deed
Stormwrack
Frostburn I am aiming for a complete list of all druid weather spells.

Reason 3: My first character in Town was an elven druid/storm lady back in 2006. For her/my birthday party at the Milk bar, Atreyu gave her a robe of autumn leaves and Lykan created a construct tiger that she named Rain.

My first concept drawing http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i262/wxdruid/Town/conceptdrawingforwxdruid.jpg

Gwen the wxdruid
Reason 4: I love to collect herb books and herbs. When I lived in SC I had a lovely herb garden. I grew everything I could think of in it, in neat little rows and spaces. Unfortunately I had to move, the military moved me to South Korea. Even in South Korea I had a few herbs to brighten my room with. Next, I moved to McConnell AFB, Ks and I had a container herb garden out on my balcony. Now that I’m here in IL, I have restarted my herb garden, (now that I’m actually here for a spring/summer). It’s going great so far. In one section I have lavender, rosemary and thyme. In another section I have planted two miniature rose bushes and wooly thyme. I also restarted my container gardening. I have 8 long pots full of sprouts and many smaller pots. I’m growing several varieties of basil, sage, thyme, rue, dill, fennel, lavender, parsley, catnip, catmint, peppermint, spearmint and I’m still looking for another bay tree, lemon grass, curly mint and other harder to find herb plants. I love the smell of herbs and I enjoy looking through my many books for new ones. I also enjoy drying herbs and using them in my cooking.

Reason 5: Last summer catlover found tadpoles in the ditch behind our house. She and I ‘assisted’ them in surviving and released more than 40 small frogs back into the ditch. They were cute tadpoles and cuter frogs. Now we have one or two bigger frogs living in my garden out back. And now, the tadpoles are back! We now have 50-75 new tadpoles to raise into frogs and release back into the ditch area.

These are the previous years group of tadpoles and frogs.

@^ didn't you, like, just received conformation that you're fighter? Man, this must be one of the weirdest multiclass combos ever.

Anyway... nominate me for paladin in the Playground. Why? Well... untill this blackguard business, I would like to think of myself as a good paladin, one that gives more emphasis on good part of alignment, rather than lawful part. I was always a staunch supporter of lawful good =/= lawful stupid principle. Neither lawful good =/= lawful nice, as many of my playground friends could testify. Ask my brothers, I'm sure they will be the first one to confirm that :smalltongue:  I think that despite some misgivings I was a good servant for the cause of good. I believe I can be again. In fact, god knows there has probably never been a lousier villain in history than I was.

So, if you want a paladin without a stick up his arse, vote for me. In the meantime, I would like to show my collection of paladin avatars once again.

So yeah... nominate me? Because how many paladins you know that served three gods and still managed to be on good terms with each and every one of their bosses? Well, now you know one more

Dear Mordokai,
You were the greatest paladin I ever knew. You embodied not only courage and determination, but compassion and innocence. In those glorious days when you served the side of good, you would have had my undivided support for Paladin itP. Mordokai, remember the heights from which you have fallen! Do you really want to forever turn your back on that beauteous joy of love and trust? Please come back, Mordokai. You need not tarry a moment further. On the side of Good, we're waiting with open arms. Remember what you have lost.
Love and compassion,

I am a Barbarian.

My fighting style consists largely of "hit other guy with sword until other guy stops fighting".
And it works.
I don't need fanesse.
... Hell, I can't even spell fanesse. And Saur's being a meany head and not telling me. v.v
Which brings me to my next point.
I'm not smart. I can't spell, I cant stratigize. I am the perfect example of a meat-shield. Run in there and distract the other big guy so he stays away from the squishy spell casters.

Plus, I've gotta huge sword.

Well, I wasn't going to run till I saw both Graymere and Mordokai running. So, I wanted to actaully have a paladin run. Yes, I only took a few levels of Prestige Paladin, but at least I havn't constantly said I am class x, then class y, then ..[/rant]

Anyway, I never intended to be a paladin, but I wish to run anyway. I hope I extol the virtues of Lawful Good enough to live up to the ideals of paladin hood, and I gladly accept any challenge you will present me with.

I did not choose Paladin hood, people placed Paladin hood upon me, so I wish to live up to this honor the people granted me.

I use my skills for stealth, deception, magic and of course a side dish of woop ass and fries. Now you might ask why should I vote you for bard ITP rather than Szilard or others the reason is I am unique a bard who plays all kind of music form classical to jazz to rock and then metal that my friends is why you should vote Elrond for Bard ITP

Dote Points on Why you Should Vote For Me

Graymayre for Paladin in the Playground

What separates a paladin from any other melee class? Is is the ethics, or religious views, or righteousness? I submit to you, dear Playgrounders, that it is most certainly not.

The aforementioned attributes are the common mistakes of misguided warriors. A paladin is not holy for the sake of being holy. She is not a lawful good bureaucrat, or some avatar of hypocrisy. Smiting evil is not a paladin's passion. Spreading her own views is not her goal.

There is only one thing that makes a paladin who she truly is:

Love

There's not a force more powerful in the verse'. Love is what keeps someone up when they ought' to have fallen down. It lets you know when a person's hurting, and how to help.

Makes the world a home.

I have that love within me. Seeing a person's pain tears me apart on the inside. Every mote of another's grief hangs upon my shoulders and shows me what I should strive to be in life. If I can help someone, even a little bit, I feel fulfilled. This is not some Role-playing aspiration or goodwill fantasy. I wake up everyday with this feeling in my heart.

A paladin must be able to sacrifice anything for this love. Any person, no matter how small, is worthy of her final gift; and true warriors of light understand this.

Paladin hood is not something that a person chooses to do. She must be born with the drive to help, to heal, to love. There must be a passion within to steal away pain and hate from others.

A true paladin becomes one so others do not have to. (http://www.goblinscomic.com/d/20061223.html)

I am a paladin, I was always one. It is the inch of myself that no one can take away. There is something more to it, something that is beyond myself. It connects me to the world, and lets me share my love.

Evil has the capability of destroying every inch of me.

Except one.

Slogan:

He's azure winner for it!

Truth be told, I entered fighterITP because:

A) I helped give challenge to Fred (Necessary, I assume he wouldn't want to win without one)

B) I did not realize that there would be another class poll a week later.

You hurt me when you say that what I did was a lie. :smallfrown:

Being a paladin does not keep me from being a fighter, or vice versa. A fighter has every capability of being a paladin as long as she accepts the thing that makes one.

@Mordokai: say that to O-Chul :smalltongue:

Big long speech
Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears. Well, not literally. That's just gross. Why would you cut off your ear, anyway? Who are you, Van Gogh?

Anyway, five months and two years ago, I came to this forum. Shortly thereafter, I met a young woman by the name of Moon Called. Shortly after that, she made me lose the Game.

Since then, we've been through...well, not much, really. Mostly thin, not a lot of thick. But if I've learned one thing, it's that she is, without a doubt, a barbarian. I mean, look at that sword! It's bigger than she is, and she cleaves people in half with it like nobody's business! But you don't have to take my word for it; take the Playground's word. She was elected barbarian in the last contest.

And myself? Ever since I first arrived, my persona was that of a bard. I've evolved from a thinly veiled elven copy of Elan to a complex...okay, I'm still a thinly veiled elven copy of Elan. But people seem to like it, seeing as how I was elected Elan itP.

So why run together? Why not? We work together, like lutes and battleaxes, or Shakespeare and Thog. In conclusion...
TL;DR
Vote Vespe for Bard and Moon Called for Barbarian, or we'll duct tape open your eyes and force you to watch Manos: The Hands of Fate. And not the Mystery Science Theater 3000 version either.

Happyturtle vs Moon_Called for Barbarian itp!

Magtok has offered a deal. Whichever of us inflicts the most mental trauma on him between now and the election gets his vote.

Mr. Moon
2009-05-17, 03:48 PM
*shakes head* Ohhh, Happy, Happy, Happy. What are you thinking?

Tell me, what makes a Barbarian?
Well, Dictionary.com defines Barbarian as:

bar⋅bar⋅i⋅an
 /bɑrˈbɛəriən/ [bahr-bair-ee-uhn]
–noun
1. a person in a savage, primitive state; uncivilized person.
2. a person without culture, refinement, or education; philistine.
Then a bunch of stuff about Greek and Rome but I dun wanna read that stuff. Reading is for people with an INT score.

I am primitive, and uncivilized. I lack refinement, my education is incomplete, and my culture? Just ask Wolfbane.
... Even though you can't, 'cause he's not here... v.v
So ask Onsuma.

Happy? She's none of those. I mean, look at where she lives.
England.
You ever seen an English barbarian?
She's into Shakespeare. Shakespeare, I say! What kind of self-respecting barbarian uses The Bard as anything other than firestarter! For shame, Happy.
Need proof that this is more than just slander?

Happy says:
http://www.archive.org/download/shortpoetry_008_librivox/sonnet_29_shakespeare_t_64kb.mp3

Now if you'll excuse me, I've got some monsters to cut in half.

ThePhantom for Barditp

Sure, unlike the other people running for bard, I don't have a lot of musical talent in a wide amount of areas, but I'm good at singing. Also, being a bard is more than just being musical, its about persuasiveness, and being a team player. I am somewhat of a speaker and I'm definately a team player. Sure, Vespe is more qualified than me, and I have no problems with that. However, that doesn't mean I shouldn't try, so I ask the people of the playground to vote ThePhantom for Barditp.

A silver voice(trophy) is fine for a bard.

Boo

I support Happy for Barbarian itP! Show them we do have intelligence! And MC, what of the Vikings? The Saxxons? They were all barbarian societies with a contagious culture, and integral inventions! And going back in time, were barbarians not the founders of technology? Science? C'mon! We invented fire!

You see, barbarians are really extremely intelligent, but we like to lead people on in pursuit of Homo-Sapien research. You see, while we are being brutish, we are analyzing your every movement and emotion. You may kill some of us, but that is simply because those brilliant barbarians are decidedly dedicated to their work. In D&D, our character sheet may say 10 or 8, but in reality, it's far above that of a typical wizard.

In order to mend this compromising of all the years we've studied you, please: Vote happyturtle for Barbarian itP! Go ahead, make her day!

P.S. MC's so doing what a wizard would! How can you trust someone who goes to the dictionary, or provides a link?!

DD, who are you suggesting lived in Ireland or Scotland? 'Cause it seems like you're saying it's the Saxons. And they came from Saxony, which is where modern-day Germany is, more or less. And they invaded England (among other places, I think), hence Anglo-Saxon.

The Vikings also invaded England and for long stretches of time the North of England was nothing more than a Viking territory, and occasionally the King of England was Viking. Vikings may not have originated here, but they pretty much owned us.

Not that it's relevant where someone comes from really. Pretty much every culture has had some army which just smashes and grabs at some time. It's what armies do.

GrlumpTheElder
2009-05-18, 05:43 AM
GrlumpTheElder for Barbarian ITP

There are many reasons that Grlump should get your vote, Mainly because Grlump is a Lvl 5 Gnome Barbarian, adept at hacking out your kneecaps with Grlump's axe (called Steve).

Also, Grlump loves food and constantly eats.

Grlump speaks in thirdpeson here to keep with Barbarian Heritage. Also, Grlump is always angry (unless killing or eating or both)

Grlump is a great community member, often partaking in RAKs (Random Acts of Kindness Killing!)

Just remember, A Vote for GrlumpTheElder is a Vote for A Gnome Barbarian , a vote not for GrlumpTheElder leads to GrlumpTheElder killing you and eating your still warm corpse! :smallfurious:

Barbarian

A - Can you read this?
Grlump not bother with reading. Grlump gets others to read for him on pain of having their kneecaps hacked out.

B - What's best in life?
Fighting, Killing, Maiming, Eating, Fighting and the pittyful screams of mercy from people who get in Grlump's way.

C - Why are you so angry all the time?
Why are YOU so angry all the Time. For even sugesting that, Grlump will gut you and throw your lifeless corpse for dogs to eat. They called me small, THEY WILL NOT LIVE!!!!!!

D - Who was the greatest barbarian of all time? Why?
Glump is greatest barbarian ever. Anyone who thought otherwise no longer have brains to think with!

By voting for me, you won't be loading your vote onto a major player who probably has more of these trophies than you've had hot dinners, you'll be giving one of the little guys a chance, and that is a pivotal point in my campaign, Give the Little Guy a Chance (not that I’m saying that any of the major players are not worthy of your vote). I may not be as prominent on the forums as some of the older members but I’m trying, and in trying I am making progress in founding a positive reputation for me. For instance, I make avatars for people requesting them in the Avatar Request thread on the Arts and Crafts Board. Just winning a bronze in Barbarian ITP will inspire me to keep going.

Y'know it makes sense...

Have a nice day

Let me know if the polls ever get around to psion or fallen-paladin (NOT blackguard, I've never been, and never will be, a blackguard). I suppose it'd only be right if I ran for warlock as a matter of principle, assuming that contest ever came about. :smallwink::smalltongue:

Don't forget to nominate Lex-kat for Druid itp.

I like to fly around, smells the roses. I took druid as a class so that I could summon Carnivorous Chihuahuas.

That's right. Where do you think all those Chihuahuas come from? I summon them, using my Druidic magic.

Where I come from, Chihuahuas are considered a nature's ally. Summoning Flaming Chihuahuas is a sign of greatness, and I love to summon them. They are the friendliest, most loyal doggies a pixie can have.

So nominate Lex-kat as Pixie, I mean Druid itp.

Vote wxDruid, Deathslayer7, and Tialait.

Deathslayer7

Slogan: Always A Tree-Hugger at Heart

Campaign Speech

It's not who you are that defines you, its what you do. I could easily choose to play a sorcerer or wizard, but I don't. I choose to play the Druid. I could easily RP as something or someone else, but I don't. I RP as Liriel, the Elven Druidess, who loves to wander around and broomwhacks loves people, and even lives a happy life as a ghost. I choose to have an avatar of a Druid, and even have a banner for one.

I love animals, and even own my own dog whom I love very much. Although she's too smart for her own good... but that's a different story.

Besides that, where else would you get your daily dose of abusiveness love from and unlimited amounts of cookies?

But the main reason why I'm running, is to give wxdruid a run for her money. True she may have better 'qualities' for being a Druid, but it's the heart that matters in such things.

If you have the heart to be what you want to be, then nothing can stop you.

Hello, hello. Apparently I've been nominated, so here's a speech.

As far as I can tell by the other bard speeches, the focus here is on music. I love music, it's fantastic, but when discussing bards, I can't believe the world's most famous, The Bard himself (Shakespeare, of course), has had his profession neglected. Despite what misconceptions one might gather from the emphasis on Bardic Music, being a bard is NOT just about singing and playing an instrument. Rather, it's about all types of art. Even better is a jack-of-all-trades proficiancy in many.

This describes me, I believe, perfectly. I sing, I play guitar, I play keyboards. I write poetry, novels, short stories, plays, and I'm one of the most active and accomplished (with regards to quantity, if not quality) shippers over in the Shipping thread. I'm a actor, and a stage technician, and I was asked to write and host a talent show by my school, so obvious some people think I'm funny. I'm an amateur photographer and film maker as well. I think, more than anything else, these dabblings in various fields make up the essence of why I think I'm the best candidate for Bard. Of course, if it's music you'd like to talk, let's talk it. I think it'd be rather hard to find people more versed in musical knowledge/trivia. I've been roleplaying bards since I was 11, and I've had Raistlin (And now Punk-Rylin) as my avatar for quite some time, at least a year.

That's all I've got to say, really. It's likely this is the last thing I'll say during this campaign. Obviously, I can't cover everything in one speech, so I encourage everyone who votes to think about who's most fitting for the title, all things considered. Thank you.

Mordokai

There ain't a villain more despicable than a fallen paladin. I'm the living proof of it. What makes a man turn from a path or virtue, light and goodnes and toward a path of vileness and evil? I wish I had an answer. Sadly, even after all this months, I'm still grasping for it. And from the looks of it, I will be grasping for it for a long time.

I used to be good. I used to be example. Not that I ever deserved it, or even ever wanted it. I just wanted to do the right thing. And for some time, I did. Somewhere along the line, I failed and the consequences are seen even today. Was it because of money, fame, lust? Some altogether different reason? Does it even matter? The results are plain to see and they are hardly encouraging. I should hope that, by dropping as low as I did, I managed to do at least one good thing. I showed, personally, that evil is not cool. If anybody still believes that, look at shipping thread. That should be proof enough. If that was achived, than perhaps there is a purpose to all this.

I'm not trying to make excuses. I screwed up and I'm taking a penalty for it now. Do I deserve a second chance? Hell no! All nine of them say no. I'm not sure which of them has a claim on my soul and it hardly matters. Do I want it? Yes, yes I do. All seven heavens of Celestia say so. I've been nothing if not miserable since I fell. I'm guessing there's still a paladin, somewhere deep down, urging me to do the right thing. But the poor guy is fighting a loosing fight.

A vote for me is a vote for redemption. If you don't want to support me, I understand it. But then, at least support Nil. He's a model of what a paladin should look and act like. He may not be a straight class paladin, but he managed to resist all the temptations so far, which makes him far better paladin than I ever was. He's, for a lack of better term, a beacon of hope. And people need beacons, to guide them.

In the end, let me just say... vote. Every vote abstained is a vote waisted. You wouldn't want to go wasting, would you?

Blue Ghost
2009-05-18, 06:16 PM
Mordokai, I feel your pain. I cannot say I have experienced the depth to which you have fallen, but I have had my bouts with evil, and fallen to temptation enough to see where the path ends up. It is irrelevant whether or not you deserve a second chance. No one does. But the side of Good offers a second chance, for anyone who would just reach out and take it. If you truly wish to be redeemed, the process is by no means difficult. All you need to do is take that one leap of faith that will land you back on the side of Good. There is nothing stopping you from redeeming; all you have to do is make the decision. I do believe that you are still good at heart, and I am hoping that you will make the right choice, and soon.

I will be supporting Saint Nil for Paladin in the Playground. Like you said, he has exemplified the ideals of the paladin, leading many (including me) along the path of righteousness and mercy.

It's always good to have more competitors, so I'll announce that I'll be running for Bard ITP aswell. I realize that there are more known Bards, Supagoof and Cristo for one are two people I'll be sure to nominate, but then, more variety is always good.

Speech coming once I get home.

EDIT: Right...

Vote Murska for Bard ITP

Yeah, that isn't much of a speech, eh? Well, where to start... Music sound fine to you? I'm a, well, a 'bassist' although I also play drums a lot, sing even more(ALL the time) and have started learning the basics of guitar. But my band needs a bassist and team effort is the key, so I go as a bassist/vocalist most of the time. My style has a lot of improvisation and fills, since I do not believe in 'playing by the rules'. Breaking standard ways of doing things and thinking outside the box is what I want to do and, hopefully, sometimes succeed.

I've been playing for some years. Before, I was very introverted, not social, had few friends and preferred to stay alone. I was, and still am, quite shy, but thanks to music, the thrill of performing and the great feeling of being on stage, doing my thing and other people liking it has helped me get over that to a large degree. It's just such a great feeling when you think 'Hmm. Should I do this... They might laugh at me...' and then you realize that you don't really even care.

Now, my bandmates are awesome, and we've got a great team spirit, joking around and such. I'm the 'smart guy' of the group, my part of our conversations is usually the funny remarks and inside jokes along with elaborate little speeches that tend to cause hysterical fits of laughter. That's usually what I like to do when talking to people, make them laugh. I'm not one for being very serious. I like to argue and debate just because, but I never take that seriously and I usually try to be a good loser rather than a bad winner.

As most of the people around in Structured Games should know, I can be rather persuasive when necessary, and indeed, communicating with people, especially via IM-programs but also verbally, is one of my strong sides when it's not impeded by me being in my shy and quiet mood. I can hold my own in a verbal confrontation pretty well due to a lot of practice around school and especially with a couple of my closest IRL friends, but mostly I try to keep the mood cheerful if possible.

I'm one of those people who have to have something to do at all times, prefarably multiple things. If there comes a moment I get bored, I start drumming with my fingers or singing, or both, causing dangerous levels of annoyance in anyone sitting near to me and actually trying to follow the teaching. (Yeah, school's usually where I get bored. :smalltongue:) I've noticed it actually helps, too... I keep getting better at rythm and creating my own basslines and melodies in my head even while not actually playing.

Of course, one of the things I like to do when bored is to exert my imagination. When I get inspiration, I can write pretty well, owing to my large vobaculary in both english and finnish. I have some short stories, although I've only lately started a concentrated effort to stop myself from destroying what I write later on. I'm a bit of a perfectionist, see, and I'm never satisfied with my texts. Sucks when trying to write lyrics...

I read a lot, although a bit less lately since the nearest library has nothing left that interests me at all. I sometimes download books over the internet, but reading on a screen just doesn't captivate me as much. But I still read more than most of the rest of my class combined, so it's a relative thing. :smallwink:

I don't have much talent in drawing, but that doesn't stop me from doodling all over my school notebooks and such. For example, my German notebook had, after you scrolled through the first eight pages of tic-tac-toe(on a notebook page sized grid, though) you found twelve pages, five of them full-page drawings and the rest filled with smaller doodles and such. I can't say they're good, but it's the thought that counts and I am pretty good at clearing things up for myself by drawing it, even if nobody else understands them.

I'm an okay actor, although I haven't had that as a hobby or anything. I've managed to survive and keep a facade of a respectable and good-natured student for this long, right? :smallamused: I can lie when needed, but I usually rather say the truth and have the other guy invent his own lies, since that usually works much better. And I can, when relaxed enough and in good company, practice my different accents and improvise short sketches.

I'm a quite adventurous person, I like to experiment and experience things. I'm the kind of person who'd go 'I wonder what happens if I do this...' It shouldn't come as a suprise to anyone that my future profession will be either a musician or a scientist, or prefarably both. (Probably in the field of astronomy. Uncharted frontiers interest me, and I've always wanted to find my own 'fantasy world'. Then again, who hasn't?)

I travel a lot... I remember my recent-ish trip to Germany, and people looking at me weird when I walked through the streets of Munich singing loudly. :smalltongue: I also recently returned from Japan, where I took a lot of pictures to draw inspiration from, ate all kinds of weird stuff, got stuck in a massive schoolgirl wave and created a new character concept with an interesting fighting style.

Whenever I'm playing a character in freeform or whatever, he'll always be musical in some way, even if he isn't a musician or a bard as such. He'll also often be slightly mad, fiddle with technology and usually gather as many weapons as possible, but that's another thing.

Okay, this much talk about me. How boring, I don't think anyone's gonna read that, but I promised a speech and, as everyone should know, speeches are(usually) boring. There are exceptions though. CAN YOU DIG IT?

As a summary to this wall of text: Music is very much a part of me, I also talk with people a lot and do some other bardish things. Most of the above is probably a lie, but you should know that the moment you see the green eye where my avatar should be. And then you should forget it. ...obey... Also, all this self-glorifying and forgetting or neglecting to mention any bad sides is of course very bardish aswell, eh?

*bows with a flourish and leaves the scene*

EDIT2: *returns awkwardly* Oh right, I also like Kvothe. *poof*

"Barbarians" was just normal cultures that were given a bad reputation by the romans or other cultures that wrote history. These "barbarians" were not any less advanced then any other cultures and did in fact make many advancements. But as they were seen as alien and aggresive they were suddenly seen as lesser humans.

Thier defenition of "barbarians" were that they were a child-like people, unable to reason or even speak properly, the word ahd not any positve sense at all.

D - If you found a wounded animal in the forest, what would you do? Nurture it back to health? Kill it to ease its suffering? Or leave it alone? I'd probably try and nurture it back to health. I don't think my conscience would like me very much if I killed it. (Indirectly or directly)

1) Although its not conventional barbarian-ness to, I have to, as living in non-civilization would make me even insaner than I already am

2) a pair of shoulders with nothing in the middle

3) RAGE!! :furious:

4) Whoever still has a head on their shoulders and just happens to be a barbarian.

A - What aspect of nature do you represent? All of the wild animals and plants

B - How do you feel about 'civilized' races? They don’t belong and I seek to educate them by blowing up their buildings and habitations so that they must return to their roots and nature.

C - If a wild animal tried to eat you, what would you do, and why? A wild animal would never try and eat me, they know that I will save them.

Saavedra (one of my first D&D characters and a Paladin (and because I like answering quizzes that apply to different characters I've had in the past))Paladin Quiz

A - If you could destroy all evil forever by sacrificing one innocent life, would you do it? Only if that innocent life was myself.

B - What is justice? Justice is putting down the evil creatures with the rule of law and strength of arms.

C - Orc babies: kill them or spare them? Babies are not evil in and of themselves.

D - If you found yourself facing a great evil like Orcus or Asmodeus, which you knew you could not defeat, would you still fight it? Yes, I would still fight on and die for my cause.

A - If you could destroy all evil forever by sacrificing one innocent life, would you do it?
No. I have always viewed this type of action as weak, lazy, and unjust. Will it be harder to destroy all evil by rooting it out, piece by piece? Yes, but I will not kill an innocent because it is "too hard" too go about bringing utopia through dedication and hard work.

B - What is justice?
Justice is a tool of the peace. When everyone is treated fairly, with love and kindness but also punishment for the wicked. Justice ensures the peace, protecting the weak. Their is no peace without justice, and no justice without mercy.

C - Orc babies: kill them or spare them?
Spare them, easily. Then I raise them myself, and teach them the proper way to act, and raise them to be merciful and just. Why kill your enemy when you can redeem them into your allies?

D - If you found yourself facing a great evil like Orcus or Asmodeus, which you knew you could not defeat, would you still fight it?
Depends on the situation. While I'm not going to suicidally throw myself at them, would I save others lives? Could I significantly weaken them or destroy a major artifact? If my fight could accomplish some greater good, then I would gladly lay down my life. Fighting otherwise would just be foolish and a waste.

Barbarian -Steve the Nutcrusher
A - Can you read this?
"what this 'rea-ding' you speak of?"

B - What's best in life?
"smashing puny humans! and then wild party!"

C - Why are you so angry all the time?
"because people no like when i hug them. they always scream and go to sleep! why my hugs make people go sleep!? me am boring? you think me be boring!? huh? HUH?" :furious:

D - Who was the greatest barbarian of all time? Why?
"this am simple question. answer is steve the nutcrusher."

Bard - Kristian (me), Phoenix Kerissan and Khiansa Bladesong
A - Which Perform skills do you have?
"Violin... Acting... Storytelling... that's it, really."
"I myself play the harp, piano and various wind instruments. I can sing if need be, but I prefer not to."
"My voice is a weapon, one that I bring full force on my enemies, and use to support my allies. Storytelling is also an important aspect of bard-hood."

B - Which social skill do you prefer? Bluff, diplomacy, or maybe even intimidate? Or do you just use perform to turn people into your willing slaves?
"Intimidate." :smallamused:
"Manipulating People!"
"... You people scare me." ._.

C - What is beauty?
"Beauty... is when... things... look nice?" :smallconfused:
"Beauty is Love."
"You're both wrong. Beauty is found in battle. The perfect sword stroke. The perfect spear thrust. The perfect kill."
"..."
"..."
"I think I liked Phoenix's definition the best."

D - What is your favourite art form, and what genre of that art do you prefer?
"Rock."
"Classical."
"Rock."
"Classical."
"Rock!"
"Classical!"
"Fighting!"
"Shush."

Druid - Kristian (Me), Kid Kris (Me) and Some Random Druid I pulled off the beaten path.
A - What aspect of nature do you represent?
"The... er... human kind?"
"Oooh! Oooh! I know this one! Fae."
"The Predator"

B - How do you feel about 'civilized' races?
"We should like... totally respect them, and definitely not condone acts of eco-terrorism and enviro-killing."
"I agree with the above statement."
"They make for interesting prey." :smallamused:
"... I like the way you think."
"Get the hell away from me!" :smalleek:

C - If a wild animal tried to eat you, what would you do, and why?
"Ohmigodwildanimalattackrunawayaaaaahh!"
"Hi kitty!"
"Fight back! If I lose, good for him. If I win, it didn't deserve to live anyway."

D - If you found a wounded animal in the forest, what would you do? Nurture it back to health? Kill it to ease its suffering? Or leave it alone?
"I read somewhere that wounded animals are twice as likely to maim you than not-wounded animals."
"I'd nurse it back to health and keep it as a pet!"
"I'd kill it and eat it. It is the natural way of things."
"..."
"That's just gross."

Paladin - Kid Kris (me), Phoenix Kerissan, and Captain Jack Hammer!
A - If you could destroy all evil forever by sacrificing one innocent life, would you do it?
"Well, yeah. I'm not stupid."
"I find it unlikely such an occurrence would happen. Evil lies not within demons or other beings, but within the human heart, and no amount of death can fix that wrong. Salvation lies not within the sword, but within the pen."
"You're both missing the point. Who would you rather kill: Some random nobody, or a whole bunch of evil gods and demons?"
"..."
"..."
"I like your logic."
"I'm leaving."

B - What is justice?
"Um... erm... can I get back to you on that?"
"When a fair and right settlement has been reached between the affected parties. True justice can only happen with love."
"Justice... is that warm, fluffy feeling you feel after a hard day's work slaying criminals and zombies. The feeling that lets you know that you have kicked some serious ass today. Of course, that might just be this barmaid's dress."

C - Orc babies: kill them or spare them?
"What's the difference? If you kill them, they die. If you spare them, they starve and die."
"I wouldn't have killed their parents in the first place. Fighting accomplishes nothing."
"What babies? All I see are a pile of ashes where a orc town used to be." :smallconfused:

D - If you found yourself facing a great evil like Orcus or Asmodeus, which you knew you could not defeat, would you still fight it?
"Hell no! I'd grovel and beg, then run away later! And maybe kill a few of their minions to assuage my wounded pride."
"As I have said, the defeat of evil does not come from fighting, but through the pursuit of enlightenment. Fighting them would accomplish nothing."
"You seem to be implying that there exists an evil which I cannot defeat. Surely, my computer screen must be mistake, for there is no way you could have actually typed that. Am I right?"
"You disgust me."

Why are YOU so angry all the Time. For even sugesting that, Grlump will gut you and throw your lifeless corpse for dogs to eat. They called me small, THEY WILL NOT LIVE!!!!!!

A- The Earth and the Sky. One's life is insignificant compared to the enitre world, but that does not mean that that life does not hold meaning.

B- As with all things, there is a balance between them. Civilized races will reap the consequences of their actions sooner or later.

C- I would defend myself, and try not to hurt it. If i do, I would heal it and then let it go. But it needs to understand who is in charge.

D-heal it and let it go again.

ATTENZIONE

I've noticed that for the past few contests, some people have started running for categories they don't intend to win to give someone else a 'challenge'.

I'd like to ask people not to do that. You're stealing the spotlight from lesser-known playgrounders who are serious about running. And remember, you don't have to be campaigning to be nominated; just because only one or two people are campaigning for a category, doesn't mean they won't be facing any competition.

Dallas-Dakota

Oh but Hermy, when I run, I do intend to win. To give somebody else a challenge is just somewhere down there on the bonus list. That is why I don't run for everything.

One last push:

Thanks to everyone whose nominated me. And for those who don't know me...here's the answers to the Bard questions.

A - Which Perform skills do you have? Mostly musical in nature, but I do have ranks in humility as well as in bringing the funny.

B - Which social skill do you prefer? Bluff, diplomacy, or maybe even intimidate? Or do you just use perform to turn people into your willing slaves? Diplomacy. Most often I've been seen keeping the peace or also keeping the subject on task around here.

C - What is beauty? Beauty, to me, is when the best of people come forward and either do something great for someone else on their own, or join together and do something great for someone else. Take the power of the playground as an example, and you'll see the beauty of all of us right there.

D - What is your favourite art form, and what genre of that art do you prefer? Musical, as it touches all life, and everyone can relate to it.

Now, for a sample of my work.....

We're only waiting for Graymayre now, but it seems he hasn't been online for the past week. I'll wait another day, and then his spot will go to the next person in line.

Edit: Alright, a day passed, and no response. Graymayre's spot now goes to Wolfbane, if he accepts.

Another edit: It was just pointed out to me that Wolfbane is away, and won't be back for a few months. That means the spot goes to SurlySeraph.

Yet another edit: SurlySeraph has accepted, so I'll go and start the polls!

Last edit, I swear: Okay, the polls have been posted. They'll appear as soon as a mod approves the thread.

Just one more edit: The polls are up. Linky!

He's been waiting for this one for a very long time! In fact, he's been shot down for pretty mcuh every other ITP competition he's been in. :smallfrown:

Vespe won Elan itP.

As for ships, Koorly, queen of shipping, said this of just one of Raistlin's ships:

This is one of the best pieces of writing I have seen in all the threads. Hell(pardon my Klatchian), I've read worse short stories written by famous and acclaimed writers and authors.
This story is all about subtlety and, rightly, the romantic touches are finely threaded throughout and it all joins together to create a sweet, fantastical happy ending at the end.
The play itself also seems to mirror the larger story which I find fantastic - playing out The Photograher in real life if you will. Thufir just kicks the things off; Curly, the bit part lover has a small but vital expositionary role. Also, I personally find it funny as it's the exact thing I'm known for in real life too. Marishka/Rabbit is the next biggest role, but she only speaks in the last few scenes, like in the play.
A lot of the . . . the drama is played through dialogue and it carries a real sense of vitality and realism about it, it's very hard to write realistic dialogue and yet you do it incredibly well.
An excellently executed idea.
*bows*
And Thufir said this of the same ship:

Additionally, having just read through the past couple of pages of ships today, I must say that this is one of the best ships we've had in these seven threads

No, I'm not saying Vespe isn't deserving of this award. Infact, had Raist not been nominated, Vespe would have my vote hands down.
However, I do believe Raistlin is more deserving, and not because he's one of my bestest friends ever and my pedo-love (:smalltongue:).
Vespe is fantastic at being funny, perhaps the best there is out there. But Raist is great at being funny and at making people cry and evoking deep, touching emotions that aren't just positive. He's a bard who can tell a story well, beyond making his audience laugh.
Furthermore, he's a great musician (such a beast on the guitar =P) and fairly decent poet, just touching into musical composition.
The man lives his life as a bard. We all know he's a snooty-face about his music. He could discuss the pants out of anything literature.
Vespe is great. He really is.
But Raistlin is my choice for Bard.

Edit: Here's (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=6052476&postcount=674) the ship the quotes are from. Its one of his many well written pieces.

As for storytelling, those are some fine stories. I see they involve a few characters associated within one grouping in the town.

And part of the bard's work is customizing stories to the people around them. I do this in all the threads I frequent. From Friendly Banter to Structured Games.
Not only do I do this with a variety of songs.

But with every game I narrate
Llama, Llama, Duck (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=60779)
Llama, Llama, Duck II (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=108332)
Mafia VII: Revenge of the Blackhawks (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=80219)
TITANS! (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4342860#post4342860)
T2: Judgement Day (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=90494)
Ye Olde West (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38839)
Ye Olde West II: The GOLD Rush (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54385)
Ye Olde West III: Cowboy Bebop Edition (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86888)

And certainly those who have been around a long time recall the antics of Graklok http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g284/supagoof/Oots%20for%20Goof/GrakLlama.png, Beymar http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g284/supagoof/Oots%20for%20Goof/halflingknife.gif and Emiralk http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g284/supagoof/Oots%20for%20Goof/halflingwhisk.gif, and Tink http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i278/wolfshonor/gifs/tink2a.gif during the early days of town. Let alone the escapades of the legion....

Monk and Psion are in.

I'm not sure the Ranger is iconic enough to merit a category, but it is quite different from, say, the Druid, the Rogue, or the Fighter.

Assassins are a subtype of rogues, IMO.

The difference between sorcerers and wizards is purely a D&D thing, so I don't think the sorcerer makes for a good RPG archetype.

Commoners might return as part of a 'social class' competition, with Peasants, Artisans, Merchants, and Nobles.

I've been considering including the Warlock. It's quite new as a class, but the archetype of pacts with dark powers is very old.

I believe the catagories I put up where as such (to cut down on insane amounts of such are)

Bishounen Main/Side Male (To include people like Zidane, Cloud, god forbid Tidus, Zack Fair, Vincent *cough*, Reno, and Squall.)
Story Important Love Interest (Tifa, Aeris (I refuse to call her Aerith), Yuffie (you can do the date ride thing with her so it counts!) , Garnet, Yuna, and Ashe, off the top of my head)
Bad ass side character (Auron, Steiner, Shadow, Shadow's dog (:smalltongue:), and a few others)
and lastly.
Insane Main Villian (Sephiroth, Kefka, Seymour (ew), Garland, Jenova, you know them, and may hate/ fan girl/boy over them.)

So as the keep broadness while encompassing FF as a whole rather then just representing a single game, or stretch of 3 games.
All listed examples are merely examples, and as it's written people may run for them without any large dedication to FF. >.>

But yeah, on a more related note, this would even be a entirely different contest with the revamps I just put up, so even the complaint of having "Too few contestants" has been dashed with them, as it allows anyone with any relation to any game (Greiver, Ayu Vince, Shades of Gray, and a few others I'm too lazy to find come off the top of my head as contestants) to run rather then direct character relations.
