Assuming that you're a Wizard 3/Master Specialist (Abjurer) 10 so that you can cast Personal range/Emanations centered around you Abjuration spells as Touch range spells 3 times/day, can you also add in a Metamagic rod of Reach to be able turn that into a range touch spell? I'm trying to find a way to avoid taking Archmage so I might be able to fit both MS and Iot7v into one build and be able to cast AMF on enemies.

If the spell has a range of Touch, Reach Spell is legal. It doesn't matter why the spell has a range of Touch.

You're not thinking ambitiously enough. AMF is nothing. Wu Jen + Spellguard of Silverymoon + Archmage + Metamagic Rod of Chain Spell. Now combine all that with Transcend Mortality. Swift action, cast Transcend Mortality on up to 21 enemies within 30'. Standard action, dismiss it. All 21 die, no save, no SR.

Utterly ridiculous, and most definitely against the intent of the ability that changes Transcend Mortality to touch range, but legal.

Just, you know, 21 touch attacks and two rounds of actions. One of which has a bunch of short-term unkillable people wanting you dead...

With Reach, those Touch attacks become Close, and thus subject to Chain, and can therefore be cast on a number of enemies equal to CL. If your DM reads it that way, which many don't for this very reason.

No, just one round. Transcend Mortality's normal casting time is an immediate action. Cast it as a swift action and dismiss as a standard in the same round. Nobody gets to act while actually under the spell's effect.

Ah. Yeah, that is totally cheesed out. Would definitely call for a visit from the falling cow brigade if it actually saw use.

The reason I ask is because with Wizards, the order matters. I'm not sure I can do if I wanted to apply Reach spell normally to AMF, since when I *prepare* it it is an emanation centerd on you. The fact that I can cast it *as* a touch spell might be irrelevant for what metamagics I can use on the spell. At least rods get around that by checkin the spell's specs at casting time.

Of course, doing this means that I can't also use Chain metamagic on it, since I can't use two rods at once.

On another note, I wonder if one can combine Wu Jen with Jade Phoenix mage...

You couldn't prepare it as a Reach spell, in that case, but metamagic rods only care about how you cast a spell, not how you prepare it.

Alternatively you could get that feat (the name and location of which eludes me) that lets you cast certain spells spontaneously like a cleric casts cure spells. Then you can just spend a full round modifying it with Reach on the fly.
